Forget Me Not

*Glasses clink*

"To awkward encounters and to new beginnings. To us" George says as he chugged down the wine from his glass. Sitting right across the table to him was Melissa who did the same. They smiled and George placed his right hand on the table reaching towards the middle. Melissa placed her left hand and reached for George's hand and they held hands on top of the table.

"I really love being with you." Melissa said.

"I really do love you too." George replied.

Her cheeks turned red and she felt really hot all of a sudden. It may have been because it was the first time George said the magic words so she smiled at him with the purest intent. After a while, the hot sensation did not dissipate and she began to feel dizzy.

"Are you alright Mel?" George asked as he was staring at her and he started to worry.

"I don't know... I..." and with a soft thud, she collapsed hitting her head on the table and George stood up hurriedly to pick her up.

"Someone call an ambulance!!!" George's scream rang throughout the restaurant they were dining in. And people tried to help the couple.

After a few minutes, the wailing siren of the ambulance can be heard from the outside. The path was cleared and they were able to pick up Melissa and they were on their way to the hospital. George rode with them.

At the hospital, George was seated in the waiting room while he was holding a cup of coffee from the vending machine that already turned cold. He was anxiously waiting for any news about his girlfriend. She was still undergoing some tests.

After a few more while of anxiously waiting, he was called upon by a nurse and was ushered into a room where Melissa lies unconscious. He sat down beside her and held her hand. He planted little kisses on her hand while looking at her as he wore a worried look on his face.

The doctor came in with a clipboard in his hand. George acknowledged him and told him that he was the boyfriend.

The doctor explained that some additional tests must be done to really pinpoint what's wrong with Melissa. Her hand twitched and her eyelids fluttered. She was slowly coming to.

The bright white light of the room seeped through the slits of her eyes and she was blinded for a moment causing her to blink as slowly as she could and as many times as she could.

She opened up her eyes and slowly moved them around to try and have a better grasp of her surrounding.

The doctor stepped in and calmly explained what had happened, he told her that she's in the hospital because she collapsed.

"I collapsed?" she was confused and asked.

"Yes, you are alright but we need to conduct more tests just to be sure." the doctor added.

"Thank you," she replied as she turned towards George. He was quietly looking at her while holding her hand. His face screams of relief when he saw her woke up.

"Who are you? Where is John?" she asked and started to panic. She pulled her hand away from George, and he was surprised.

"I am George, your boyfriend."

"What? No. No. John! John!" Melissa went into hysteria and her vitals became unstable forcing the doctor to step in again to calm her down. George was ushered out of the room.

He was left outside as he was pacing back and forth. After some moments of waiting in agony, the doctor went out and came to George.

"Is she alright Doc? What happened to her?"

"She's stable for now but who's John?" he inquired.

George fell silent for a moment and then softly answered, "her husband."

Apparently, Melissa and her husband were having marital problems for months and she was seeing George for just a few weeks. Although they were just dating for a short time, the time they both spent together was priceless and were meaningful. They found peace in each other's arms and anyone could describe both of them as "in love".

Meanwhile, John was in his office drowning in his works without any idea of what's going on with his wife.

What would happen to Melissa and George? Will she be able to remember him when she wakes up? What would happen to John? What would happen when he knew what was going on with his wife?
