  • "Bibliophobia" Also known as Fear of books

Bibliophobia causes an excessive and overwhelming fear of books. Just thinking about reading a book can trigger the anxiety in some people. People with bibliophobia recognize this fear is not reasonable, but they can’t help it.

  • "Botanophobia" Also known as Fear of plants

Botanophobia is the fear of plants. People with this fear may not fear all plants, some might only be fearful of specific types of plants. The origin of the word batno is Latin (meaning plants) and phobia is Greek (meaning fear). Botanophobia is considered to be a specific phobia, which is discussed on the Phobia Types page. Botanophobia is also related to Anthrophobia and Anthophobia (fear of flowers).

  • "Cacophobia" Also known as Fear of ugliness

Someone suffering from Cacophobia will have a fear of ugliness. This fear is experienced or interpreted in different ways by different people.

Unlike other specific phobias, this type is more subjective.

Every individual defines ugliness in various ways and has a diverse set of criteria to label something/someone as ugly.

This specific phobia can be experienced in two ways; either it is a fear of being/looking ugly or it is the fear of seeing ugly things.

A person with Cacophobia will suffer extreme anxiety if they assume that they look ugly.

  • "Catagelophobia" Also known as Fear of being ridiculed

Catagelophobia is the irrational fear of being ridiculed. Someone suffering from this condition may find the mere thought of being mocked or made fun of to be extremely painful and anxiety provoking. They themselves may already be very self-critical, so when someone else ridicules them or when they perceive that they are being ridiculed by someone else, this may only confirm what they already believe about themselves.

  • "Catoptrophobia" Also known as Fear of mirrors

Is the fear of mirrors. The phobia might be conceived due to the person not agreeing with their beauty or body image in the mirror, especially by obese people, or even the presence of the supernatural.

  • "Chionophobia" Also known as Fear of snow

Chionophobia is an extreme form of anxiety that affects occupational functioning and social relations of the sufferers, as they avoid living in northern climates because they associate cold temperatures with snow.

  • "Chromophobia" Also known as Fear of colors

Fear of colors is called Chromophobia – a word derived from two Greek words namely Chromos and Phobos which respectively mean color and fear or deep aversion. Note that Chromatophobia or Chromophobia is often denoted as the fear of smells or odors. However, there is another word for fear of smells, which is Osmophobia. So, when we say that someone is a Chromatophobe then it usually only means that s/he cannot stand specific colors.

The person suffering from Chronomentrophobia is afraid of the ticking of clocks, watches, time pieces that tell the time and the ticking sound denotes the passing away of seconds.

Claustrophobia is an anxiety disorder that causes an intense fear of enclosed spaces. If you get very nervous or upset when you're in a tight place, like an elevator or crowded room, you might have claustrophobia.Some people have claustrophobia symptoms when they're in all types of closed-up areas. Others notice the problem only when they're in certain cramped spaces, like inside an MRI machine.No matter where claustrophobia pops up for you, you can overcome it with the right treatment.

Coulrophobia is a fear of clowns. It is a type of specific phobia, which involves a fear of a specific situation or object. It is important to note that while many people experience discomfort with clowns, those feelings don't necessarily represent a true phobia.

Cyberphobia, also known as logizomechanophobia, is the fear of or aversion to computers or new technologies. It is sometimes considered a branch of mediaphobia, since computers are often used for assessing the media, as well as a branch of technophobia, since computers are technological marvels.

  • "Cynophobia" Also known as Fear of dogs

Cynophobia, or fear of dogs, is an extremely common specific phobia. Although snake and spider phobias are even more prevalent, the average person is far more likely to encounter dogs in daily life. A phobia of dogs can be devastating, limiting contact with dog-owning friends and relatives, and curtailing normal activities.

  • "Dendrophobia" Also known as Fear of trees

Dendrophobia is the fear of trees. It comes from the Greek word dendro meaning "trees", and phobos, "fear". It is usually triggered from a traumatic childhood experiences, like getting poked by low or fallen branch or a tree falling onto them.

Dentophobia (odontophobia), or fear of dentists, is a common phobia among people of all ages. It is sometimes related to iatrophobia, or fear of doctors, as well as trypanophobia, or fear of needles. Dentophobia may be mild or severe, and can eventually lead to serious health issues.

  • "Domatophobia" Also known as Fear of houses

Domatophobia (oikophobia or eicophobia) is the fear of house or being in a house. Sufferers may perceive homes to be unsafe or repressive, especially after hearing people got robbed or even murdered in their home, either in real life or in movies. Some sufferers who believe in ghosts may fear that the house is haunted.

  • "Dystychiphobia" Also known as Fear of accidents

Dystychiphobia is the excessive fear of having an accident. A person with this fear will experience anxiety and a disruption to their quality of life, as well as exhibit avoidance behaviors to steer clear of any situation that has the potential to produce an accident (even where it is unlikely one would occur).

An intense fear of home is called Ecophobia. It is a type of specific phobia which comes under the category of anxiety disorders in the DSM-V.

Someone suffering from it will experience extreme anxiety when in or near their home.

  • "Elurophobia" Also known as Fear of cats

Ailurophobia describes an intense fear of cats that’s strong enough to cause panic and anxiety when around or thinking about cats. This specific phobia is also known as elurophobia, gatophobia, and felinophobia.

  • "Entomophobia" Also known as Fear of insects

Entomophobia, sometimes known as insectophobia, is the fear of insects. The fear is relatively common in the US, particularly in urban areas where coming into contact with bugs is relatively infrequent because of the lack of interaction with nature.

  • "Ephebiphobia" Also known as Fear of teenagers

Ephebiphobia is the fear of youth or teenagers and it does not include the fear of younger prepubescent children. The word comes from Greek ephebos meaning youth or adolescence and phobos meaning deep aversion or fear. Another word for Ephebiphobia is Hebephobia. Pedophobia, on the other hand, is the fear of infants or young children but it is often mistaken for Ephebiphobia.

Ephebiphobia is more common in the Western world. This may be due to the fact that teenagers here are more concerned about their peers than about other people, leading to segregation of generations or a divide between adults and young people. Many teenagers are involved in gangs and crimes.

Equinophobia is an extreme fear of horses. The word is derived from the Latin word ‘equus’ which means horses and phobos which is ‘deep fear or dread’.

  • "Gamophobia" Also known as Fear of marriage

The fear of commitment in marriage leads some people to choose the path of not getting married. This is known as gamophobia. So, can this fear be overcome?

The answer is of course 'yes' if you have the determination to face that fear. Apart from trying to change perspectives and enriching knowledge about marriage, there are also several ways to get rid of the fear of getting married.

  • "Genuphobia" Also known as Fear of knees

Your knee is the largest joint in your body. Most people don’t really think about their knees, but some people have an illogical fear of them. The name for this condition is genuphobia. It comes from the Latin word, genu, which means knee and the Greek word, phobia, which means fear. Genuphobia is translated as fear of knees or of injury to the knees.

  • "Glossophobia" Also known as Fear of speaking in public

Glossophobia, or the fear of public speaking, is remarkably common. In fact, some experts estimate that as much as 77% of the population has some level of anxiety regarding public speaking. Of course, many people are able to manage and control the fear. If your fear is significant enough to cause problems in work, school, or in social settings, then it is possible that you suffer from a full-blown phobia.
