It is a fungus that I come across in the forest every summer. It always fascinates with its sophisticated shape and an equally sophisticated smell, which is unbearable for humans, because it resembles the stench of decaying carcass. But to lower-level creatures, it is like an expensive perfume.
The phallic shape, which is unambiguously associated by women and men (mainly because of the smell) with the male member, is easy to locate in the beech forest, due to its size and smell. Many men, seeing such a miracle in the forest, fall into complexes.
The whole thing hatches from an egg, also known as a "devil's egg", and its diameter can reach up to 5 cm. An egg like this egg is usually ovoid or spherical in shape. In this form it is odorless and edible. They can be eaten raw, fried or pickled.
A mature fruiting body at the very tip or cap is covered with gray mucus, with a very unpleasant smell that attracts various insects. This mucus contains spores of the fungus, and the insects that sit on it are a natural transport for these spores.
The leg can be very long (for men with complexes, I suggest skipping this paragraph) and it can reach over 25 cm. It has a cylindrical shape and is spongy and delicate. The flesh is tender, but only edible when the fungus is egg-shaped. Of course, supporters of Swedish pickled herring will eat even the ripe fruiting bodies of this mushroom without stuttering.

Most tourists during their trips to Egypt focus on visiting the Giza pyramids. Of course, this is an undeniable attraction of Egypt, but it is also worth taking a look at the attractions located in Luxor, and more in its vicinity.
One of the places worth visiting are the ruins of the complex dedicated to the Theban gods, i.e. Karnak, 2.5 km away from Luxor, which in 1979 was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Karnak, lying on the east coast of the Nile, treated as a suburb of Luxor, was part of Thebes, the former legendary capital of Egypt. The huge remains of the Temple of Montu, which testify to the former power of Egypt from afar, are worthy of a closer look at them.

Karnak is a complex of temples dedicated to various deities. One of them is the God of war - Montu. On the other hand, the largest of the temples is dedicated to Aman-Re, God of wind, fertility and fertility. The third temple is the sanctuary of Goddess Mut, wife of Amun. All temples occupy an area of over 100 hectares and are connected by process avenues.

Hohenzollern Castle is a great misfortune, but it has survived to this day
The beautiful Hohenzollern Castle, a fortress in Baden-Württemberg, is located 50 km from Stuttgart. This is the legacy of the medieval Hohenzollern dynasty.
The first records of this medieval stronghold were found in documents from 1267, but it is suspected that it was built in the 11th century. It is located in a beautiful picturesque area on a mountain with a height of 855 meters. The view from this hill is probably one of its greatest assets.
In 1423 the fortress was conquered by the imperial troops and completely destroyed, so a new castle was built in 1461, but the present castle structure that exists today was built between 1850 and 1867 by the famous architect Frederick August Shtyuler.
The castle is built in a neo-gothic style and shows strong influences of German romanticism. Multiple reconstructions and destruction are not the only misfortunes that hit the facility. From a historical point of view, it was very recently, because on September 3, 1978, the castle was seriously damaged by an earthquake and was renovated until the mid-1990s, it was closed to visitors.
When I go out to the forest in search of mushrooms, I always find something interesting - Cordulegaster boltonni
The situation when you enter the forest and nature suddenly surprises you appears very often, most often when you do not have photographic equipment with you, but if you have, you are not prepared for an interesting situation. This time it was different.
The Polish name of this insect is the forest greenhouse, and although the species is rare, it appears in this temperature period, i.e. at the turn of spring and summer, specifically from mid-May to the end of August.
It appears in regions with clean, fast-flowing submontane forest streams, and in my case it appears in the Kraków-Częstochowa Jura, whose climate is very regional and there are species of plants and animals seen only in the mountains. The insect loves small, narrow mid-forest and mid-meadow rivers in the lowlands.
In mature Cordulegasters boltonni eyes have a beautiful green color, glossy and mesmerizing at the same time. They meet at one point in the center of the head.
The occipital triangle is yellow and the torso is black yellow. The abdomen, on the other hand, is black with even yellow spots in the center of the tergites and much smaller ones at the rear edges of the tergites.
The body length of this insect reaches up to 90 mm in the case of females, and the wingspan is also impressive, often over 100 mm.
White-backed woodpecker, a beauty among woodpeckers
This woodpecker is much larger and more massive than other birds of its species. It has beautiful plumage with a characteristic red cap, which is found only in the male. This woodpecker has a beautiful brindle and a contrasting white rump. The underside of the body is black, hatched with a pink background. The length of the body reaches up to 30 cm.
Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer places in Poland where the natural environment is favorable for this bird. It can be found mainly in reserves in the eastern part of Poland, for example in the Augustów and Białowieża Primeval Forests and in the Biebrza Valley, as well as in the Lublin region and in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains.
The species is becoming more and more difficult to spot, and this is closely related to the stand which must be old, aged with a lot of dead decaying trees. Unfortunately, this has become an increasingly difficult condition to meet in recent years.
According to statistical data, there are about 500 breeding pairs in Poland. It is a species under strict protection.
When it comes to food, there is no surprise here. Like most birds of this species, the diet consists mainly of insect larvae, it extracts caterpillars and small insects from a swollen tree.
Can forest mushrooms be eaten raw? - Weeping milk cap (Mleczaj smaczny)
Most mushrooms in their fresh form are difficult to digest and it is not recommended to eat them without heat treatment. But there are exceptions. Apart from mushrooms, they include, for example, Mleczaj Smaczny, also known regionally as fudge or red pine. It has a very specific taste, but it is a matter of individual feelings and it is worth trying.
It is a fungus very similar to red pine mushroom, from the same family, but unlike red pine mushroom, it releases white, not orange, milk after damage. It differs from the classic red hat with the color of the hat because it does not have the characteristic circles.
Its cap grows up to 15 cm in diameter and has a slightly tucked edge, in a young fruiting body it is arched, but becomes flat with age. The surface of the hat is smooth, velvety matte. The gills are thick and, when damaged, white milk appears on them.
The leg is thick, cylindrical and hollow. It is brighter than the cap and is predominantly orange-yellow in color.
The flesh is quite brittle, delicate, but at the same time hard and firm, and this is what makes it taste like this mushroom. It is slightly sweet and has an aromatic, unique fragrance.

