"Quiet on the Set.!" (Short Story) Last summer I visited my Uncle Peter.The public relations firm he works for was handling the ads for an upcoming movie,and he took me to watch a shoot. **Let's go and meet the A.D.**"Uncle Peter said when we got to the studio. **You meet an AD**? "I asked,a little confused. "Oh,sorry.That's the Assistant Director," he laughed."You get so used to the jargon on the set that you figure everyone else knows it." The **A.D** whose name was Sharie,pointed out that "the **D.P** is using a dolly to track some actors running a scene." I guess I looked confused because she smiled. "He's the director of photography,or cinemagtographer.,around here we just call him the D.P.He runs the camera,it's his job to get the best shot every time."Sharie explained while pointing the D.P. "**And the camera's on a dolly.**?" I saw a platform on wheels like that at my dad's store.It's on tracks,like train,Is it alwaya there? I asked with curiosity. "No.we move them after the D.P gets the final shot." she replied. Just then,someone called loudly,"**Where's the gaffer**? We need a blue gel.And can someone just close the barn door on that one? he called pointing up. "**Sshh.They need an electrician**,"Uncle Peter whispered." They want a blue filter over the light.,blue light is softer,not harsh." "**Got it.**" I replied."But,what's a barn door?" Sharie pointed up at the huge lights."See the flaps on the front of the light? They can be opened or closed to give more or less light.We call them barn doors." **"That's silly;why not just call them flaps?**" I thought and said it to myself. Later,I saw two actors filming a sword fight in front of a green wall. "**Without scenery,how will anyone know if they're in a castle or a cliff?** I asked Sharie again. **"That's where C.G.I comes in,"** she explained."The action is filmed in front of a blue or green screen,then computer-generated image is dropped in for background. It'll make them look like they're duelling a top of a mountain with Hall and buildings below,or what ever filmakers want. "**So if I see an actor riding a camel in a dessert,is he really doing it**.? I asked. "Sometimes,"Sharie replied."Some films are shot on location at different spots around the world.But it costs less use blue screen and C.G.I.,so its up to filmakers and depending on their budgeto.They may want "Movie Magic." "**We need background people for the next scene**,"someone called Sharie. She nodded."Time for me to make sure the people you may know as "extras or bit player "are in place,"she confided."They're ones who give the scene a sense of reality, folks walking down a street or shopping in a mall as the stars do their thing." After lunch,I watched more filming. **"QUIET ON THE SET."** someone shouted. **"ROLLING ACTION"** They background people began to move,then into the scene rode the hero,the star of the movie,on a real motorcycle.No green screen needed.! Child with Single-Parent No doubt most people would prefer to be with both their mother and father. If their parents are together in raising children, it is better to guide, protect, support and give them a good life. Mummy:Facts Recently these days, we saw a video and photos somewhere in Egypt that has uncovered a mysterious collection of coffins thought to contain human mummies that have been sealed inside for more than 2,500 years. The 13 unopened coffins, which were found piled on top of each other in a well nearly 40 feet (12 meters) deep are so well preserved that the original detailed designs and colors are clearly visible. Archeologists who made the discovery at Saqqara, an ancient site that lies about 20 miles south of Egypt's capital and is also home to landmarks including the Step Pyramid, believed to be the world's oldest, are expected to make more discoveries at the site in coming days. We know that a mummy isn't like those scary things we see in horror movies and museum, it just a dead body that was treated so it wouldn't rot away. The Egyptians were experts at wrapping their dead for the trip to the afterlife.That's what the people called the 'place' they'd go after they died,where they believed they'd enjoy pretty much comforts of life.So they figured it was important to keep their bodies preserved for the future use. Making a mummy was no easy job experts says.It took about 70 days.Only special people are allowed to carry out the process. First,they cleaned the body.Then they removed most of the internal organs including brain.They pulled that out with a hooked instrument inserted through the dead persons nose.The Egyptians didn't think the brain was important so they threw it away.The lungs,stomach and the most of their organs were removed through slits in the skin,then placed in a special comtainers called 'canopic jars' and buried with the mummy. Because the Egyptians believed the heart was the center of intelligence only it was left inside the body. Next,the body was stuffed and covered with salt to slowly suck out all the fluid.After 40 days,the shrunken body was rubbed with lotion to soften the skin.Then the body was wrapped in up to 20 layers of them. Gooey tree sap was spread on the linen to make the layer stick together.The workers placed a mask on the face that looked pretty much like the dead person.That was to help the person's spirit recognize him or her in the afterlife and re-enter the body. Then,one last year of tree sap and cloth was a mummy.Finally it was ready to be put in a stone coffin and placed in a burial chamber along with clothing,food,furniture,toys,jewelry and any other things. Normally kangaroos are **quadrupeds**,they use all four feet to walk.Even their short limbs,like arms help them move.But animals stand on two feet when they want to move quickly.They can hop up to (40 miles-64 km) per hour over short distances and leap over (30 feet-9.2 m) in a single bound. About 130 million years ago,Gondwanaland broke apart and Australia was cut from the rest of the world.Marsupials and Monotremes still flourished there. Things to consider in SPORT. Do you love sport? **SPORT** is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Sometimes sport is the way for most people to have fun or enjoy. For others it is considered an occupation or career in life that needs to prove to be good in that field. I guess we have idols or admired personalities who are good on sport and others also want to reach and achieve where they are now and what they are achieving. But others have different kinds of opinion about participating in sport. It is true that sport is a type of exercise that improves the body to be fit. Like popular sports marathon, basketball, volleyball and so on. But we also know that there are sports that are extremely dangerous to the human body, such as boxing, wrestling and mixed martial arts and other types of sports related to pain or physical interaction. **But what exactly should be considered when entering or participating in a sport?** ***Here are three suggestions and questions to consider about sport...*** ****How dangerous is this sport?**** Perhaps others say that it is fun to sport or participate in it. But always remember that preparation will always be a big help. Provide information and knowledge about the sport. Proper precautions and accident prevention in the game.Safety equipment of the player to avoid serious injury or the worst is death. **Is sport a good influence on me?** If you are good or good at that sport, your friends or family will probably entice you to join a team or tournament.Others have spend much time on team for the competition they are preparing for. And forcing others to practice more to improve. Sometimes you have teammates that doesn't like you and do not believe in your abilities and insult you down. That offends others.And when being loss are pointing to who was made fault and wrong move.That leads on losing your self confidence in that sport. So we should think about what would be the effect on participating in said sport and its influence in our lives. **How much money and time will you spend on this sport?** Some teams are lucky if they have a sponsor or fund. But most sports teams experience stress for sports due to lack of funds to be used to keep the team strong. And sometimes just spend their own money on it. Also think of the time that will be wasted if the team or sport you join is not successful or has no potential, you better just spend time to important things such as studying or earning for a living.
