Warning Signs of Complacency.
Image Source. https://www.pexels.com/photo/melancholic-woman-watching-video-on-laptop-at-home-3808012/ I promised to touch on this for a while now and even before I read @fantagira's post. Of course, I am tilting towards another angle with this. My anger is with Ernesto inside most of us hahaha. We all have Ernesto - that horse inside us that would want us to take a laid back approach when we should be reaching for the moon. We are all guilty of being complacent and no matter how much we want to twist it, we have been caught in that web of it too many times than we can count. I have been guilty too because I've been writing my books with my mouth over the years and when Monika said "***Ola, that book won't write itself***" I felt that hahahaha. That's for you to know for how long I've been pushing it away too, so, I am as guilty as everyone too. Sometimes we think we are taking a deserved rest when we don't even know we are already getting complacent. We think we have all the time in the world to do other things but some things are time-bound and the moment you have missed that moment, you might never get it back. Anyone who wastes an hour in the morning would spend the whole day looking for it because time is precious and what separates the rich from the poor is how they use their time. When preparation meets with opportunity, success is inevitable. There are some things we can still do later which might not require urgency, I agree but we all know that time keeps counting and the energy with the zeal that would be needed if we do it later won't be the same as if we had done it before. Yes, you can write at any time, and you can share your story at any time but people move on too quickly, so if you don't take advantage of the time you have now, you might get frustrated later on even after you have done the right thing. It would make you question if you were meant to do it in the first place, forgetting that you were the one who didn't strike the iron when it was hot. Imagine the energy it would take to strike a hot iron to that of a cold one? You would need twice as much energy when it's cold than when it's hot. As I have said, some things are time-bound and the moment you miss that window, you can as well just say goodbye to that dream. We sometimes get complacent and we don't even know it. Perhaps you are thinking right now if you are getting complacent but the Ernesto in you is convincing you that you are not. Here are some of the points I want to share with us so we can know when to strike our iron hot. **5 Warning Signs of Complacency.**
Image Source. https://www.pexels.com/photo/adult-book-boring-face-267684/ **1. You are complacent when you are no longer striving to do your best.** It's never easy to attain that high level and sometimes when we attain it, we take things for granted. We ignore the things we did that got us to that level and start riding on past glory. Yesterday's achievement is tomorrow's mediocrity. What you think you achieved today that sets the record, you can be sure that another person is warming up, using your story as a motivation to topple that achievement. We live in a world where people move on too quickly and they go with the "***next big thing***". So, if you get complacent, you will be left behind. When you are riding on your past achievements and you are no longer putting in the effort, then you are getting complacent. We used to say that the rich keeps getting richer and that's because the rich man knows what it feels like not to have which makes it easier for him to keep giving his best. We have often joked about it with people that we feel are rich. We have often asked them why they are stressing themselves when they have all the money in the world. They understand that being complacent means they would be left behind and no one wants to be known as the "***rich man of yesterday.***" Not being relevant anymore has led so many people into depression because they have been used to getting that attention and often confuse it for loyalty but with the way the world is, if you are not constantly pushing yourself harder, you will soon be forgotten. Whatever you are doing, if it stretches you too much, try and drop some areas in that thing. Why? Am I contradicting myself? No. This is because I would rather have less area to work with and do more rather than have more areas to work on and do less. If you can handle three major things at once, handle those three things. Don't do more, don't do less. This is why I don't force people who couldn't handle being on different blog sites. If you are better suited to giving your best to just 2 blogs, by all means, face it and over time you can build character to handle more. **...to be continued...** *Thank you for your time.* *My pen doesn't bleed, it speaks. I'm always excited to read your articles because I learn from them each time and this was no exception. This one felt like you know were talking to me, i have so many things to do but I'm relaxed about it instead of giving my best. It is well.
We have all been there and it's best to strike that iron when it's hot. I am glad you enjoyed it. It means a lot. Thank you.

Truly certain things are time bound and we canβt take the time for granted. I remember I wanted to become a doctor so after my intermediate exams I had to pass entry test in order to get admission in medical college. I was a bright student, but I used to waste time. Every time I decided to study, I would think β I have enough time, will do it laterβ. I kept on doing that and at the end I had no time for test preparation. I was not able to pass the exam. So yes we often take things for granted specially TIME. & we realise it once itβs gone.. by the way waiting for your next article sirβ
I am so sorry about your exams. That's what taking time for granted is about. Once that time is gone, it's hard to get back. It's best we act quickly the moment we feel the need or impulse to do so. Would publish the next one soon. Thank you.
You are right Sirβ looking forward to your next article..
Thank you. Published already.
We need consistency to achieve an opportunity. Through past achievements we can console ourselves for short time but not always. A good and motivational words by you brother.
I like that...for a short time and not for always which is why we need to constantly be at our best. Thank you so much.
Welcome brother, Your article are really awesome to read.
I'm happy and grateful.
That's just it, my mind always tells me sometimes, how product a 20 minutes break can be if I use it to do something concerning my future, I sometimes get a good result and sometimes I learn from the failure, at least I won't repeat it.
That's it...at least it's not a waste because you picked up something which would be useful. I love that.