In young mushrooms, the tubes are yellowish-olive, then orange, and finally brick red, blood red. When pressure is applied or the tubing is damaged, it turns brown.
The leg of young fruiting bodies is yellow, with a visible delicate mesh, red villi. In mature specimens, the color of the strainer is dominant. The young fruit body has a massive leg, becoming cylindrical over time. It is full inside and turns dark blue when damaged.
Occurrence. Most often it can be found in mountain areas, in spruce and fir forests. It often grows under beeches and oaks. It likes acidic soils, but it is also found on calcareous soils, e.g. in the vicinity of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. This is one of the first porcini mushrooms that can be found in the forest. It appears in May and grows until November.
Application. A very tasty edible mushroom after boiling or frying. Valued for its hardness, resembling meat in texture, which remains even after heat treatment. When raw, it is slightly poisonous and can cause stomach problems.

Another weekend walk resulted in three species of mushrooms. One of them is highly
poisonous, the other is edible even though it does not appear to be it, and the third is a species with medicinal properties.
Cazuelilla - Sarcosphaera coronaria beautiful but deadly poisonous
This unusual mushroom has two stages in its life. First, it is an underground fungus, most often taking a spherical form, and only later it rises to the surface, matures, and gradually breaks into triangular petals, thus giving the spores a chance to extend the species.
It can reach up to 20 cm in diameter. Initially, the interior of the mushroom is whitish, with time it is purple and smooth. The outer shell is mostly gray-white. The flesh is white and brittle. The mushroom in its raw state is highly, even deadly, poisonous.
It is a rare species, it can be found in forests mixed with a calcareous substrate, for this the region of the Kraków-Częstochowa Jurassic is an ideal environment for it. The first fruiting bodies appear already in early spring, and in June you can find quite a lot of this species.

The island of Korčula is one of the most beautiful and popular islands in Croatia in the Dalmatian region. It is situated next to the Pelješac Peninsula, from which you can get there by ferry. They are already here! King of mushrooms, or boletus. It is true that so far only Boletus erythropus, but also these are appreciated by mushroom gourmets. For me, it is one of the tastiest edible mushrooms. I especially love their texture, because despite the long-term heat treatment, they remain firm, hard and fleshy.
Although they appear almost regularly every year around the second half of May, when I see them, I am like a child, as if I have never seen them with my eyes. This beautiful, massive mushroom has a cap up to 20 cm in diameter. The color of the hat in most specimens is dark brown, brick-brown with an olive tinge. The surface of the hat is dull, dry.
In a young fruiting body, the cap has a spherical shape, with age the cap opens and becomes cushion-like, becoming almost flat in old age, even slightly curled.
Tubes, or hymenophore, are the hallmarks of this mushroom. There is a reason why it is called brick pores, but it only takes on this color when it is mature. In young fruiting bodies, the hymenophore tubes are yellowish-olive, then the color changes to orange, and when the fungus matures, they change color to brick red, the hymenophore changes color, darkens and becomes bluish during mechanical damage or pressure.

