I don't know why I'm so preoccupied with the idea of putting up a Piggery Business nowadays. Perhaps, it's because I am just excited about this journey and the outcome of this business venture if it will be successful or not. Maybe, you'll get to read more about pigs in the next couple of weeks and months to give you an update on this endeavor since Bitcoin Cash is a part of this journey.
Anyway, in this article, I'm going to share with you the Pros and Cons of putting up and managing your own Piggery Business. These are the things I have learned as I was looking deeper into it and it's also based on what I have observed.
Perhaps, some of you are also thinking of starting up this kind of undertaking so this will help you decide if you will want to go for it or just go for other things.
Pros of a Piggery Business:
1. Profitable
Since the price of pork meat is becoming more expensive, the price of live pigs when bought by dealers becomes expensive as well, which means there is a large potential profit to be earned when engaged in this business.
According to my mother, a pig that she got to raise for only 2 months could be sold for about 10,000 pesos ($200) or more already. So out of her almost 5,250 pesos ($105) expenses for buying the piglet and some feeds for it to eat, she got to earn around 4,750 pesos ($95), which is not that bad of a profit. So how much more if you could raise and grow more piglets at the same time.
2. Fast Return on Investment
For other types of traditional business, it will take months or even years before you could recoup your initial capital and gain some profits from it. However, with this kind of business, it will only take you around 2 to 3 months until you could get back the money you have invested and also reap some earnings from it since pigs are just easy to grow.
3. High Demand
We all love eating pork (aside from those who aren't allowed to eat one) because of how savory the meat is. Samgyupsal, Lechon, Pork Adobo, and Pork Chop are only some of the recipes for how we would like to eat meat pork. And this means that there is a high demand for pigs now since it is one of the main food products that people buy in the market.
4. Easy to Raise
Raising pigs is not that difficult since all you have to do is to give them food for them to grow and also clean their pens for them to have a neat house. You don't have to guard them all day, especially when their cages are stable for them.
I remember my mother used to say that raising pigs is even better than raising children who don't know how to help in doing household chores and who are only good at eating because, after 2 to 3 months, they can already sell the pigs when they've grown already, while they can't sell the children. Lols!
Cons of a Piggery Business:
1. Smelly and Noisy
We all know that pigs stink and they have a bad smell because of their poop or waste so it's really not a good business for those who are finicky (maarte). This is why it is recommended to put up a pigpen that is far from the houses to avoid conflicts with your neighbors because of their smell. They are also sometimes noisy, especially when they are hungry already. But there is a solution to this and that is to make sure that they are always full so that they won't have to make a sound anymore that will bother the whole neighborhood.
2. Expensive Feeds Prices
Since the price of pigs and meat pork became expensive, the price of commercial feeds became costly as well. This is one of the main expenses in putting up a piggery so it is also a must to find worthy and high-quality feeds.
However, there is also one way to lessen the expenses of buying feeds and that is to mix their feeds with cooked giant taro, which can be easily planted in your backyard or by the mountains. Although it takes a lot of work to do because you still have to chop it and cook it, the work will probably be worth it since you get to save money for buying feeds and the pigs get nutrition from it too.
In any kind of business, there will always be pros and cons in it, and for the Piggery business, it is evident that there are more pros than the cons so it's really a good business venture to embark on.
Only a few are engaged in the piggery business in my country and I'm sure that they are gaining it big.
