Covid19 Resilience

All nations are in this fight for resilience against covid19, and so far the world only rely on vaccines to make it work, of course, aside from the underlying stringent protocols - face mask, handwash/sanitizing and social distancing. But, if we have to dream of going back to normal - no hassles in traveling, no more quarantine, no social/ physical distancing and no more mask (and face shield), our only chance as one nation is herd immunity, that is through mass vaccinations.

Covid19 Resilience

Last May 2021, Bloomberg published an article about the Covid19 resilience score among nations. Leading in the ranking was New Zealand, Singapore and Australia. With its resilience, there has been a bit more normal lifestyle in these countries, students were in a regular classroom setting, no more face mask outdoor, no more social distancing, and even theaters were opened. This is what we should foresee post Covid19, however these didn't last long enough with the Delta variant. Australia and Singapore just recently had lockdowns, the virus re-emerge stronger. In the most recent ranking last July 2021, Norway and Switzerland emerged at the top 2, while the Philippines at the bottom five.

Accurate or not, I took this info as something to ponder on how my country generally improves in sustaining resilience at this time of pandemic.

Where Are We Now?

At the time of reading the news from Bloomberg (that was May of 2021) till the next couple of months, I have a feeling that we are heading towards a successful battle for resilience, statistically from the resilience score the Philippines goes up after several months when the vaccination kicked off. Evidently, we can see changes too indeed. First, Covid19 cases, especially in crowded cities have lowered already. Second, the vaccination went well, it has been moving fast enough to the greater marginalized population. Lastly, I had felt less pressure from travel restrictions between provinces and cities.

However, when the Covid19 Delta Variant came. All of the above feelings of resilience became a make believe. The number of infected cases increased dramatically and hospital beds for Covid19 isolation were getting full. In Cebu and Cagayan de Oro, there has been a rapid consumption of Oxygen tanks, you can see makeshift beds in hospital corridors, and unsafe accommodation for supposedly isolated patients. It's a sad reality for now. What are we doing to offer a solution for this crisis? When some people still don't believe that the virus exist? And, some still fail to see the need?

Vaccination Fear and Apprehensions

Most uninformed individuals I had an opportunity to talk with in the streets have vaccination apprehensions mostly from hearsays and fake news. One person told me that the vaccines targeted the extinction of the senior citizens that's why they're given first, well, are frontline workers were subjects for extinction too? Another one mentioned about microchips implanted with it, in a jeepney I heard a man say that the virus are injected with the vaccine to infect people and havoc more casualties. The worst naysayers even insisted that after 5 years we'll be zombies. All these do not bring us to resilience, we instill fear instead and it does not give any helpful contribution to end Covid19.

Closing Thoughts

Our mind is indeed brilliant in imaginations. How about simplifying our thoughts and converting them into action, and just be part of the solution we know for now.

In my personal opinion, I just hope some brilliant minds could better invest also for effective treatment strategies and transform this virus just like a common cold! That would be a really awesome breakthrough!

Anyway, wherever you are stay safe and be individually immuno-resilient: eat healthy, take those vitamins, exercise and always get enough sleep everyday. Above all, pray that all these things shall come to pass in His time.

Thanks for reading!

Aruy.

Ako talaga noon against ako sa vaccine kasi ang thinking ko noon ay iba-iba tayo ng body, cells, immune system and all. Na anong assurance na it would really be my defense against the virus. Pero no choice ako but to get vaccinated kasi nagpavaccine parents ko. Hehe.

Kami nga Sinovac kc un ung unang dumating dito sa pinas at of course being a healthworker nauna na kami. Regarding exercise, importante talaga for our immune system, kahit 45 minutes lang 3-4 times a week.

It's already a mental challenge dealing with this virus and now there are lots of hearsays about the vaccine that are unfounded which adds to our anxiety. I hope people should stop spreading fake news.

It's incredible how people are capable of inventing things. I would say mainly out of fear of the unknown and a bit of ignorance. But as given, if we want to have a normal world again, we need herd immunity. And we will only achieve that if the majority of the population is vaccinated.

True. No other way, and I hope people are open- minded about it.

the new variant talaga ang nakakastress.. ung mga borders natin closed ulit due to this and I don't like the way vaccinations are doing their thing. I don't like waiting in line for hours. Bakit nila nagawang magbigay ng schedules for the national id tapos sa vaccine indi? mas maganda talaga na may sched na sinusunod para wla tlagang close contact with anybody else...

Uu nga eh grabe ang pila talaga for vaccination. Nkakaawa lalo na ung mga senior citizens na walang escort kasi mapipilitan silang mkipagsiksikan... dapat sana may sked like wat time ka pwede pumunta at kung elan lang ang pwede e accomodate for that hour.

Some of us fear to get vaccinated because of some side effects, and we cannot blame other people for that. I just hope that this COVID will end soon.

It will not end unless we acquire herd immunity and vaccination lang talaga susi nyan. We can lessen side effects by boosting our immune system, staying healthy -eating and living healthy.

Mum said we just have to live with this covid virus just like the rest of virus we have as long as we are fully vaccinated. And she dont understand why people wont take the vaccine because they are scared that they will die but many are dying because of virus and they are not afraid of it.

Keep safe always Lyca.

Oh she's brilliant! I agree with her. Just like the flu vaccine for influenza, pneumonia vaccine for pneumonia... I can't understand why we can't accept another vaccine, all the same. Stay safe too!

I still find zombie apocalypse amusing. Wild. Praying talaga na matapos na. Also praying na ma-convince mga tao. Though i find some of their hesitations valid. Hay.

Sana na lang talaga biglang mawala na lang yun virus.

Stay safe doc!
