How do you view optimism
Reality is too hard and brutal for a lot of people to bear, when it keep getting harsher and harsher to the point where we feel like breaking, some of us develop coping mechanisms to help us deal with it better, even if that means drowning themselves in illusive thoughts. When things get difficult to bear, rather than bouncing back from the push to the wall, we hope that things will be alright instead of actually doing something about it, creating a false feeling of contentment or happiness because that's what we want to feel at the moment.
While having a good amount of optimism in our mindset is recommended, to survive harsh situations, blinding ourselves to the negative things we can curb while building a facade of optimism is not a good thing, and might even translate as stupid. As people usually say, I kind of disagree with the narrative that says "reality is what we make of it". Reality is stark naked. You see it when you want to and you unsee it when you don't want to, you can avoid reality all you want but unfortunately you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality. It always comes to stare you right in they face before you know that's happening. Truth cannot be denied, it can only be delayed, the hidden that needs to be revealed will always find a way of exposing itself, for the benefit of those to whom it presents itself, if at all they are men of understanding.
We all have tough times in our lives, life is not all bed of roses. Instead of blinding ourselves to the reality of our lives to avoid facing pain, which is an act of cowardice, we should strive instead to face the pain for there's a cure we know nothing of in every pain. Tackle the situation head-on. Do your best and I mean your real best before leaving the rest to God or chance while hoping for am overall rewarding outcome. That's how to be optimistic. That's what optimism and real hope is about. Doing your best and leaving the rest. Even if you fail, you already know that it might come but it won't hurt you as much as it hurts the person who's blinded himself from reality. If we take a good look, reality isn't all that bad, but a necessity so that we may reflect.

Yes i agree with all your words, we should face problems, issues with bravery as failures and mistakes teach us the best lessons that we are unable to learn from any other source.
