Most Nigerians on this platform will know the institution that portrays the phrase "First and the best". As a Nigerian, the first thing that ought to come to your mind, or rather the first thing that comes to your mind whenever First and the best is mentioned should be the University of Ibadan.

University of Ibadan, UI is the oldest university in Nigeria and in Africa. The University of Ibadan is the first university set up in Nigeria by the first democratically elected government

It is the first university in Nigeria to independently produce a Nobel laureate, the first university in Nigeria to achieve the First World University title and so many more firsts.

Now let us relate "First and the best" in other aspect of life.

Many people have a dream of becoming first in their life. Some of them make it and some of them don't. There are thousands of examples of people who have achieved the top by being first in something. But how did they achieve it? What are the advantages of being the first?

Becoming the first and the best in life isn't easy. There are a lot of obstacles to cross on your way to success and a lot of them you can't even imagine before. The examples of people who became first in something are also an advice for those who think that they can achieve something by dreaming only.

It takes a lot of practice, patience and hard work to become the first and the best in anything. However it is not necessary that you are born with some talent like for example to become a professional athlete or a football player. Lionel Messi and cristiano Ronaldo won't be the great players they are today if they weren't patient and hardworking.

These are the people who are born with a certain advantage over others and they do become the best in it. But then there are people who have to work really hard to become what they want. They have to face a lot of challenges and in the end they succeed and then they become the first and the best in it.

Why do we need to be the first and the best?

Becoming the first and the best in life isn't easy. It needs a lot of consistency, commitment and patience. I know it so well, because I have experienced it myself.

There may be a lot of people who have achieved what you are aiming to achieve and there may be a lot who are currently working on achieving the same goal as you. But it may also be true that none of them have achieved what you have achieved or none of them have been as consistent and persistent as you have been.

No matter what field you belong to and which position, you are trying to gain. You have to struggle a lot. People do everything to get first in any field. It doesn't matter the aspect it is in life, either sports, education or business, becoming the first and the best isn't easy task.

Achieving the top spot and being the first from all others isn't easy as it seems. Being the first and the best in life isn't easy. No matter who you are and what you do, you'll have to face challenges that others don't. But what happens if we forget this truth?

What if we not only stop dreaming big but start telling ourselves that we're not good enough to be the first in something?
