Howdy folks, how are you doing?
Is it just me or does it look like today has been slow on readcash? What I mean is that the activities that happened today were kinda low (published articles, Rusty's visits, engagements). In fact, rusty has been acting weird for a few days now and I noticed it in other people's articles as well.
But I don't want to focus on that for now, I guess it's just one of those rusty's episodes that tends to open once in a while. For today's article, I got the idea when I saw a post on nairaland about the popular Hollywood actor Johnny Depp winning a court case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard (a weird name, right?). Well, Amber wasn't so happy with the court's verdict, and she made a statement about it
But before we go into the intricacies of that post by Amber, let me give you the short version of what happened between the two ex-couple. Amber accused her ex-husband, Johnny Depp of domestic abuse back in 2016 and she appeared in public with a large bruise under her eye and the news went viral but johnny denied it and said the bruise was fake, but the whole thing &Γ ruined Johnny's career.
The court battle resumed again in 2019 when Johnny sued Amber because she indirectly accused him of domestic abuse and in return, Amber sued him for defamation (the case is crazy). They both accused each other of abuse but luckily for Johnny, he has audio recordings of the abuse as evidence and in one of the recordings, Amber was heard saying "Tell the world Johnny, tell them Johnny Depp, I Johnny Depp, a man, I'm a victim too of domestic violence."
To cut the story short, the court find out that Amber lied about the whole thing and the court found her guilty. Her stories of abuse had so many holes and the judge found her guilty on every charge, there were just too many inconsistencies. Even some of the witnesses she mentioned stood against her, one of them was an ex-girlfriend of Johnny and that one still said Amber was lying! (You can read the full story here)
The case finally ended with the court ordering Amber to pay johnny $15 million, while johnny was ordered to pay Amber $2 million because he was found guilty of defamation on one of the charges against him, which means Amber owes her ex-husband $13 million. But now she has come out with a statement saying she has been denied her right to speak freely. (Let me post the picture one more time).
She's obviously trying to gain the public's sympathy by using her gender as a weapon. The truth is that society is very biased when it comes to things of this nature, the man will always be blamed in this case if there was no evidence. If it was just a case involving words of mouth, Amber would have won because everyone will believe her that her ex-husband was abusing her, but it turned out she was the one doing all the abuse and then lying about it.
She was shedding tears in court while spinning her web of lies and anyone would have easily believed her and why is that? Because she's a woman and believed to be the weaker gender! But unfortunately for her, Johnny has all the evidence that showed she was lying about the whole thing, and now that she has lost the case she still doesn't have any shame but is still going around trying to play the victim card.
This case just shows that it's not always women that are the victims of a toxic relationship, men are too but most of them will rather not speak out because nobody will believe them. Now, imagine you heard this Johnny vs Amber case for the first time and both of them accused each other of abuse, who would you believe? To be honest, I would believe Amber because that's what society has painted it to be; the weaker gender is always right.
This also happens in rape cases, some women have falsely accused men of rape and after a thorough investigation, it's discovered that it's a false accusation but it's already too late for the man whose reputation is already damaged. Some men who don't have evidence to defend themselves get branded as a rapist and they end up losing everything.
Society still has a long way to go when it comes to gender discrimination. We have to learn not to take gender into account when dealing with things of this nature. Learn to see the person for who they are and not be blinded by their gender. Most people will handle a woman with a kid's glove when she commits a crime but if a man commits the same crime, they pull out the rocket launchers and tanks and are ready to spill blood.
