Think big and act big
Earlier this morning, we were discussing whales and small investors on SmartBCH, one conversation led to the other and victor mentioned something which baffled everyone. I find it hard to believe at first until he showed picture evidence. At that point, I realized, “What we see might not be what it is”. Especially in the virtual world, the way you present yourself is what matters most, it will determine the value people place on you.
Present yourself as a nobody and people will take everything you say or do with a pinch of salt. But when you present yourself big, people start to believe in you and in the gifts that you possess?. The world is full of rules and standards of how people should live. These standards are just an illusion created by the people who want something from you. They want you to grow up, get a job and live as a slave so they can have money and power.
First, you have to believe in yourself. Think big. Be determined. Be confident. Be true to yourself. Comprehend that people will accord you respect if you present yourself in such a way that they can respect you. Now, where is the best place to do this? I would say it is at the outset of your professional life. Do not imagine that you will be the same all through your professional life and be respected at all stages. You may meet with success in the early stages, but there is not much room for advancement beyond a certain point. Further progress will be slow. You will tend to go down instead of up and up, as there is not much room left for promotion. Not a lot of people will be interested, as you are too well-known. In other words, some things are not going to change much and will not excite people as they knew you before.
Do you ever hear someone say “I wish I could do such and such”? It sounds like a throwaway phrase at first. But what if that person wasn’t saying it out of a feeling of defeat or helplessness, but was saying it because they knew how to make their dreams come true? The fact is that many people are living their dream lives, but not all of them are sharing with the world how they are doing it. Some people dream of being able to write poetry and express themselves on paper in a way that makes them feel more alive and connected to their truth. These same people may struggle getting started, as they don’t have a clear and tangible plan on how to make their dream come true.
Even Kids now say this - "If you want to be respected, you must respect yourself". If you put effort into building a strong persona and put effort into your vision, people will take to you and accord you respect. There's no magic formula to achieve this - it's a combination of your physical presence, the clothes you wear, the shoes you wear, and the words you say. I recently read a story where they interviewed a woman who made over 3 million Naira in a year by selling a handmade product that she made on her own. The interview is inspiring and tells a lot about her personal experience with entrepreneurship and why she started creating the product in the first place. There's nothing worse than having the best idea in the world and thinking, "I wish I'd thought of that earlier." But there's nothing worse than not having the best idea in the world and thinking, "I wish I had thought of that."
It's easy to worry about how others will react to us, but once again, it comes down to thinking of yourself. Think on a scale that's bigger than you ever have before. Picture what you want to happen, and then think about how you can make that happen. If you're planning out how to get from point A to point B and you focus on point C instead, you'll end up at point C. Thinking big isn't always as simple as it sounds, but with time and a little thought, it can become second nature’
Let me end it on this note, I once wrote this in an article “Even if you’re the size of a mosquito, walk and act like an Elephant”. People might tag it "Pride " , but it's "Class ".
