The work environment is one of the fundamental elements for the smooth running of an organization. It is thought that this is reduced to good relations between workers, and between workers and managers, but the truth is that its definition and impact go much further. There is a good working environment not only when the level of conflict is low, but also when the working conditions generate a sense of belonging, a desire to keep the job, optimism and feelings of satisfaction. In fact, when there is a good working environment, everyone wins. The workers because they feel more identified and satisfied with their activity and the organization because it is more productive and stable over time.
There are many scales to measure the work climate. Almost all of them take into account the presence of some factors that reveal the positive or negative aspects of the work environment. The first point would be support, since it is related to the attitude of managers. It is present when the managers perform concrete actions to collaborate in what the workers require. It also implies a motivating communication, which encourages to carry out the activities and generates security and confidence in the team. Another element is clarity, because when the worker understands well what to do, what is expected of him and how to do it. Likewise, when he understands the organization's policies, knows its regulations and is aware of the limits of his work, as well as his possibilities.
On the other hand, a negative factor is pressure, i.e., the less pressure there is, the better the work environment. Pressure is understood as the feeling of urgency with regard to the activities to be performed. Pressure is normal in any job, but it should not be a daily or frequent occurrence, but temporary, not permanent. In addition, control refers to the degree to which rules and pressures must be used for the performance of daily activities. An organization has a better work climate when there is no greater need to resort to some form of coercion to get tasks accomplished. Work is necessary for our survival. But if the work environment at our work is not adequate, there is a negative influence on our lives, on those of our colleagues and for the company.
We must take into account that although a good work environment is not tangible, it does materialize in many areas of the organization. Those who are happy and satisfied with their work are more productive. Likewise, they are more stable, healthy and active. This helps them acquire prestige and appreciation among their workers, who are ultimately their first customers. This, both in the short and long term, translates into better processes and more notable results. In the work context, relationships are an important part of the development and progress of any company. As is often the case in other areas of life, relationships can become strained at work. This situation can affect job performance and the employee's sense of well-being and satisfaction.
Ultimately, this is about the atmosphere that is generated in a work environment. For this, personnel policies and evaluation techniques are taken into account. Now, it consists of being aware of the feelings, perceptions, thoughts, emotions and behaviors that workers have about the environment at work. The key, then, is to know how the work environment is. The workplace should reflect harmony and should be appropriate for the job being performed. If the tools are not adequate, and the personnel feel uncomfortable, there will be greater dissatisfaction. And the greater the dissatisfaction, the lower the productivity. Therefore, it is important to design a good working space. The relationships that the person has with his colleagues and bosses make him feel, think and behave in a certain way, if they are assertive and adequate it will be better for the company.
