Hohenzollern Castle is a great misfortune, but it has survived to this day The beautiful Hohenzollern Castle, a fortress in Baden-Württemberg, is located 50 km from Stuttgart. This is the legacy of the medieval Hohenzollern dynasty. The first records of this medieval stronghold were found in documents from 1267, but it is suspected that it was built in the 11th century. It is located in a beautiful picturesque area on a mountain with a height of 855 meters. The view from this hill is probably one of its greatest assets. In 1423 the fortress was conquered by the imperial troops and completely destroyed, so a new castle was built in 1461, but the present castle structure that exists today was built between 1850 and 1867 by the famous architect Frederick August Shtyuler. The castle is built in a neo-gothic style and shows strong influences of German romanticism. Multiple reconstructions and destruction are not the only misfortunes that hit the facility. From a historical point of view, it was very recently, because on September 3, 1978, the castle was seriously damaged by an earthquake and was renovated until the mid-1990s, it was closed to visitors.
