Superstition is a belief or practice that consists mostly of ignorance, inadequacy of scientific data, mostly due to some misunderstanding or coincidences, believing in destiny, magic, and fear of the unknown.
Since most superstitions are based on supernatural beings, their influence is often based on religious reasons. The fact that some of them are based on coincidence is known to everyone. Many superstitions also have a history dating back centuries.
Many people from different cultures knock on wood to avoid bad luck. In some places, the earlobe is pulled first and then the wood is struck. People who believe in paganism believe that spirits live in trees and hope for help from those spirits. He says that the spirits hit the wood to protect him.
I have said above that some superstitions are not based on religions but are based on coincidence. A good example of this is that in Australia's famous sports game cricket, the number 87 is known as the devil's number. This is because so far many Australian cricketers have lost the game by 87 points.
Some of these beliefs are even ingrained in our cultures. Just as walking under the stairs will bring bad luck, even people who don't believe change their way to avoid going under the stairs. Another belief is that putting the baguette upside down on the table will bring bad luck. It is believed that if you did this without realizing it, you should scratch the flat part of the bread with a knife.
Raising a toast is something we all do. It is common in most cultures to raise glasses and clinch glasses, saying "cheers". But if you pour water into a glass and raise a glass, you are wishing for your best friend to die. There are some places and cultures where this is believed.
Celebrating your birthday before or after is like inviting bad luck. Those who believe in this are of the view to celebrate the day or not celebrate at all.
If someone is sweeping his house, garden or any place and his broom touches the feet of a single person, that person will be alone all his life and the belief that he will never find his soul mate is dominant in some places. Just for this reason, single people are not attached to a broom.
We also do not forget the fan groups that form totems by getting into shape while watching the match of our favorite team. The effort they went into to find the most suitable totem must be respected.
I also remember those who hung a horseshoe in their house, door and room, believing that a horseshoe would bring good luck. I can't imagine hanging a horse's shoe in the middle of the room.
There are places where it is considered bad luck and misfortune to light 3 cigarettes with a lighter without putting them out. I've seen a lighter explode in the hand of someone who does this, but I don't believe in it. The lighter wasn't of good quality and I thought it caught fire because it burned too hot at the time. However, the decision is yours, coincidence or reality.
Getting bird droppings on your head while walking on the road also means extra luck. There are quite a few people where I live, buying a lottery ticket and waiting for the jackpot at the time of this disgusting incident.
I don't want to get into bad luck with the black cat. As an animal lover, it's not his fault that the cat is black in color and it's sad to know that there are people who stone black cats just because of it.
Let's come to the bad luck of the world-famous number 13. I can't just describe it as lack of education because when we look at the state of this belief, planes, buses and hotels do not use the number 13. How can this be explained in the 21st century?
Those who make a wish when they see a shooting star, there is no falling star. They are meteorites entering the atmosphere.
There are societies and friends who believe that when the mirror is broken, it is a bit of a stretch to regard it as an unlucky and to believe that this unlucky period is 7 years. 7 What kind of thinking can it be to wait for this bad luck to pass for all these years?
It is a superstition, common in almost all countries of the world, to say goodbye to someone who sneezes. When someone sneezes next to us, we immediately wish him well.
The belief that a 4-leaf clover will bring good luck has been adopted by most. Since finding a clover is a problem for me, I don't see a 3-leaf clover, let alone a 4-leaf one.
Let the superstition be for me next, hehehe I like that a little bit. When the left palm itches, it is considered a harbinger of money, and when the right palm itches, it is considered a harbinger of money. I will follow this. I will try which palm will itch on the day I make the payments, and which palm will itch on the day I get money.
One of the superstitions is to throw money into the wishing pools and to tie cloth or some clothes after making a wish to the wishing trees. Actually, I can run a wishing pool. It was enough if I collected the discarded coins daily. Making a wish and blowing out the candles on your birthday can be considered a belief. Although there is no indication that these wishes are granted, many continue to do so.
The only superstition I believe in this ranking is the evil eye. It is believed that the evil eye of colored eyes is more effective. The evil eye of those with blue eyes can even be fatal. To protect against the evil eye, some of the precautions are to put the children's underwear on the wrong side, to pray for the evil eye, and to wear the evil eye bead.
Although superstition, which has its origins in ancient times, is accepted as a lack of education for most people, it is interesting that most of us are educated today and such beliefs still continue. I think it is mostly the fear of the unknown. Even non-believers prefer to do it.
Believe it or not, be aware that the important thing is to protect your health and stay scientific.
