You're Hired! I just finished watching a video online of a test that was conducted where a good-looking man posed as an interviewee for a job. In the video, he played the part of a good-looking young man and also as a not-so-good-looking young man. The interview was done by 3 different female interviewers, the young man who was better looking did not have as many skills/experience as the less good looking young man. According to the test, the women all wanted to hire a good-looking young man. Question: Have you ever been the interviewer and hired someone based on their looks? Are looks important when considering someone to hire? Have you ever felt that you were not hired because of how you look? Have you ever been hired thinking it was because you were good-looking? I have been in the position several times where I was responsible for hiring people and can honestly say, I have never hired anyone or not hired them due to how they look. I do personally feel one should be hired based on their skills and qualifications. **Let me ask another question:** If the job is something like a waitress, a hostess at a fine restaurant, or maybe a news anchor or something do you think looks should play the biggest part or just a minor part of the decision to hire? How often do you think looks are chosen over qualifications?
I think looks can't be a factor if it isn't a key part of your job. For some reason, it is advantageous to businesses to have good-looking employees, but not necessary. Some companies, especially in the Philippines hire people who are considered good-looking because they think appearance has a huge factor when it comes to sales. **If I was an employer, I still prefer a good employee over good looks. I think that people shouldn't be hired based on looks, but hired based on their skill and ability to get the job done.**
Your appearance should matter a little when your abilities and capacities match the work prerequisites. Yet shockingly, that isn't generally the situation with regards to hiring. Aside from your experience and abilities, how you appear to the recruiting administrators is significant in deciding your initial feeling. Indeed, it very well might be human instinct to pass judgment on individuals by their looks. And indeed, applicants who are truly appealing are frequently seen as more agreeable and effective than those who are genuinely less alluring. However, the hiring personnel needs to go past those discernments and generalizations, and not a race to judgment when they're meeting for a job and settling on basic recruiting choices. Your views?
Good evening, dear friends. The weekend is just about to end and I can't believe it's happening lol. How does it get here so fast? Seriously? The only good thing about meeting the New week is that I can wear my "homeless look" and no one will ever know. I am not applying for a corporate job, so I'm good. Oh, I forgot! I also have to get up early tomorrow for a Virtual Parent's Orientation. It's my daughter's first day of online/modular class this school year. I prolly need to comb my hair at least. As much as it put food on the table, no job should be relegated. I bet you some waitresses earn higher than some professionals, so why won't I accept the job that would turn my life around?

For the first sets of Questions my answer will be "No" . I haven't and i cannot employ someone based on looks. However, if the second sets of questions are toss at me , my answer would be "Yes"... some position needs the look more than brain.

looks matter a little. It's a job not a showbiz career char. So although someone isn't that good looking but has the capability and qualifications then s/he should be hired. Ahahaha if I'm not that good looking (well, i am not)hahaha dadaanin ko na lang sa presentability

It's just so unfair that looks are more considered than skills. We also have that in here. Especially for women. Those who they called pretty, can get the high chance for the job. I don't like it. Pretty face doesn't assure us great mindset.

Unfortunately it is looks that matter now a days. But if employer needs work then he/she probably gonna choose skills over look.

I wish all employers would think like you, but some ignorant ones doesn't think that way I guess, especially knowing how some of my seniors are still struggling to find a job even though their achievements are really good.

