The Comment League - Spurring Interaction

Let's bring back more users' interaction

I have been thinking of ways to stimulate more interaction from users and the best way is for read.cash dev to add benefits for comments. Imagine the bot tipping good and relevant comments - there will be more interaction in the comments right? But it may also come with a negative effect - spam commenting. While we wait this unlikely move, I do like to start a new initiative which I will call Comment League for now. You can always suggest a better name. It is not a contest.

This is an introductory post, where I will share my idea and plans then you can give suggestions on how to make it better and effective.

Why the Comment League?

I wish to see more interaction in the comment section of posts. There is no better way to stimulate more engagement from users than to give incentive. Hopefully, it will motivate users to comment more than they already do and to stimulate those that don't comment at all to start doing so.

The main idea behindย Comment League is to encourage as many users as possible to become more engaging and start interacting with other users. We all need to help in building some strong and interactive community.

How it works?

The plan is to award points for comments and have a leaderboard with weekly, monthly and annual rewards to the top or all commenters based on the total points accumulated.

Personally, I will offer tips to the best comment on each article I publish. The best comment will be decided after 48 hours from the time the article was published. There will be lots of tips for creative and relevant comments to adds value to my articles.

Generally, there will be a leaderboard with list of commenters and points earned. For many to benefit, I will need the help of users. I can only keep tracks of comments on my articles. So, I expect other users who are interested to keep track of the comments on their articles and give me daily or weekly report of the users and the number of relevant comments received - at most one comment per article. From the reports submitted by individual user, I will update the points on the leaderboard.

Prize Pool

The reward will be decided if this is well received by other users. Also their contribution will determine the weekly or monthly payout.

We can all donate to the initiative. I will kick start by donating $10 monthly to the initiative.

Going Telegram

I have created a cozy place on telegram where we can chat and exchange ideas on how to make this initiative work. You always send your thought in the comment and we can discuss it on the telegram group.

Click here to join us on Telegram.

This post is just a rough draft of the idea. I will improve on and update it. Your suggestions can be helpful. It will be begin on November 1, 2020. But for now let's suggest on ways to improve on all I have shared herein to make the initiative effective.

I hope to hear from you all.

Comments

Is a good initiave, yet we do not need any more comments (really ๐Ÿ˜…), activity bonus is taking care of that for us, what we really need is meaningful comments. Read cash suffered from a lot of spam in early stages for giving our points to comments (it was necessary to implement a minimum length and to disallow duplicated comments, and it wasn't enough). Needless to say you have a serious issue here: to be reviewing all comments from hundreds of articles, and score them, and keep a leaderboard is a huge work needing a big team (that I'm guessing won't be volunteering), unless of course you have the ability to automate all that trough a robot โ€“but read cash don't support external robots ๐Ÿ™ƒ. Let me know what's your solution to this.

Also, do you expect to evaluate comments of any community, or only your own community?

Not everyone is eligible for the activity bonus. A lot of users that I know for their reputation of reading and leaving g useful comments on articles were not eligible. It makes me wonder how they choose eligible users.

About reviewing comments from hundreds of articles. My plan is to work with other users, who will give weekly list of users who left useful comments on their numerous articles for the week. I will add such users to the the list and award points. The more me tions each user gets, the more. points they earn.

What if other users don't respond by submitting list of commenters? I will use just mine. I will award points to users that comment on my articles and at the end of the month, I will convert the points to BCH and award the amount as tip to the users

Gotcha, no, no one knows how are they chosen (probably just by continued activity) but most people we know here from months ago (formerly mentioned as 'power users') already got the bonus. Monolith is on day twelve since the bonus just showed up (after two or three days of been actively posting and answering comments), so it might be as simple as that, comment and post for a few days in a row.

Hope those comments like "great article", "sub back", or anything that isn't connected to the article will be banned from the platform. Maybe on first offense a 24 hours ban, 2nd offense a week or 2 and lastly 3rd offense, won't be able to log in forever. As the saying goes "there is an endless possibilities". But let the developer decide. Let's just continue what we know is right. Btw, thanks for coming up of an idea like this.

You are welcome. While we hope on the dev to take necessary measures, we have our part to play. We all have a collective role to help the platform grow. We can always down vote or flag such comments.

