If you're like me, you don't want to waste your time idling around, doing nothing especially when you know that you have a lot of tasks that need to be done. Busy people like us are after output. We want to be productive. We cannot afford to let days pass without crossing out items on our to-do list.
I have learned this to be valuable because I know how it feels to cram for output. It is exhausting and humiliating if, at the end of the day, you can't deliver what is expected of you. So as much as possible, I try to be as productive as I can be. I am not perfect. I even have blunders from time to time, but I'm learning.
I have mentioned several tips and hacks on productivity in my previous posts. Let me add a few more to my growing list.
Get up early
Suppose you have to report to work at 9 am, then try to get up early so you'll have enough time to spend doing personal tasks before you leave your home. Habitual late risers fail to eat their breakfast, skips a few minutes of exercise, and are always in a hurry because they have to beat the clock. But when you wake up early, you'll arrive at the office early enough. It will be much easier for you to focus on work, and you'll be able to do more.
Turn on airplane mode
Airplane mode isn't just for airplanes. If you don't want to be distracted by phone calls and text messages, you may turn on your mobile phone's airplane mode so you can focus on your task. Doing so will enable you to tune out all the noise so you can do more. It is not just during office-related tasks. When you're on a date or enjoying dinner with your family, turning on your device's airplane mode gives you focused time to foster your relationships.
Create an energizing playlist
An energizing playlist isn't only for the gym, or when you are jogging.
When you are up to a project and you need to focus and get things done quickly, you may create a playlist of some of your favorite music to set up your mood. Find some music to uplift your spirit and give you energy whether you're cleaning up your room, overhauling your files, packing for a trip, or even washing the dishes. If you're not into music, then a podcast can be a good alternative. I listen to a podcast whenever I wash the dishes. It's both entertaining and educating on my part.
Remember that NO isn't always a bad word.
Some people have a hard time saying NO when people ask them for favors. But remember that one key to being productive is knowing your limits and giving yourself adequate time to finish your priorities without getting bothered by unimportant tasks. Learn to say NO. You can always do it politely. When you're up for a big project and some friends try to invite you over to hang out, it's not a bad idea to say NO.
Take one small steps
Take that small step towards a long-term goal each day. For example, if your goal is to learn to play the guitar, learn a few chords a day. Practice strumming, plucking, even for a few minutes a day. If you want to be a better writer, write for a few minutes daily, and make it regular. Doing something small each day even for just a few minutes will get you closer to your goal. It takes consistency to master a skill. Your small steps will bring you great distances.

I find these suggestions pretty helpful. I am an early riser but still fail to eat breakfast at home, well that's just because I'm lazy to prepare food and prefer store bought food instead. :)
