Does Having a College Degree Truly Matter?

April 7, 2022

Thursday

Do college degrees really matter so much in achieving goals and becoming successful in life? Does it really matter? If it does, what makes it so special then?

Hello there, traders! Hello, amazing people in the crypto world. How’s it going?

I was listening to inspirational and motivational podcasts on Spotify this afternoon while I was answering some of my activities. Listening to it really helps me get motivated in life as I was answering with my school work. After I finished with my work, a friend of mine sent me a link and it was about a guy interviewing some millionaires about how they became successful and what advice they could give to the younger generations today.

Most of their advice is all kind of related to the thought that most of them were high school and college dropouts and then became millionaires. They shared that not all dropouts end up with nothing; everything depends on skills and dedication to achieving the goals that they set for themselves.

Here is some of their advice that really catches my attention and feels like it awakens and broadens my understanding more about how to be successful in life.

Do things that build confidence.

We all know and are aware that self-confidence is one of the most important skills that a person has because it helps the person to give more strength to themselves. Building self-confidence is not that easy to achieve, especially if we are not sociable enough to interact with people. But doing things that build confidence is a great thing to do. In that way, we can figure out for ourselves what we lack confidence in. And one of the things that help boost our confidence is appreciating and looking back at our small achievements in life, no matter how big or small they are. Because if we appreciate those small achievements, it encourages us to do even better.

Take the risks and get the reward.

On taking our journey toward achieving our goals, it should always come with risks, and we must face them. Success won’t be possible without encountering failures in our lives. We should always take risks and face those challenges and life struggles on our way because we know that after that bumpy and rocky road that we walk down, awaits the reward of the paradise of our success that we’ve been dreaming of.

Hard work. Persistence

In order for us to achieve the success that we have been aiming to achieve, it always requires hard work, persistence, and dedication. You won't be successful if you’re not hard-working and dedicated enough to achieve the goal that you’ve targeted to achieve.

Slow down and enjoy being young.

This is the most important of all. We shouldn’t pressure ourselves too much, as we also need to rest. It takes time to arrive at our destinations, and there is no such thing as a shortcut toward success. We should always take our time and keep everything slow and steady. If we go fast, we won’t be able to see much more interesting stuff on our way. That is why let's keep it slow and let's enjoy everything while we’re still young.

There are answers to whether a college degree is required for success in today's society.

"Some things are required, and some things aren’t. It is no guarantee of success."

As for what I have noticed, especially in our society today, degrees aren’t that special enough to get you the position in the job that you want, especially in foreign countries where these millionaires came from. But sadly, in the place where I live, having a degree is the biggest and most precious thing that we can give to our family and to everyone. It is the greatest thing that we can flex to everyone. Because having a degree is a success for them and the fruit of all their hard work. And you already know what it feels like to be in an Asian family (Not all).

"You can still succeed without one. Experience is the big thing."

Experience truly is the big thing. Some foreign countries no longer need a degree to hire someone because what they’re up to is the skills and experience of a person if they’re suitable for the position. We all know that when applying for a job, the first thing that they will ask you is if you already have experience with the job that you applied for. And sadly, if you don’t have any experience, they won’t hire you. And that’s the sad reality. That kind of thing always happens here in my country. The funny thing is that their standards are so over the top and the job position that they offer is not even that high-level.

Yes, that's right having a degree right now really matters alot. If we have no degree we can't participate in a competitive world of opportunities. But we can do some other things that didn't requires degree. It's our ability to find strategy on how we can uplift our life.

Advantage lang kung degree holder ka is marami Kang work na pwede applyan, that is my opinion, pero marami ding successful sa Buhay na Hindi nakatapos dahil madiskarte sila. 😊

oo, big advantage din yung degree holder when it comes to applying a job position kasi mas madaling mapili. Pero with or without degree, sa hard work at skills parin talaga makikita ang lahat

While I was studying and spending my time in college, some of my school friends were working and by the time I graduated they were already in serious positions and became my superiors when I got a job.😀 It is the irony of life. A college degree never meant anything to me because I work in a position that only requires high school. College degree means only to me because of myself, because of the wider view of the world.

It matters for me. It may not be a guarantee for one to have a job but surely it has "something to say" about you. It will be your edge. Not all of us will become millionaires because of our skills and experience. Some people are just gifted. Kung walang college degree, mahirap makahanap ng magaan na trabaho. Yung may college degree nga nahihirapan pa rin maghanap ng trabaho. Yung mga billionaires na drop-out, I guess exempted sila kase gifted and passionate sila sa ginagawa nila. But now look around, most of the people are complaining while doing nothing.

Hmmm, not really. For me lang. Basta madiskarte ka, maalam makisama at masipag. Makakamit mo pa rin lahat ng naisin mo sa buhay. Di ganon kadali pero para sa pangarap diba.

For me, it's not the main ingredient for a person to become successful. Well, when we are fully educated we can acquire knowledge about many things. But, it's actually our skills that will lead us to success. We just have to find the exact thing where we are good. The degree is just a bonus. But, what's more, inspirational is that more success stories tell about drop-out of school and were able to establish their own name because of their skill and not the degree they hold.

Hmmmm here in Philippines it is important, you can have the advantage in finding a job when you are a degree holder, mas mapapadali ang buhay pag may natapos, on the other countries its about diskarte, and i love how the way they live kaso here in our town life is really hard pag wala kang maipagmamalaki

I love the thoughts you share. It is not about degree but some job requires it and some job requires it for you to be promoted. However we can still survive in life without a degree, we just need to find what we can do

Sa pilipinas yes. There is a huge advantage if you are a degree holder..

But in some other countries, only a few can get a degree and yet non-degree holders can get proper jobs.
