Head's up: featured communities will be gone

Yes, we're cancelling the features communities experiment.

This means no more points for articles and short posts in featured communities, and for moderation too. So, yes moderation becomes an unpaid work.

The "Featured" tab will be removed and replaced back with the "All" tab.

100% of daily points will be given by the random rewarder.

Affiliates still get 10% for the points their referrals get from the random rewarder and 3% for paid upvotes by their referrals.

There are a few reasons for this.

  1. Communities became the new hideout for low quality content. We tried to make more and more rules, but often we can't even figure out what's up - where do people get this content and whether anyone even needs this content.

  2. The amount of work. People are registering ~30-50 communities per day and that number will only raise. That means each week we'll have to review up to 350 new communities (350 first week, 700 next week, ~1400 at the end of the month, etc...) It takes a lot of time to review one, let alone 1500(!)

  3. Often it's really-really hard to understand whether the community is of any use to anyone.

  4. When we compare the rewards that go to people by the random rewarder to rewards that go for articles in communities - it's just terrible. The random rewarder (which in reality is an artificial intelligence, despite what the name says) really picks up great authors, like really great! Whereas featured communities often have zero views. Like total zero. Why should we sponsor this content?

  5. We have to decline a lot of good communities, because they don't really fit the idea of a "single topic".

  6. It's really-really-really hard for us to judge foreign language communities. Suppose we see some bad articles, but why? Is it Google Translate that is bad or is it just simply bad content?

We think that with the new rule of one submission per community bad communities will go away on their own, just lacking any content.

Why should you submit to a community then?

Because communities have subscribers. Those subscribers see things from communities immediately on their homepage. Which means bigger audience for you.

So, submit for the audience/exposure, not for the points.

Why should you be a moderator then?

If you have to ask, maybe you shouldn't. Being a moderator is hard and it wasn't paying that well either. Good moderators already earn points from their own articles and comments, so they should only do it if they feel like.

Moderators' jobs should be easier now though with the fact that you can only submit to one community and nobody would be submitting just because it's a featured community.

Hopefully, this will start a "survival of the fittest" mechanism for the communities.

Why didn't you tell me this earlier?

Frankly, we didn't know. Our plan was that featured communities will solve all of our spam problems, but in reality they became endless grounds for arguments about whether some community should be approved or not. All this time is better used improving the site. Also, our small experiment with the random rewarder turned out really well.

Is it hard to get rewards from the random rewarder? No, really not, sometimes it takes 7 hours from your first article until the rewarder starts sending points your way... and when you get them, you'll enjoy them!

Right now the random rewarder picked 732 users that are worth supporting and this number grows every day.

Considering the ramdom rewarder already works as a way to earn cash by simply having an audience, this works too. No need to scramble and check which is which.

Then can we start accepting multiple languages in our community or it should stay as one single language? It is easier with single languages. Just asking.

It's up to you. Frankly I think multiple language communities don't make much sense unless they are targeted at some nationalities that natively speak two or more languages.

Communities are to be used for subheadings from now on. People can search and find related topics within a specific community

I for one am very about these changes. I kept on seeing stuff that was tagged OC, but when I looked at it it wasn't. And on a few occasions is hard to tell. Plus I had communities not entering featured despite the good moderation work i was doing. Well done Read Cash! :)

I guess you should also look into the language settings of each community-submissions must be submitted in one language only.
Or simply fix the whole Readcash to general language which is English. This may not be a good idea for others but I think submissions in English language will help your evaluation easier because if you rely only on Google translate, I don't think it's very accurate.
Sorry Google but based on my experience, translating a whole text with Google translate is just no good. Even I, am having a hard time constructing my sentences in English but somehow it develops my skill.

I am sure that this has been a hard process but it sounds like an easy decision.

It is a pity that so much of your time is being wasted of trying to ensure quality content and a vibrant and sustainable community.

Thank you everyone at read.cash for your efforts; they are truly appreciated.

Well, I see the point in that and I have to admit that many communities are pain in the ass also a non reward job for serious moderators, people difficult that and with the new system it will be more easier to pick up the ones that really need the support from the site, the random reward will suit better I know that the site works for the better of the content creators and to avoid spammers, just one more challenge😎

It's really-really-really hard for us to judge foreign language communities. Suppose we see some bad articles, but why? Is it Google Translate that is bad or is it just simply bad content?

We are also having problems with Spanish, Bengali and Philippines language. In my opinion, these are some that need a special translator and not fit with Google translator.

Hopefully, this will start a "survival of the fittest" mechanism for the communities.

This sound a lot more fun 😄

Sometimes Google translation is really bad, when they translate our local language it has different meaning sometimes funny sometimes will give you headaches to understand what it says. Anyway whatever changes again we will embrace it as long as for the betterment of this platform. Thank you for always updating read cash team ❤️

Hello Read.Cash. I have a suggestion, since you're doing your best to make everything better in place. ( random reward, single language, singles topic). Can you be the one to choose the community with single topic and language.?so that particular topic wont be scattered on to the same ( name) community. For example : eliminate either Photography (a) or Photography (b) with both english as their language. is it possible? --- thanks @read.cash :)

Thanks. Moderator are not really moderators at all here (not all of them). Moderator's job is really base on knowledge how much one has, so he can't judge whether article is worthy or not. Being a moderator is a special task that should performed by field knowledge base expert. So to good hear that feature community tag were removed, it is now very much simple. Small Suggestion: Make random rewarder in small proportion for moderators too. Why? It will still incentivize them to filter out articles and eventually whole system will up.

