Are You A Leader?
A lot of us are familiar with the word "leader" but not many people are used to the responsibilities that come with it including the exposure. We have all at some point confused the position for the role. The position comes with the roles but many people see the position as a popularity contest and fail to live up to the roles. They just want the title and they are clueless as to what it entails.
Your leadership ability is about the impact you can make rather than the title you are holding. If you can’t make something significant with the position you are holding, then what's the point? Being a leader is about leading a group of people to achieve a common goal and they develop alongside too. A leader should spot different strengths and use them to benefit the whole.
Always talk about the impacts you are making. I was intrigued when Steve Jobs was asked what he tells people. He said he doesn't say "I sell phones" but rather he said, "I make lives better" It's not surprising why a lot of people can part away with their hard-earned money to get it.
Wherever you find yourself, always try to make a difference rather than seeking to just be known. In making a difference you will still be known... So, what are you doing with the role you are holding? Are you exploiting others? Are you using it to oppress others? Is anyone better as a result of the position you are holding without having to pull others down? These are questions only we can answer.
As a person, you don’t know what you are capable of doing until you are asked to do it. This is why you need to take opportunities and never say no. Learn to try things...Others see more in us than we see in ourselves, sometimes. We need to always be ready to take on things we have never done before.
During my service year, I never knew I could address a lot of people, not to even talk of speaking on behalf of a group of people. Our State Coordinator visited us and upon her arrival, I was told to address her on behalf of every corp member. I ran to the back of the group, not knowing the state coordinator was watching all along. She pointed at me herself again and I stepped forward. I spoke and when I was done, everyone clapped. The state coordinator said something I would never forget and I quote, "A golden fish can never hide." It humbled me and I smiled.
I never knew I could speak convincingly without muttering words together with a group of people staring at my face but when I was called upon, though I tried to hide, I never said no. If I had told them I can’t do it, they would find another corp member to do it, but I am glad I stepped forward and my confidence level shot up ever since then. Nothing fazes me anymore and there is no one I can’t address right now.
Leadership will expose you to a lot of things you never thought you could do before. In leadership, you will be exposed to things and you must never place a limit on yourself. There is nothing you cannot do if you have the right attitude and you put your mind to it. Have a favourable disposition to things and learn to dare new things. You never really know how far you can go until you stretch.
With great power comes great responsibility. Making a tough decision come with being a leader and you must have a decision-making process and how you reached that decision. Some people are never quick to make decisions. Some people process longer and spend days before they can reach a logical decision while some will make their decision on the spot. When you know yourself and how you make your decisions, you can learn how to respond to situations without pressure.
Be rational with your decisions; never make decisions based on emotions; how excited you are, how you feel about someone, or how angry or hungry you are. Food is powerful too 😂🤣. Weigh the pros and cons of everything without bias. Never be cajoled to make decisions under pressure too. Learn to always take your time because you will be the one to bear the consequences of whatever decision you make. They say everything always rises and falls on leadership.
As a leader, always make sure you are adding value to lives. Never leave anyone as you met them; rather leave people better than you met them because that is the only reason why you won’t be dispensable. When you are a value adder, you become indispensable. Lead from where you are...you are a leader within your rights.
Thank you for your time.
My pen doesn't bleed, it speaks. I am love's chemical content in human form and that's why I advise people to take a dose of "Olawalium" daily. 🙈

I feel inspired with your article, you said to take opportunities and don't say no to it. I am a class president in our classroom right know, and I don't know how things work or how I should approach my classmates since Im shy all of the time. But, I guess I should be brave since they elect me on that position not knowing what I'm capable of. I need to take responsibility and handle them, and about how to handle them I'm gonna figured it out as things unfold.