'Twas the best line I ever heard back in 2019. It's not easy to pass the interview and get hired, that is why when I got in, I did my best up until now. Btw, good luck with your orientation tomorrow. Ours had finished last week. Tomorrow is our first day to have formal classes. I'm so excited to meet my pupils ☺

I liked reading this. I strongly believe that looks should matter less than your actual work ability and capacities when hiring a person. Most people unintentionally hire people based on their countenance because of their implicit beauty bias. That's another way to look at it too. Really interesting read

Based on my experience sis, I have worked in a casino and hotel company. Usually the front liners meaning the Front Desk, The VIP's even the Bell Man must be good looking same in the casino the dealers must all be pleasant and good looking. Looks comes first on this kinds of job followed by the wits. When it comes to the back office of course the wits comes first, your achievements, your past experiences followed by how you look. Because we don't want a beautiful very sexy and tall Finance Manager who doesn't know how to handle the Finances of a company. It really all depends on the company depending on the position and the work. When I became a Manager on a retail company at first I hire good looking ladies and men as our Sales Assistants but later on found that they are so maarte and make away with other fellow SA's also they resign right away. Parang feeling ba nila hindi dito nabelong ang beauty ko.... hahaha. So, then I changed my qualifications. Wits comes first before the face.
This so called worlds want good looking peoples and it's so unfair with those who spend their whole life for qualifications and skills but they do hustle finding a good job I served 2years of my life being a waiter and I can't forget once they called me I'll not be able to work 2days with them coz my age and height wasn't good but i worked their for 2years and slapped on their faces who see these things!
Yes back then when I was still in teaching line I do join my Ogas to interview new staff and some your mentioned point is what we consider in employing newbies
Not hiring a person even if it meets the qualifications and the skills required because it doesn't have a pleasing appearance or not good looking is kind of discrimination. Nakakalungkot isipin pero ito yung nangyayare sa ibang mga company.
When I was in-charged of hiring a team member, I usually hire them based on their skills, qualifications and how well they sell themselves.
It should always be character over personality but depende po sa job. Sadly yung HR sa Philippines masyadong "by the book" sila, kahit wala silang mahire di pa rin nila hinahire yung may mga potential.
School starts for the kid! Mom will put on learning coach's hat. Fun fights ahead hahahahha... I haven't tried being in the position of hiring someone. Thank God. must be a headache. Anyway, as a bystander, lols, I could say that so far they did good in hiring qualified candidates - skills and attitude.. charm is a plus, good looks is a plus plus plus. But I know of no one who got hired or not hired solely for their looks. Maybe in some other department or industry.. i wonder.. you're wearing glasses... ? ...maybe they did for some positions now that i think about it. I see real good looking people sometimes 😂 but i can say they got skills too. Haha

Sometimes some applicants are being biased when it comes to applying jobs especially in Big companies..It's not only a biased but they are being discriminated. because of their looks, on how they dress and other factors. Here in the Ph. A lot of caseslike this.
I am not yet in the corporate world but from what I heard from people that I know who is applying for a job, employers often hired their employees because of their looks. Mas pinipili nila yung may pleasing appearance kahit wala naman masyadong alam. Sana kapag nag apply ako soon di ibabase ng employer ko sa looks😅
Sana lahat ng manager ganyan ang standards when it comes to hiring an employee sis. Hindi naman kasi pageant ang pagtatrabaho kaya di dapat pagandahan o pagwapuhan.😁
It's been proven over and over again that hiring is skewed towards the favorable. Better looking, taller, certain races, etc,etc. It's a cliche but we do judge a book by its cover. But the person being hired based on any of the above may have a tough time surviving without the qualified skills. The good looks, being taller, etc can only get them so far. I used to work for a company that has very precise hiring processes. There are tests and the results carry the hiring weight. I believe this is the best hiring process. It takes away the human emotion and prejudice away from the decision process.
it depends on the job indeed sis..there are jobs which require them to look good...
Most that applied in our company are good looking and they are now resigned. I think having a pleasing personality is one of their basis as I observe, but they cannot handle the stress the job gives so they quit. In my company, on sales department, having a good look is a plus factor but unfortunately they cannot stay for long because of pressure.
I wouldn't hire a person base on the look but by what the person has in the brain and what he has to offer. Although there are some Job that requires good look,jobs like a receptionist or a waitress,hotel attendant so to attract customers. For me, If I am to hire someone amd the post need a good look person, i will so as to add more profit to the site.
