Every Saturday, I have this habit that I always stay up late. I will do anything that comes to my mind, like reading Ebooks, watching Tiktok, watching Movies or series on Netflix, browsing social media, revising or revisiting my plans, or anything that will help me to stay until 4 in the morning. IT is expected that on the next day, I will be waking up at 9 to 11 in the morning. I don’t want to sleep early. Even if I feel tired sometimes, and my eyes are shutting down, I don’t want to sleep. There is always something that I will do to stay up late.
Before you stay up late, I want you to know my Amazing sponsor that serves as my inspiration and supporter. You can visit their articles too to know them more.
It becomes a habit. Even during Sunday, when I am not working at my other jobs, instead of sleeping early to prepare myself for Monday, I will still stay up late, fixing my bag, preparing my uniform, watching movies, watching television with my family, eating, and eating, cleaning my face, until I don’t notice that it is 1 in the morning. I still don’t feel tired sometimes. My mother is still awake too during that time and she does everything. I guess I got it from her. I wonder what it is called and I found the answer at Tiktok.
Why it is called Revenge Bedtime Procrastination
Without searching for its meaning on Google, in my own experience, I think the meaning is, I don’t want to sleep early because I don’t want to end my day. That is the real reason for me, but here it goes when I searched it on Google.
Revenge Bedtime Procrastination means you do what you fail to do during the day and you do it during the night. Most people find solace when they are doing what they want to do during the night for the reason that there is less noise and some of the people around them are sleeping. Sometimes, there are things you failed to do during the daytime that needs to be done, so you schedule it on the time that you can focus on it to get it done.
I, for example, have my freedom during the night. I am a nocturnal type of person. My brain works during the night. From 10 in the evening, there are lots of ideas getting out of my brain. I have to get a notebook and pen to write it down. During midnight, in the middle of me working on nightshifts, I am revisiting my plans and revising them. My brain keeps on thinking and thinking. Even if I will lie down in bed, it becomes a habit that I will stay awake and think. That is the reason why I will just get my phone and start browsing or watching.
I want a long day. From my waking up hours of 7 in the morning, regularly, I want to stay up late to make it long. I want that 16 hours of waking up to be 20 hours, and I don’t invite you to that, although I know it has become a habit of most of you too.
The Results of Revenge Bedtime Procrastination
Since I am depriving myself of sleep and well rest, I get so many issues with my health, especially with my mental health. It causes anxiety, stress, depression, high blood pressure, gaining weight, weak immunity, and problems with concentration and memory. People who are always lacking sleep, like me, always feel irritated.
What do you need to solve this?
I am not willing to solve this.
Nope, of course, I know that lots of you are doing this too and I advise you that when it becomes a habit, it is not good for your health. You need to have a well-rested mind and body to perform your task the next day. You will not be the best version of yourself the next day if you will not start to break this habit. What do you need to do?
Since you have lots of activities during the night, schedule your activities. You can still stay up late, but not to the fact that you will stay up to 4 in the morning. The very late is 11 in the evening that is what they advise an adult could stay up late.
Make a habit of using your gadgets for up to an hour, considering you had done lots of nighttime routine at home like housekeeping, washing the dishes, dinner, taking care of kids or pets, or watching television, and you still use your gadgets, try to minimize the use. If before you are using it for 3 hours, make it 1 hour. Shorten the use of gadgets can help your eyes to minimize the light emitted.
Be discipline to make a bedtime schedule. Some people have had random times sleeping since the habit was formed. Try making a habit where you set the timer and when it buzz, start shutting your eyes and free your mind to doze off. Try to do it until it will become a habit.
For sure your health will benefit from this. If you still want to have sleep procrastination, you set it in a day, like Saturday night or Friday night, or both of those days. It is wrong to do it every day unless what you are doing by staying late can’t be done the next day.
This topic has been bugging me for a week now. I kept telling to myself why not do a topic since I am doing this every Saturday. It is given that I stay up until 4:30 in the morning because of my other jobs (night shift), I have work responsibilities, yet during the time that I should be resting I am doing this. I am doing Revenge Bedtime Procrastination. Do not be like me!

I'm guilty of this also. I do this most especially when I'm sad. But at daytime when I feel stressed as early as 9:30, I would promise to sleep early at night
