Eighteen thousand pesos water bill for the month of June.
That was from my neighbor’s water consumption last month and she was complaining. My neighbor has a sari-sari store and it is located separately from her house. It has a separate meter for both electric and water system.
I heard her talking to another neighbor about the sudden rise of her water consumption at her store alone last month. Her water system in the store was not even used for laundry and showers so she was shocked when the bill arrived.
In my previous post, I have shared with you some information about our power consumption at home. You might hear your parents or wife complaining about the electric bill or water bill when it just rises up all of a sudden.
Today I will share with you part two of “Making Life A Little Less Complicated”.
Seasons come and seasons go
Seasons change and this is one factor that affects the rising and falling of power consumption at home. During summer, it is more likely that your electric bill will be higher than during the cold season. There will be excessive use of ventilation and air conditioning due to more heat the sun generates.
On the other hand, your water bill will increase as well due to multiple times of taking a shower per day, drinking too much water and changing clothes of kids from time to time. This is due to frequent perspiration that turned out to be more clothes for laundry.
During the heat season, I tend to take a shower two to three times a day. So there is a tendency that our water bill is higher during summer. We don’t have air conditioning at home, only ventilations and ceiling fans, you know those fans that can be bought on the streets. They are energy efficient and safe.
Perhaps you have always heard of slogans in advertisements regarding water conservation. We all know that the earth is covered mostly with water. Twenty-five per cent land and seventy-five percent water. So where is the logic of conserving water?
It is more likely to have an earth filled water due to the majority of its part being water. But anyway what environmentalists wanted to emphasize was the conservation of drinking water.
Life hacks
Our monthly water bill is always at a lower consumption that would be around 10 to 15 cubic meters and would sum up to 500 to 600 pesos based on the landlord's computation. Pretty much low, huh? There are six members in the household with only two kids. Take note that kids consume a lot of water when they take a bath.
How did I maintain the low water consumption at home? No, there is nothing illegal here, it’s only a matter of wise and easy living.
So I’m going to share it with you because these tips have been shared with me too. It doesn’t matter if you agree or not but I have been using this tip for decades and It has been very helpful and effective.
I have learned this technique from my grade school teacher. Credits goes to her.
If you are living in the Philippines and suffering from high monthly water bills, perhaps you may want to try this tip. Unless there is a leak in your water pipes or someone tapped into your water system, otherwise you will always be paying a high water bill. I’m not sure if other countries have a high price regarding water consumption. You can also try this technique if you want.
You must know that, what makes the water meter count is the water pressure. The more pressure runs through the meter the faster the counter will spin. You will notice that when you open the faucet in full, the water is coming out fast due to high water pressure.
Try to open it slowly so that only droplets will come out, then see check your meter. Surprise! It doesn’t spin. Try this overnight in your wash room, make sure you have a big drum container and see the result. Open your faucet just enough to make continuous fast droplets coming out of the faucet, then check your meter. If it still spins, try adjusting again your faucets control. For sure it will not spin but droplets will come out. If you do this overnight, you can make 50 liters or more without having your meter spin a single rotation.
If it doesn’t make sense to you, try lowering the pressure in your meter’s control. Note that it is not only water pressure that makes the meter spin, there is also air, and we are not supposed to be paying for air, it is free.
I have shared this technique to my mother and she shares it to her relatives. They were happy with the result.
I have been doing this technique from the time it was shared to us by our science teacher until today and it really works.
Try it. The best things in life are free.

Kami reading namin nagrrange mga 20+ per month. Tipid na tipid na yun kasi every othet day maligo. Hahaha. Ang mahal kasi ni Maynilad unlike kay Manila Waters mura lang. Nacompare kasi namin noon yung sa Kuya ko na madami sila sa household tapos everyday pa naliligo tapos ang water bill nila nasa 2k. Eh kami every other day na nga lang nasa Php800-900. Hahaha. Mahina water pressure na yun at walang mga leaks. Di ko alam bakit mahal si Maynilad. Pero ok na din kasi noon na nagkawater shortage, hindi kami apektado dahil si Manila Waters yun ang nagkaproblema.
With 75% water and 25% land, ayun baka hindi na 75% water kasi sabi ng iba is because of global warming and climate change ay unti-unti na nababawasan or natutuyo ang water. Kaya yung yelo ay natutunaw na kaya skinny na mga polar bear. 😔