I think it's better to make a new community closed, or if it is needed a new community must go through admin permission.

This is a good decision, for me is a welcome development since the random rewarder is doing a good job picking great and quality authors work and rewarding them accordingly. The honest truth is that there has been no improvement in the articles been submitted to most featured Communities, though i wouldn't judge the moderators. Having all the Communities back will increase the number of articles per day, because so many people has stopped writing for no featured Communities that suits their articles. Again engagement on articles will be back. Now i can write on any topic and have it submitted

I know read.cash doing good for their members. For spammer and cheater doing their work continuously . So read.cash go to strick day by day. First time when i joined read.cash it’s so much platform to earn something but now It's very complex. Sometimes we cannot get points for writtinng an article. But to write an article everyone need to more than 20-30 minutes +. Today i show that @read.cash STOP to giving points to any modaretor. For this i hope create an another problem . Before every admin/modaretor cheek oc cheeker, also cheek full article.then they approved or reject article But now they don’t do it.Becouse they don’t get any points to do that. So why they do it? . For this they approved article without cheek it or use auto approval. I hope @read.cash read my article and do something. Read.cash have now more than 7000+ members so read.cash team not able to cheak or review all the community /article/comment. I hope Community admin /moderetor hepls you something(my opinion). So select good admin/moderetor and give them some profit for this they help read.cash team to free from copy/spam etc. And addition, about my opinion some times a member get more points for one article, someone cannot get any points. But their article are same quality. I hope read.cash know better what need to do. But me express my opinion. Obviously read.cash is a good platform to us. In this corona paramedic this platform helps some people to earn some money. Thank you for everything . I hope read.cash authority Consideration what need to do.

how we get points now? randomly through what? posting articles and commenting? (besides of course when someone paid upvoted your article)

My opinion is stop publicizing how you tend to reward quality content and goof authors. That way the spammers or those who try to chear thr system are clueless as to how the rewards comes in and how to counter it. That way only geniune content creators and supporters of the platform would remain and funds duely managed.

I wish I would have joined this platform later. Why? Because I can hardly keep trace with all these daily changes.

What I understand is the communities are useless and not more than the topics of interest you had at the start. Not one single subscriber goes to a community and starts reading the posts added...well, one might which is the moderator. If you ask me this platform would have been easier if those topics (per language) would exist. If you ask me the choice of all these languages is pointless anyway if no one can or will read it. Just pick the most common languages used worldwide.

It feels to me too only certain topics are allowed to write about which gives me the creeps somehow. Not because I like to write about each topic (not my field of interest) but because the difference - I thought - between blockchain platforms and the internet/platforms we all know is the freedom of speech. The right to share your opinion.

Great you have found such a big sponsor believing in this platform. I think with the huge sponsorship more things will change, new rules will set, fewer topics.

What more can I say? It is sad some communities did find a way here too to break this platform. I don't understand why what the fun is but apparently the random upvoter rewards them all better than me.

Strength to the read.cash team. I admire you for keep searching for ways to make this work. Big applaud for you. 👍🍀

fwiw, I've always believed THIS is how the world should work, lol

Also, our small experiment with the random rewarder turned out really well.

considering that you say your team is small, as in you don't have hundreds of eyes curating the ever growing content on this site, this seems like where you should focus your time and energy to maximize your return .. and just damn the haters (aka spammers)

i know the fund just got a $100k boost, but this news makes me wanna up my share 😉

I have a slight concern about sponsorships. After approval you can never cancel or remove the sponsor. So what if they change the landing page to which the ad goes to into something awful and you cannot remove that? There should be something added for that asap

The problem is that they paid for it. In some extreme cases you can of course email us and we'll do something manually, but generally you'd have to return money paid in that case and that's not easy to do :)

Oh. Moderating these Big communities is getting more and more time consuming. The daily rewards helped me being able to redistribute BCH to articles, that stood out, in form of direct tips. Now I have to start to pay out of my own pocket again, I don't even have any BCH anymore at these times. I don't really have time to write a blog, my activity on here was moderation and maybe some 'tech support' in the comments, for which I received ~1$ daily, that I could tip away on here. I really liked the idea of paid curation. If there was any way to get some kind of reward for my genuine organization of these huge groups, that'd be appreciated.

btw. I also think moderation of communities should have a few tools for better management. A few suggestions:

  • Why not limiting the creation of communities to a few per person? or X amount per year per person?
  • Wait for a community to get to a certain size + activity to be eligible for rewards?
  • Feature communities with a certain growth rate or user base? (meter power user existence?)
  • Incorporate the Topics structure again. Every community has a combo of up to 3 relevant topics to chose. The creation of communities which already have the exact same combo of topics only get rewarded, once they get bigger than the previous community. (size and articles)
  • Maybe at least a way to upvote or tip the community itself, as it is tedious work to click through the articles. And I can't easily give this job to others, most cases other moderators have mismanaged my communities and I only find out down the road, because there is no notifaction or log.
  • ways to resubmit articles after being edited and best to have a list of rejected articles, blocked and whitelisted users, that I can correct for mistakes or if I have changed my mind. There are whitelisted people I cannot undo, who can and sometimes do snuck off topic articles in my community, that I do not even see.
