Are you a materialistic person who loves to acquire a lot of tangible things? Do you enjoy buying the things you want to possess even if it's too expensive? Is it hard for you to give up these material possessions you have? Are you willing to go the extra mile and do even the illegal actions just to attain what you want?
I just watched Mr. Queen, a romantic comedy and historical Korean drama series, which has imparted a lesson about not being too materialistic and sharing what you have with others who need it more than you do.
Kim So Young, the Queen in the drama, taught her father to remove the greed in his heart by stopping him to do his wicked activities and letting him give away all of his material possessions to the people so that his life will be spared amongst the corrupt politicians in the palace.
Mr. Kim said, "It's not like I can take all this wealth to the grave with me."
It was hard for him at first to give up all of the material things he has because he spent his entire life accumulating all of them. He even admitted that having a lot of those things makes him happy and knowing that he has to give them all up for the safety of his life, it feels like he is making a huge sacrifice.
But he was able to do it. He learned his lesson, walked away from doing corrupt actions, and found joy in giving away and sharing his blessings with others. He was able to live his life by just having enough and not too many things. His life was protected by the people who helped him when the bandits attacked their place because he made a good deed to them.
"What you give, you shall receive."
When we willingly share our blessings with others and do good deeds to them, we will receive what we gave and even a hundredfold more of what we offered.
In the case of Mr. Kim, he received protection from the people even if all he did was give them the material things he had. If only he kept those tangible possessions he had, he would have also been harmed or worst killed by the bandits because those things won't be able to defend him.
Sometimes, we are like Mr. Kim. We become so addicted to acquiring so many material things and even money just so we can say that we have more. We sometimes think that having a lot of branded collections, from shoes, bags, and clothes, and having a huge amount of money in our savings account means that we are winning in life and that these will bring us genuine happiness.
We become so greedy with the things we have that everything just isn't enough for us. We will be craving to have more and more because we want to own a lot. While there are other people who don't even have a fraction of what we have.
While accumulating more, sometimes, we lose ourselves in the process. We tend to forget that the wealth we have is not the most important thing in life. That these things won't be able to protect us in times of danger. We lose ourselves when we start taking advantage of others only for our self-gain and interest.
There's actually nothing wrong with wanting to have a better and more comfortable life that's why we are working hard every day to get to buy the things we need and want. But what's wrong is when we become crooked just to achieve this goal.
We should not forget that we won't be able to bring the things we have into our graves once we are already dead. All these things will become meaningless when we are already on our deathbed.
So while we are alive, let's make use of our richness to bring goodness not just to ourselves but also to the people special to us like our parents, friends, and even to those we don't personally know. Let's stop taking advantage of other people just to get what we want in life.
I am very happy to discuss this topic that you provide. it is true that every human being has a tendency to accumulate wealth and money while living in this mortal world. I have a real example that happened, in my area there is a rich person who accumulates abundant wealth and lives alone, when he dies, who can inherit that wealth?? with this story it can be concluded that it is futile to try to collect a lot of material when we will be called by God. Be wise in navigating life because we will never know, the last time we live in this world.
