Since it is love month, I will summarize a timely movie that I thought of something relevant this time.
Personally, I am not really into cheesy pure romantic films. I am more of a romantic comedy film fan, only if the leading characters are the ones I know of.
This film is something I was really looking forward to watch for because it is star-studded. The cast is a mix of veterans and newbies in the film industry. With Julia Roberts, Hector Elizondo, and Kathy Bates in the film, this would be a great deal.
I just wonder how much was the budget for this film. From the cast down to the production, it is something that you should take into consideration.
The film received negative critics about it but it still became successful and hit a box office record. The budget of the movie was 52 million dollars but it grossed to a total of 216.5 million dollars. It is definitely a huge success.
I consider this movie as one of my favorites because it is just a feel-good, and happy vibes while watching. I am also familiar with all the casts so that makes me no doubt of watching it. Aside from that, the playlist was well chosen.
: Movie Plot
The film revolves around a group of related characters showing their struggles with love on Valentine's Day.
The first scene shows Reed Bennett, played by Ashton Kutcher, whose job is a florist who wakes up and waits for her girlfriend, Morley Clarkson, played by Jessica Alba, to wake up then proposes. Gladly, Morley accepts it and they are now engaged. However, Reed's best friends, Alfonso Rodriguez, played by George Lopez, and Julia Fitzpatrick, played by Jennifer Garner were doubtful and skeptical about Morley's feelings towards Reed. They have known Morley for a long time but they thought that her love towards Reed is not genuine.
On a flight to Los Angeles, Kate Hazeltine, played by Julia Roberts, whose job is a captain in the U.S Army on a one-day leave, befriends her seatmate, Holden Wilson, played by Bradley Cooper. Kate is traveling a long-distance flight to get back home only for a short period of time. In the conversation, Holden thinks that that person must be really special and she's deeply in love with him. Upon arrival, Kate had a hard time of looking for a backup as her suitcases were too many to handle. Holden offers him a ride through his limousine so she can get home as early as possible.
Julia Fitzpatrick, played by Jennifer Garner, is an elementary school teacher, who has fallen in love with a Cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Harrison Copeland, played by Patrick Dempsey. However, Julia doesn't have any knowledge about the marriage of Harrison and his wife Pamela, played by Katherine Lanasa. Harrison asks her that he needs to go to San Francisco for a business trip. Before traveling, Harrison stops by the flower shop where Reed is one of the florist, orders two flower bouquets, one for her wife, and the other one for Julia with discretion.
Reed convinces Julia that Harrison is a married man and she's just the other woman in the relationship. Despite Reed's warnings, Julia flew to San Francisco to surprise Harrison. Seeing Harrison and his wife having dinner, she dresses as a waitress and makes a scene at the restaurant making Pamela to be confused about what's happening.
Edison, played by Bryce Robinson, is one of Julia's students. He orders flowers from Reed and asks to send those flowers to his teacher Julia. Learning after what his classmate has feelings for him, he suggests giving the other flower bouquet to his classmate.
Grace Smart, played by Emma Roberts, is Edison's babysitter who's planning to lose her virginity to her boyfriend Alex, played by Carter Jenkins, on Valentine's Day to make it more special. The plan did not turn out as expected when Grace's mother went to the room of her daughter and saw Alex being naked rehearsing a song he has written for her.
Edgar Paddington, played by Hector Elizondo, and Estelle Paddington, played by Shirley MacLaine, are both grandparents of Edison. The couple a facing the trouble of a long marriage. Estelle confessed that she had an affair with one of Hector's business partners when they were younger. Estelle showed great regret but it still made Edgar very upset.
Willy Harrington, played by Taylor Lautner, and Felicia Miller, played by Taylor Swift are both Grace's high school friends who are experiencing how sweet to be in love with each other as they found themselves as new lovers. They both agreed to not have sex on Valentine's Day.
A closeted gay professional football player Sean Jackson, played by Eric Dane, is on the verge of contemplating about the end of his career with his publicist Kara Monahan, played by Jessica Biel, and his agent Paula Thomas, played by Queen Latifah. On the other hand, Kara is organizing her annual "I hate Valentine's Day" party, but soon realizes that she's falling for the sports reporter Kelvin Moore, played by Jamie Foxx. Kelvin was ordered to do Valentine's Day Report by his boss Susan Moralez, played by Kathy Bates. who shares the same hatred as Kara's of the holiday.
Liz Curran, played by Anne Hathaway, is substituting for Paula's absent secretary for an extra income, finds herself to be in love with a mail-room clerk Jason Morris, played by Topher Grace. However, when they were on a date, Jason found out that Liz is working as a phone sex operator. Liz explains to him that she has a student loan worth $100,000 to pay off. Upset, Jason decides to not see Liz anymore but his love overpowers and soon reconciles with Liz after what Edgar did to forgive Estelle.
Sean finally decides to out himself on national television, and Holden, played by Bradley Cooper, goes back to him and reunite. Kate arrives late at night kissing his son Edison who is already sleeping. Willy and Felicia dated and had dinner. Soon, WIlly drops Felicia off at her home with a huge stuffed toy and they kissed. Kara and Kelvin hang out on the news station and soon find themselves kissing each other.
Alfonso, had a great dinner with his wife, while Grace and Alex decide to wait for the right time and age of engaging in sex. Edgar forgives Estelle and they reconciled by renewing their wedding vows. Pamela left Harrison after learning about his infidelity while Morley tries to call Reed, who is falling for his best friend Julia. Meanwhile, Paula receives a call from one of Liz's masochistic clients and soon enjoys the conversation all along expressing her thoughts about dominance and sadism.
What makes me more excited about this movie is because of Taylor Swift. It is my first time seeing her in a movie acting. In fact, she showed her giggly personality. Her song Today Was a Fairytale is also featured in the last part of the movie.
