Story: In a few minutes, we are to premiere our video on an exclusive Facebook group that our office organized. We have worked hard for this video that will serve as a teaser for our upcoming events. My bosses are expecting that everything will run according to plan.

Until we both realized that there was a miscommunication. I played the video using my personal account, rather than the office's official social media account.

I was called out and scolded. It may look like a no big deal but the intensity of the situation then felt like I messed up badly, like it was an awful mistake.

But looking back at all the collective mistakes I've committed in the past, I realized that there's more to them than just disappointing moments in my history. Even our failures and downtimes have something to tell us.

Mistakes are normal

No one is fool-proof. We are all capable of committing a mistake. Some hide it, some fake it, while some blatantly parade their mistakes without pretensions. But no matter how we deal with our mistakes, we can all agree that it is a normal occurrence. We are bound to commit one. Reason: no one is perfect. No one has figured it all out.

Mistakes make you stronger

A bodybuilder doesn't tone his muscles overnight. It is a result of hard work and constant strain on the muscles. Likewise, our mistakes make us stronger. It means we are learning from the several times we fall. It tones our persistence, it sharpens our mind and our ability to handle situations.

Mistakes keep you grounded

A person who hasn't known a life-changing defeat tends to be proud and arrogant. But a person who is familiar with how failure looks like is more careful and humble. He knows that life is not always a holiday. There will be seasons of loss and defeat. Nothing equalizes people more than our opportunity to lose at certain points in our lives.

Mistakes expose our true self

Mistakes are tests of character. It either refines us to be better or breaks us down. It will make either make us miserable or motivate us to work even harder. Mistakes expose our true selves. It reveals what's inside us. Are we strong on the inside, as much as we portray on the outside? Or we chicken out at the moment we face failure?

Mistakes fire up our grit

Nothing makes us more motivated to win than tasting defeat. It fires us up. It makes us hungrier to achieve our goals more than ever. It drives us closer to our focus, with laser-sharp eyes. People who have been matured by failures are more determined to prove to themselves and the world that they are capable and that their past mistakes don't define them.

Mistakes are just another step closer to success. It is not an end in itself. We should not be afraid to make mistakes, though we should not be haphazard and not aim for victory either. Life gives us two options: win or learn. Losing is just a mindset.
