My brain cells are caught in a traffic jam. I don't know where in the world of my mind are they, so let me join in one of the life-savers of authors here, the #PromptFactory.
There is a story you may want to read about. Once upon a time, there was a poor girl, her name was Cindy, who used to have a happy and satisfying life, until her good father died, and she was left with her evil stepmom, and two step sisters who are just as evil as their mom.
She became the servant of her own house. She cleans the floors, prepares the foods, does the laundry, and even sleeps at the dirty attic, while the wicked trio lived comfortably as her masters.
Despite being treated like sht, Cindy did not leave the house. In her mind, it was hers, and behind the scenes, she works on legal matters to reclaim her dad's property, and drive the three women away. She even dreams of bringing all of them to prison, with her own hands.
So, whenever she goes shopping for supplies, she also secretly meets up with a known lawyer in the town, her father's close friend, and the only one who knows about her situation.
On a sunny day, there has been an announcement of a ball prepared by the king of the nation, for they are in search of the future queen. The prince shall choose from all the women who attends the ball.
Elated, the evil stepmother, Karen, immediately had her daughters, Maritess and Susan, prepare as early as possible. Meanwhile, Cindy knew it was the best opportunity to get a nice position in the palace, like an attendant or something. She heard that job pays well. For her surprise, Karen strongly disapproved of her willingness to go to the ball. They really thought she's excited because of the prince, even she has a different purpose. Cindy got really sad and angry inside. And that anger made her think of a plan.
She sent a letter to her godmother about her plan of sneaking into the palace. She emphasized that it won't take long.
The night has come, and the wicked trio left home to go the palace. Cindy was walking back and forth the porch, waiting for her dear godmother.
All of a sudden, a bright light engulfed the whole place, and before she could blink, what met her eyes was her godmother on all her majesty, wearing a silky dress, and instead of the gray hair, it was suddenly a bright red, and her godmother definitely looked younger!
What made her even speechless was that strange wand she held, as it sparkles whenevet the lady moved her hand.
It only took two minutes of a rushed explanation before Cindy believed that indeed, fairy exists. She even asked the fairy where to find more fairy friends, to which the godmother answered with a frown. She said she was just kidding.
To make things simple, magic worked out that Cindy was now in a beautiful night gown, carried into a majestic ride into the palace. Cindy has never been so excited.
While walking in a rush inside, the prince caught Cindy standing out in the whole place, while he was staring from above. Cindy runs and her lack of usual poise caught the prince's interest, alongside her crystal shoes that stood out especially when light shines on it. Felix, that's his name, unconsciously smiled at the sight.
After a few minutes, the dance started. Cindy was startled by someone approaching her. It was Prince Felix. Cindy had the most beautiful smile, knowing she did not have to look for him anymore.
While they danced, Cindy laid out her reasons as to why she deserves to be an attendant of the palace, to which Felix listened with full focus. Here and there, he threw out some clean jokes that always caught Cindy off guard, and she laughed a lot. The dance was only for ten minutes, but it seemed like an hour for the both of them who enjoyed talking about a lot of things.
11:59 p.m. Cindy remembers her godmother's warning to never exceed 12 a.m. for she'd transform back to her old form. By the time the clock struck twelve, she said a rushed farewell to the then confused prince who even tried to run after her in the long stairs onto the main gate.
While running, Cindy tripped into one of the stairs and she almost fell. She quickly regained her balance and ran home safely. She was thankful those glass shoes of hers are still intact with that amount of running she did.
Cindy was amazed by the fairy's attention to details. She made the shoes perfectly fit for Cindy's feet, so losing any shoe was the least of her worries. If a shoe fits perfectly, it won't slip away.
News spread in the town that Prince Felix was looking for a certain Cindy, with sparkling shoes. It's funny to be told in a modern setup, but that's how he really ordered the news to be sent to everyone.
Cindy knows this, but she did not show up. She even hid her shoes, so her evil step mom and step sisters won't suspect how she actually joined the ball recently. She was just confused as to why Felix is looking for her, when she even put a clue in his pocket before she ran away. The note contains the address, and her current situation.
Like a miracle, Felix finally noticed a note inside the pocket of his outer shirt when a servant handed it to him. He was surprised. He could not believe it at first, a rich looking beautiful lady that night was actually a poor girl maltreated by jer step family in her own house.
The prince immediately went to the place stated in the note. He and the soldiers did some investigation, and of course, they saw Cindy sweeping the dirty floor, wearing ragged clothes. It was the moment she waited for so long.
Instantly, the trio was proven guilty and were ordered to be imprisoned. On the other hand, Cindy almost finished the land and properties transfer to her name, thanks to the help of her father's lawyer friend, and the help of Felix as well.
After all the issues were fixed, Felix asked for Cindy's hand in marriage. To his surprise, Cindy did not hesitate to say No. She believed that they should have more time to get to know each other first. Like the ideal kind of relationship, Felix courted her, and only married her after four years of knowing each other.
Later, Cindy made her old house a business place, and it became successful. She also became one of the kingdom's smartest queens ever.
Felix and Cindy lived happily ever after.
How was it?
It ain't your normal Cinderella story. Not all princesses look for a prince. Others have their better priorities before settling in marriage.
This is my entry to @meitanteikudo 's old prompt. It's about sharing a fairy tale story, but tweaking the ending. I got excited and altered a majority of the plot, LOL. I made it realistic and a bit modern.
