The COMedy Rumble: Strange Things.
I submitted an entry for the Comedy Open Mic on Hive and I shared my experience based on what I faced when I was serving in another state as far back as 2008. It's something you can look back on and smile about now but it wasn't something to laugh at back then. We were mostly angry and looked forward to when we would leave service year π€£π. I also shared some of the strange food combinations people eat which I can never understand ππ.
I've had my fair share of strange things in this life. The things that left my jaw dropping and the ones that makes me show that surprised emoji as though my eyes would pop out from their sockets. Some things my eyes have seen, even my mouth is tired of talking about them. Sometimes I just look the other way and mind my business but there are some times you just can't mind your business especially when you are being dealt with by the mosquitoes.
During my mandatory National Youth Service Corps after graduation from the University, I was posted to another state called Kwara. I have never been there but I was excited because at least I wasn't sent into a land so far away. It's just 3-4 hours away from my State. After the orientation camp, I was posted to a place called Lafiagi which is another roughly 2 hours.
Everything in that place is always to the extreme πππ€£π€£π. If it rains, just pray you are indoors else you wouldn't have a place to hide except in another person's house. When it's windy, just pray you have no clothing items outside else, just plan on buying another cloth because you can't find it again. Ah! When it's sunny, you can have your bath 3-4 times a day and I wondered if maybe that's why everyone there looks so dark πππ. We were in the common room when this wind started that day. I saw it coming and I quickly ran into my room, locked my windows and bolted my door when someone ran downstairs to pick up his washed clothes. As he was passing the common room, this wind lifted the blackboard and threw it on his back as though the wind was angry why it was denied an opportunity to wear clothes. It was funnier when the guy narrated it to us.
It was in this place that I noticed mosquitoes are different. Ah. Whoever tells you that simple things in life don't matter, knock the person on the head because it's obvious that person has never been in bed with a mosquito. Tiny but powerful with commanding effect. I've never seen a mosquito with curvy proboscis or mouth before. I killed this mosquito and I noticed the curvy mouth. That was when I knew that mosquitoes have grade - straight mouths, curvy mouths, bent mouths and strange-looking ones too.
Another strange thing I've seen involves food. If you live in Nigeria and you see some weird food combinations, just know that whoever is combining such want to fill the tummy so they won't have to eat again either till the next day or later that night. We call it tummy stuffing but I can never understand people combining Noodles/Spag with bread. Ah. Are you a cultist? What is your sole purpose or what do you want to achieve with that weird combo? How can people combine noodles with bread, bread oh... I mean bread? Ah
The one that gets me confused the most are those who combine Fufu (Starch) with beans. When you are not an armed robber, how can people eat Fufu (Starch) with beans? I've always been hearing the phrase that says "Many are mad but few are roaming" I actually believed it for the first time when I started seeing weird food combinations.
What's the weird food combination you've had or seen before now? I would love to know...
Thank you for your time.
My pen doesn't bleed, it speaks. I am love's chemical content in human form and that's whyΒ I advise people to take a dose of "Olawalium" daily. π