Homemade "Tom Yum" Soup with Chicken and Rice - Flavors of Asia - yum, yum, yum
I ate Tom Yum soup for the first time during my Asian travels at the airport in Kuala Lumpur. There is a so-called food garden, where you can taste the flavors of Asia. While traveling around Asia, I have eaten Tom Yum soup ten times, even in Africa I have tried it. It tasted different everywhere, but it was always good. The flavors that dominated these soups were ginger, coriander, hot pepper, sour tomato, lemongrass, coconut milk, soy sauce - these are the basis for a good soup. Depending on your preference, the soup was completed with shrimps, calamari or chicken meat.
Ingredients
0.2 kg of chicken breast, a few large mushrooms, two tomatoes, one onion, a few cloves of garlic, kaffir, lemon juice, lemongrass, Tom Yum paste, coconut paste, green coriander, ginger, turmeric, galangal, olive oil or oil vegetable, salt, pepper, hot ground paprika.
Preparation soup
Thoroughly wash the chicken breasts and cut into thick cubes, peel the onion and dice it into small cubes, chop the peeled garlic finely. Also peel the mushrooms and cut them into small pieces.
Scald the fresh tomatoes with boiling water, peel them and cut them into thick cubes.
Put chicken pieces on the oil heated in a frying pan and fry for a few minutes on all sides. Then add the diced onion and garlic and fry for a few minutes as well.
Finally, add the chopped tomatoes and mushrooms and fry briefly until they are firm.
We are preparing the Tom Yum stock. Pour 600 ml of water into a pot, bring to a boil and add Tom Yum paste.
Add the previously prepared meat with mushrooms and vegetables to the stock made from Tom Yum paste. Add kafir, a little ginger, hot pepper, possibly lemongrass, soy sauce, ground pepper and cook it for about 3 minutes. Tom Yum soup is ready.
Way of giving
The soup can be served with fresh white bread or rice. I prefer it with loose-cooked rice, because it introduces me to the atmosphere of Asian travels.

The entire ceremony begins on a tree, usually at sunrise. The first part of "tooting" is the so-called "flop", which is similar to the sound of two poles hitting each other. The second part is "trilling", the third is "corking" - the name is not accidental, because it sounds like taking a cork out of a bottle. And the last phase is "grinding", also the sound resembles human activities, eg rubbing a stone against metal or sharpening a scythe. These four sounds are intended to effectively lure a female to a male. Outside of the mating season, males live alone.
Largest Buddha and "Hell Garden" - Wat Muang Temple in Thailand - my journey through Asia
Great Buddha or Phra Buddha Maha Nawamin
The original Big Buddha was destroyed by the Burmese in the 18th century. The monumental statue was then located in Ayutthaya, the former Thai capital. They wanted to rebuild the temple in exactly the same location, unfortunately the exact place of the old temple was not known.
So it was decided to replicate the Big Buddha in agricultural regions remote from the former capital of Thailand. The works started in 1990 and 18 years later in 2008 the monument was officially put into use. Earlier, in 1982, the reconstruction of the Wat Muang temple with the Buddha was completed.

Virupaksha temple almost like Bagan in Myanmar - Hampi, Karnataka - my journey through Asia
Hampi, which means "champion" in English, is today just a tiny village situated in an amazing place dotted with boulders along the banks of the Tungabhadra River, but in the 14th century it was the great capital of the Vijayanagar empire. When you walk around this amazing place, feel the spirit of history and what could have happened. On the other hand, the place could be a film setting for the movie "Between us cavemen" - it is charming and difficult. Even monkeys have big problems here to move among boulders heated to unbearable temperatures.
The ruins of this magnificent city are spread over an area of 29 km2, and constitute the "largest open-air museum in the world," inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Today Hampi is full of hotels, guest houses and other lodging houses. There are many restaurants serving "European" food, but the proximity of the very popular Goa, which is flooded by tourists from all over the world, made the prices of literally everything sky high.
Like an ordinary pheasant, but still extraordinarily beautiful
This beautifully colored bird, similar in size to a domestic hen, is found practically all over Poland. It is a game bird and a breeding one at the same time. It is not an endemic species. Pheasants come from Asia, and were brought to Poland and Europe in the 16th century, and have inseparably inscribed in our landscape.

Wat Rong Suea Ten (Blue Temple) - a Temple or an Lunapark? - Thailand, my journey through Asia
"Suea Ten" or the Blue Temple, literally translated into Thai means "dancing tiger". It was probably due to the fact that in the past this area was inhabited by wild tigers. At the site of the present Blue Temple, there were ruins of a former temple that was abandoned over 100 years ago. The reconstruction of the temple began only in 2005 and took 11 years.
The Blue Temple is the smallest of the three known temples in the Chiang Rai area. But after the white temple it makes the biggest impression in the area, thanks to its colors. It was designed by the artist Buddha Kabkae, the artist's student, who in turn designed and creates the white temple.

This species of mushroom can indeed be called a traveler. His home is the island of Madagascar, but at the moment he can be found in many places around the world. In the first place, it went to Australia and New Zealand, thanks to the transports of wood on which it grows, because it is an arboreal species.