I hope for your continuous suggestion on how to make this initiative successful

Yes. I always downvotes comment that i think is a spam. One thing that im bothered about is the A.I who gives tip. He set the rules but he is the one violating the rules he has set. I think he needs an update.

That will be up to read.cash dev. But for now, let's work on moving this initiative forward

Can i post your article link on all my future articles for 3 consecutive days. Wanting to help spread the words. Btw, i will support this idea. Maybe by identifying users who are spam commenting.

Sure you can promote the initiative for as long as you want and also link the comment league community https://read.cash/c/the-league-8a2a

Join the telegram group if you can.

great initiative Macronald! hopefully we can see some more interaction across the entire community.

i'm editing my original comment because i have a concern.

i have come across some articles that contain information that is not correct, and if you are going to promote the commenter and potentially the author by acknowledging them, the community as a whole may be unintentionally distributing and promoting incorrect information.

this becomes a serious issue for topics such as medical or health advice. the problem is how we would know if the article is correct or not. i fully understand this project is aimed at promoting comments, but do we as a community also have a responsibility to vet articles from which the comments come from?

would the conversations generated by these inaccurate articles be harmful to society as a whole?

With or without this information such contents will be generated we have no control of that.

Vetting every article and every article will be a huge one. Imagine having 50 or more participating authors submitting comments from 5-7 articles weekly. That's huge for anyone to vet.

Perhaps we should rule out health related articles? We should create a vetting team?

I have a plan to check every user on the leaderboard. They ensure their activity is genuine. Though the reward is not much, there is possibility of some authors creating multiple accounts to generate comments. It's also possible authors will give fake figures.

Perhaps for a user to be added as a participant, he must be mentioned by a certain number of authors, not just by one or two authors.

You have raised good concerns, the question now is how do we curb that?

i think if this initiative is to move forward, there is a need for several vetting teams to protect the community. teams should also include more than one individual who is knowledgeable about the subject.

there should also be a balance between correcting minor details, and flagging dangerously wrong information (scams, etc.)

These are the obvious topics/comments that would require careful review:

  • health/medical advice
  • money/investment/crypto advice
  • legal advice

i'm sure there are more, but that's all i can think of at the moment.

i don't know how we would vet a medical/health related topics team. it may be easier to simply exclude those.

to prevent conflicts of interest, individuals should volunteer to be part of a vetting team (no compensation). furthermore, members of vetting teams should be ineligible for the Comment League awards. It would just look bad if anyone from the vetting team won awards.

i would consider signing up to be on one of the vetting teams, but i would need assistance.

this project sounds like more and more work, and it would require a lot of collaboration. i think we need to scale it down to authors submitting one entry weekly or monthly. i can't imagine the volume of information coming in to be managed and sorted...you would need a ton of help.

Thanks for the tip!

It is a good habit to appreciate each other's work in a good person. This is a very nice movement. Which is why people will appreciate each other's work better. Everybody will be able to benefit more from this by doing better work. Saying good things to many people, we ourselves take advantage. Thanks

This is a worthy cause. Honestly I have missed interactions in the comment section of my post and that's why I am exceptional grateful to @Ozzyy and @Hanzell for always reading my articles and leaving comments.

It now looks like we have become a trio. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I like that

Exactly. We have become a trio, and we all motivate each other to put in max. effort. It's very helpful really, and I may have to read the mechanics of this to understand how it works.

Thank you for the positive feedback. I am still working on the mechanics. Any suggestion will be appreciated. It could be something you want to be incorporated or a way to make it effective.

I can see that it's already been mentioned, but yes, we do need a team to vet the entries and the articles involved, to ensure we don't fall into the same issues the read.cash admin had while trying to allocate points for comments and all that.

Very interesting idea. ๐Ÿ‘

Just to make sure I understand it correctly: Every participating author tells you which user wrote the best comment to each of his or her articles and the commentator gets rewarded one point for the league, right? (Or do you scale the points according to the monthly donations by the author?)

And authors tell you that information via the Telegram group, right?

By the way, the links to the Telegram group don't work.

$ 0.02

Yes, the participating author gives me the list of users and such users if not already on the leaders board will be added and award point for commenting on the article. Not just the best comment on an article, but as many users that leave relevant comment on the same article.

The authors can give the report in the comment section of the weekly update post or via the telegram group.

I have update the link to the group. It's working now. Thanks for pointing that out.
