Our First Adventure to Antique- Malumpati Cold Spring
March 20
Antique is one of the four provinces on the island of Panay in Western Visayas, Philippines. The road distance from our city to Antique is at least 200 Kilometers. That would take at least three hours of travel by car.
For the very first time in my entire life, I have set foot in that province, and
I never expected how beautiful the place is.
Greetings wonderful readers. Yes, I and my family with my wife's extended family went to Antique last Friday. It's the first that I have been to that place. It took us about four hours to reach our first destination, the Malumpati Cold Spring Resort. And that's what I will share with you in this photoblog.
The Four Hour Trip.
I woke up around four in the morning as usual. The agreement was to take off at six in the morning. However, we were able to leave just a few minutes before seven as I had expected.
We were a convoy of three vehicles. Two AUVs and a sedan. We were in one of the AUVs. The vehicle is not in its top condition. Along the way, the engine almost overheated. We had to stop twice to let the engine cool down. Our driver, who is also a mechanic said, it needs some coolant.
On the second stop, we were near a fruit stand with lots of watermelons. We bought a big one and a small one with yellow 'flesh' (or whatever you call that sweet and juicy edible part).
The weather was hot, long, and exhausting.

Finally, we arrived at our first destination around 11 in the morning. We were all exhausted and hungry.
When we got inside the resort, it was crowded. Yeah, no more fear of the covid-19 virus. But the place I awesome. There are rooms for rent along the way for those who want to stay overnight. Then there are cottages for those who are only staying during the day. The whole place was built around a small portion of a river where the fresh cold spring water flows. A small dam was built to control the depth of the water. On average, the water is just about five feet deep. But there is a diving area that goes as deep as 50 feet. That's what they said, anyway. The swimming area was modified. The river banks were walled and the floor was covered with smooth stones. The stones feel fixed. They are probably cemented on the river floor. At least the stones are more natural than ceramic tiles.

There are several activities you can do aside from swimming. You can join a group for river tubing - where you will ride the rapids on a rubber tube. Take a dive from their diving platforms, or go hiking along the river.
The diving area. The two men may be standing on shallow area, but beneath the boards is 50 ft deep.
We only did the swimming in the river. But when I took my fist deep in the cold water... I said it's worth the long and exhausting trip. Here are some of our photos.
Exhausted and famished, we had to eat our lunch first after the long trip

My first underwater shot using my phone (with waterproof cover, of course)
I just can't help it. I just got to have an underwater selfie
And here are a couple of videos
In Closing.
We left the resort around three in the afternoon. Our adventure is not over yet. This was just the beginning.
Next stop, Mararison Island, Antique.
Live an abundant life.