I personally know that procrastination is my weakness. But like to said, I also believe that it is better for me to be the best at one that be good at many. If you standout for a particular thing, it I better than being known for many. Finally, you weren't complacent about complacency
π€£π€£πππ€£π yes, I wasn't complacent about it. I listened to my heart and wrote the three part series in a single day. Would post the second part today. Thank you so much.
"Laziness might seem very attractive, but only hard work gives us true satisfaction". We all are guilty of complacency. Sometimes I remember an important task that I have to do, but I'm still unable to get up and do it. The devil is a liar fa
πππ€£π€£ππ even the devil would say, mehn, this ain't my handwriting yo! This is on you πππ€£π€£. We've all been there.
Lol. Especially when I have chop belleful π€£

Time is conscious, only human being can wait for Time and Time can not wait for any body,so we have calculate our time that we spent in each of our activities in life if not so time will pass us by, Rich men that are very conscious of their time that they spent in each activities, and if anything that you do will delay your time suspend it and go for another thing that will satisfy you, let's be conscious of our time.
Whoever isn't conscience of time would have things slip by so fast and quickly too. Time management and acting when we should...that's everything.
We will be left behind if we are complacent about things. Time does not wait for any man and the better we get at it, the easier the journey would be for us. No one will do it for us just as Monica has told you that your book will not write itself. That is the truth about life and us.
It's the absolute truth, my dear. Time waits for no man and events pass us by so quickly. Better time to act is now. The best time to plant a tree was 25 years ago and the next best time is now.
You are on point here Sir, overly dependence on past glory is the first step to doom. One might be gradually losing it without him knowing because he's still in the past. That's why I love Ronaldo, the past remains in the past for him, it can only motivate him to do better. My love for him is beyond football.
That guy is not only amazing but sensational. The way he pushes himself enh...just that my useless club wants to dent his career. I hope he makes another huge statement next season. Our past achievements should motivate us to do more, not relax. Messi finally got a brace...making 4 goals π€£π
Complacency, in my own words, is being completely pleased with ones status quo, and not striving for more success. Complacency is being relaxed when we ought to have being hard working. Not willing to give our best, is surely a warning sign of it.
Succinctly put. I love that... Perfect definition that sums it all up.
The first sign hit me. It just says so much about how we sometimes lose the sight of the things we want to do best. And sometimes, we feel so comfortable with taking some rest and thinking that we have so many time left in our hands. But in reality, enjoying the rest and giving so much time in it just slows us down.
Exactly, my friend..it slows us down. It makes us lose sight of what lies ahead while we keep revelling in past achievements.
Oh I was left hanging lol! The first sign is already applicable to me and it had been so for a long time now.
We have all been there and I believe we still have time to get it sorted out. It's always nice to always give our best because no one knows which one might be the big break that would make us dream something bigger.
I feel like this article is attacking me directly because this is actually my situation right now π I recently resumed a skill which I have abandoned for some years but instead of trying to go back to the basics just to refresh my memory, I find myself being too relaxed about the how thing as if I have already mastered the skill. I guess complacency works inversely against motivation; if the motivation is not longer there, you're bound to become complacent
Hahahaha you are right. Once the motivation is lacking, it is easier to get complacent and that's why I mentioned that we need to motivate ourselves from the inside. Outward motivation wears out but when we feel it deep within, it keeps us going even when situation makes it hard for us not to.
In Life, time doesn't wait for anybody at, the hand of time can't be tie down, and if we don't do what we are supposed to do at the appropriate time, we might regret it later in life. Of a truth, i was once a victim of complacency whereby i felt so much satisfied with my level and wasn't having feeling of improving myself or thinking of striking advancement. Before i got to the university, i felt i was mathematically sound enough to handle whatever calculation course i would meet in my engineering department, all the time i was home, i was neither reading reading, nor doing more research as to calculations. I felt i was very good, i was living by past glory. Until i got to the university, and reality began to dawn on me. I saw it clearly that, all the time i was home, if i had been improving myself, the first semester would have been easier for me than it was. It's not good to live by the past glory at all, because it's not going to allow us to focus on the future. Purposeful people understand its negative effects, so they try not to live by it. Even in the Bible (Philippians 3:13): Apostle Paul say this words: This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before me. Thanks for this article sir.
You have touched every angle with your example and brilliant comment. This just says a lot about the message I am trying to drive at. I always appreciate your deep understanding and thanks a lot for sharing this with us all.
So I guess I am complacent co'z I'm not striving for giving and showing the best in me
We have all been there and the good thing is, we can still do something about it.
Itβs a donkey, not a horse Ola! π π π Horses are hard working animals, donkeys are just stubborn π π π There might be many activities which seemingly could be place into the complacency bag, but having a rest is just as important as work in my opinion. I have βwastedβ many days doing nothing at all on my sofa. They were well needed though, cause I was able to come back stronger afterwards π
πππ€£π€£π€£πππ€£ look who I have here yaaaaaaay. Of course, rest is important but one can't always be in a perpetual state of rest, that's the whole point. A little rest to re-energize is profitable and better than taking rest that has become habits that gives people excuse not to do much.
