Do you have a hard time saying NO?
As social beings, we are driven to preserve our relationships and so it can be difficult to let people down even if it is the right thing for you.
Read the steps below to understand why it's hard to say no, and how you can learn to do it without feeling guilty...
1.plan out your 'NO's ahed of your time...
It can be difficult to tell someone no in the moment. You can struggle to say no because you fear facing peopleโs disappointment. So, plan in your head what would u say, if u have to say no to a person, so that your NO is accepted normally ,and no one is hurt.. U can ask people to text or email you their request so you can get back to them.
Once they send you a follow-up, it is much easier to send them a polite reply saying that youโre UNABLE to agree to their request...
2.Use the word..
Not, โNot at this timeโ, not โI donโt think soโ, not โIโm not sureโ, not โMaybe next timeโ. The word NO is a powerful thing. Use it if you are absolutely, unequivocally sure that there is no other answer. And donโt apologise for saying it. If need be, practise saying the word until it loses its power over you.
3.Or a firm but polite alternative..
I appreciate your time, but no thank you.
Thanks for thinking of me, but I have too much on my plate right now.
No thanks!
Not today, thanks.
Not for me, thanks.
Iโm afraid I canโt.
Iโm not really into [heavy metal/decoupage/Pokemon Go], but thanks for asking!
Iโd rather not, thanks.
I think Iโll pass.
4. Dont 'FAKE' it..
This goes for family, friends, or even your boss. You donโt have to have an elaborately fabricated ruse โ just say you donโt want to. If you donโt want to go to an event because youโve had a rough week and youโd rather sit in bed watching Netflix โ then say so. Donโt invent an ailing grandmother because you think it makes your excuse more palatable.
5.Dont go on and on.....
In some cases, itโs best not to elaborate. If you justify your โnoโ too much, it can seem like youโre lying โ or worse still, it can allow the asker to find a workaround to try and make you say yes....
Sometimes no can save life.
