Virupaksha temple almost like Bagan in Myanmar - Hampi, Karnataka - my journey through Asia Hampi, which means "champion" in English, is today just a tiny village situated in an amazing place dotted with boulders along the banks of the Tungabhadra River, but in the 14th century it was the great capital of the Vijayanagar empire. When you walk around this amazing place, feel the spirit of history and what could have happened. On the other hand, the place could be a film setting for the movie "Between us cavemen" - it is charming and difficult. Even monkeys have big problems here to move among boulders heated to unbearable temperatures. The ruins of this magnificent city are spread over an area of 29 km2, and constitute the "largest open-air museum in the world," inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Today Hampi is full of hotels, guest houses and other lodging houses. There are many restaurants serving "European" food, but the proximity of the very popular Goa, which is flooded by tourists from all over the world, made the prices of literally everything sky high.
