What have you been doing good for your body? Or do you even care about your health?
Do you eat a healthy, balanced diet every day? Do you give yourself 1 hour or even 30 minutes to have a simple workout to stretch your body? Do you step back and move away from social media or anything that gives you stress just to give way to your mental health? Do you give yourself enough time to recharge or sleep?
These questions are not just for me, but for you to answer too. These questions that we often hear have a huge impact on our lives. Of course, it is because, as cliche as it sounds, "Health is Wealth".
Sometimes, we get so busy trying to make a lot of money that we overlook the condition of our health. We skip breakfasts, lunch, and even dinner. Sometimes, we also trade off the time to sleep and rest just to do unnecessary things, just like staying up late at night only to browse your social media apps or to play online games.
In choosing between Health and Money, our health should always comes first because if we are not healthy, those money we worked so hard on in our bank accounts will just be wasted if we get sick. But then, it's still better to balance things out so that we can actually enjoy living our lives to the fullest.
Being healthy is not just consist of our physical condition, but also the state of our emotional health, spiritual health, mental health, and social health.
On Physical Health
The nutritious food we eat, the time we allot for sleep and rest, and the time we give to our body to do simple workouts or exercise have an impact to our physical health. Having a strong physical body is important for us to be able to get things done and to do vigorous activities.
As for me, I do eat, a lot actually, but I don't think I'm feeding myself with nutritious food. I have been fond of eating junk food and snack lately that it would be enough as my lunch or dinner. However, it's not giving benefits to my body and health. I also tried to get back with Keto Diet about 3 months ago, but I'm always cheating so I decided to get back with having rice already.
I have also been sleeping late at night, until midnight, that gives me only 6 to 7 hours of sleep. Others would say that's already enough but to me, it isn't. I need to complete 8 hours of sleep so I don't be sleepy in the afternoon. It's also been a while when I had an exercise. I just feel lazy whenever I plan to do so, and I need to do something about it.
Our physical body is an asset to us that we should learn to take good care of. It's like a car that deteriorates over time if it is not maintained properly.
On Mental & Emotional Health
The way we think and feel also determine if we are healthy or not. If we are not mentally and emotionally healthy, that's the time when our minds and hearts are covered with dark thoughts, and stress and depression will try to win our souls over and take over our bodies.
We would sometimes feel that we are alone, nobody cares for us, and a heavy baggage is passed on our shoulders. We become emotional even with the slightest of things, and when we encounter difficult problems, we would think that ending our lives will solve everything.
When we are mentally exhausted because of a lot of academic activities, work stuff, family problems, and financial struggles, we would lose our focus and be burnt out.
I sometimes become emotional when I'm stressed due to a lot of things, but I have learned and still learning to control it. I have heard before that "10% is what happens to us, and 90% is how we deal with it." We can't control the things that happens to us, but what we can control is our attitude towards it.
On Social and Spiritual Health
"No man is an island." Humans are social beings and we need other people to survive. No matter how independent you are, you will still be needing others for whatever reason there may be.
We also need other people to test how spiritually matured we are. We need them to test how long our patience is, and to see if we are becoming a better person.
I always say that I am an introvert and socializing is not my cup of tea. I would rather stay at home and watch a movie, than go out of my den just to talk with other people, although I also hang out with my friends sometimes. This is why I'm having a hard time to become more mature and be a better version of myself because I avoid humans. It seems like I have a human allergy. Lol But then, we can't always be avoiding others no matter how much we want to because we all need each other.
Bottom Line
No matter how physically strong you seem you are on the outside, if you are not as healthy on the inside, your overall health and well-being might still be at risk. Our mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health is just as important as our physical health. So always take good care of your body, mind, and soul, because Health is our Ultimate wealth.
Yeah, much recently I also got allergic to people, hahaha kidding. But I mean because of the pandemic my introvert self also got happy. However since we are indeed not islands we have to interact with others so it's good to be around various people too from time to time even if we are introverts.
