Photoblog: Ride to Eat
When me and my partner met with a friend to go find one of the best places in town that serves great tasting chicken, we failed to try how best is that chicken is. Instead, we headed to another restaurant. I thought we can walk to get there but it was less than a kilometer away so we had to take a ride. I for one was willing to walk though but I didn't. It was a hot day.
As we are nearing the place, it became clear to me that it was the former Takai Yama. I wrote a blog about this 4 years ago in Steemit. You can check that here. I'm not sure if how often we have been there back when it was still Takai Yama. I didn't realize the business closed down and now taken over by Ride to Eat.
When we got there, there were two other customers occupying one table. They were almost done by then and soon after they left so we have the place all by ourselves. The staff greeted us politely and assisted us to our table. Once we are seated, one of the staff handed the menu. Our friend had been there a couple of times and this is our first time to come here under the new business.
I do like what they have done with the place. There are a lot of flowering plants especially different kinds of hibiscus decorating the premises which are a nice touch. This is one of the old houses that have been converted into business establishment. This is a common trend here in the city and I guess in other places too where the owners no longer have a use of the house for they may be living some place else.
Although the walls have been painted differently, it still has a pleasant atmosphere for a lot of natural light illuminates the place. You can actually turn off the lights and the place is still brightly lit.
There's now a place for a band to set and entertain the guests but at that time nobody was playing. You can also see in the background the view of some parts of Baguio and Mt. Cabuyao and Sto. Tomas.
It was an eat-all-you-can buffet style. One can go for all meat with free ice cream or meat with unli wings and milk tea. You can also opt for unli wings and unli milk tea alone. We opted for all meat (with free ice cream) which costs PHP499.00 (around USD10.00) per head. I'm not in the mood for unli wings that time and I'm not a fan of milk tea either so why spend more.
There were different kinds of side dishes that you can choose from.
There are egg rolls, dumplings, chicken skin, shanghai rolls, kimchi, kimbop, potato balls, spam, hotdog, bacon rolls and so much more. However, most of the fried food are not that fresh. I did eat a piece of two of some of those but I focused on the meat. There are barbecue flavored, spicy and plain and tried them all.
However, I was not able to take photos anymore once we got busy cooking. Oil and grease are flying everywhere so better keep your phone safe from all that. I'm not a fan of the rectangular pan that they used for the heat is not that evenly spread unlike the round one.
I don't know much I ate but I surely did eat a lot. I had to make the most of what I paid for lol!
I think this is a general policy in eat-all-you-can restaurants. No food is left behind. That's why get only what you can be sure to consume.
What I remember when this was Takai Yama before is that behind the fireplace is where they prepare the sushi rolls. Now, they have cleared that out and placed the buffet area there.
Wall decor such as this along with photos of Harleys and other bikes can be seen throughout. It is living up to its name of Ride to Eat. I'm not so sure about the chair by the fireplace though. Maybe to celebrate the flower festival that's why they placed that there.
Also, the tables are wobbly for the legs are uneven. Good thing it does not interfere with our eating. The seats are comfortable enough but there are no back rests so one must be mindful about that.
This is a place where you can enjoy food and time with friends away from the noise of the city. I will surely keep this in mind and would come here again if the urge arises.
There are lots of jeepneys and taxis that passes this area so there is no worry about transportation. I didn't ask if they accept cards or other form of payment other than cash.
Come and visit Ride to Eat whenever you are in the city.
