No electricity, no problem!

Almost three months after the supertyphoon hit the province and since then we still don't have electricity back home. It is given and expected that it would take a long time for the linemen to fix the electricity posts and lines in our area since it is not located in the highway. The road leading our barangay is not even passable by heavy vehicles so yeah, we would have to make do with our alternatives as it may take a long time for the power to be restored.

Our barangay is located in a mountanous area. Though it has large number of residents, the linemen cannot just simply go there and fix the lines for they need to prioritize the barangays which are located near the town.

Meanwhile, people back home have found ways to brighten up their nights and make their appliances still work even without electricity. Other people have purchased generators, solar-powered lights, inverters and more. Business is slowly going back to normal there. Business-minded people have earned a lot for allowing the teens and some adults to charge their phones, flashlights and speakers through the use of their generators. They would charged 10 pesos for a full-charged gadget. They will now use this to buy gasoline for the consumption of their generator.

Refrigerators are also working. The stores sell ice for 10 pesos and the frozen goods have increased in prize. Truly, this time is only favorable for the businessmen.

Another store had his wifi for rent before. A lot of teens would chill at her house so they can have access to the virtual world just by paying 10 pesos a day. It was really a booming business back then until Odette came. But fret not, Filipinos are clever. Their wifi now is powered by solar energy so even without electricity the teens back home can still log in to their favorite social networking sites.

Few weeks without electricity was really horrible. But we are creatures who adapt and innovate so no worries.

Perks of Having No Electricity

1.Silence is comforting. We can spend a lot of time to meditate and think about the debts that we have forgotten to pay. lol

2.Moon and stars look amazing. They shine brighter without electricity.

3.Early to bed, early to rise makes a man wise. It gives us a chance to establish healthy sleeping habits.

4.We have to do the laundry manually which is a good exercise. lol

5.A chance to eat healthy and freshly-cooked meals because there is no refrigerator. This times forced us to make our own meals and not rely on left-overs as there are none available. It also disciplines us to cook only what we can consume because we cannot preserve it for long.

6.No electric bill. Pockets will never run dry because of the huge electric bill. More resources to be used for other purposes. More spare money. More savings.

7.Less screen time. My niece won't be absorb to watching cartoons and youtube videos anymore.

There are more perks of having no electricity. One of the most valuable is having a lot of spare time to spend with family. There would be a lot of time chitchating and time for catching up.

We are still hopinng for the electricity to be restored but for now, we are patiently waiting for the whole process to be done. There are still a lot more advantages of having electricity, of course, no wonder.

Thanks for reading. Until then.

I do agree with the benefits of having no electricity. I experienced no electricity for a really long time when I was studying f2f and live in boarding house that's also after a typhoon yr 2019, we have to go to the malls to charge our gadgets. The good thing is, it's because we only have one chargeable light, all of our board mates gather and we eat dinner together, that's the start of our closer bond.

Lack of electricity is close to death on earth haha. Because of how attached we've become to modern technology, it seems impossible to live without electricity. When you mentioned the perks of light outage, I realised there's a truth to it. Sometimes modern technology distracts us from seeing the beauty in external environments.

It takes time for line men to fix electricity at mountainous area since the priority are on town or near the road where the post are standing since it will serve as a path for installing continuous line of wires throughout the place, truly there are lots of perks of having no electricity if living on province but it's a big nightmare if electricity is cut off for weeks in rural areas like here on Manila.
