Do You Know Where You're Going To?
Adventure is out there!
Murakamii.7 wrote about her first trip being away from home which made her sad. I commented in there that separation is hard to deal with especially if it's your first time being away from those you love. https://read.cash/@Murakamii.7/plan-gone-wrong-a8fcb7f2 This takes me back to when I was young. I think it started with spending weekends or vacations with my maternal grandparents. They live a few distance away and it only takes about 15-20 minutes travel. There were times they will bring me with them to the farm but most of the time I was left alone. What better to do but explore. Kids would invite me to play with them. I was told by my parents to not go to the river since I don't know how to swim and not to play along the road. I would always say yes but in my mind I am already planning to go meet my friends and play. I would lock the house and leave the key where we usually place it and run I go. We would go to the river but since I am a good boy and I don't want to anger my grandparents, I am content with staying in the shallows and hunt for crabs or small fish. What I most remember was picking up nails or anything metal beside the road and we would sell that the junk shop. Instant money! We would go buy to the nearest store and enjoy the fruits of our labor. In school, I was introduced to city tours and camping. Another reason to stay away from home and explore. Maybe around third or fourth grade (I was about 9 or 10), my aunt took me to their province. I spent a memorable week there. She will take me to the rice fields and we would walk along the river to get there. There were waterfalls along the way too which makes the hike a delight. One waterfall is dangerous for the pool is dangerous. Although it's not that big a waterfall or wide the pool, but the force of the water is strong and there is a hole somewhere that you can be trapped in. It was said that a Japanese dived one summer when the water was low and explored the pool. That's how they found out that those who drowned there were trapped in that hole. One of the kids next door befriended me right away and sort of became my buddy that weekend. He was very nice and introduced me to some kids too. What made that visit memorable was my experience climbing a mango tree. My playmates wanted to climb the tree. I watched how some of them climbed it easily. I can do it too! On my attempt, I slipped when I was about some feet up the tree. I fell and on my way down, a nail sticking out (where did that nail came from?) caught my new shirt and ripped it open. Not only that but it cut through my chest down to my abdomen and ended a tiny fraction from my navel. I can't imagine what would have happened if the head of the nail got hooked in my navel. I went home straight away bloody and dirty. The rain just stopped that time so the tree was slippery. I was so worried about my new shirt and how my aunt would react. My wound hurt but I am more anxious that my aunt will get mad but she didn't and I was relieved. I didn't mind the pain for I know I'll be fine for my aunt tended to my wounds with such love and care. I went home wearing that scar like a badge of honor. Mind you, I went home alone. There were no cellphones or internet then and telephones are a luxury. I boarded the bus and my aunt requested the driver to drop me off in our town. I think it was 4-6 hour travel. I felt independent that time. My mom was surprised when I showed at our door. I told her all about my time there and showed my scar. I can't recall now what her reaction was but I know I am proud showing my healing wound then lol! I still have the scar to remind me that day. My aunt sold their house there and I don't know what happened to my playmates. There were also times when a neighbor took us to their province. I remembered it to be hot. They had solar panels which is their source of electricity at night. Back then, power goes out every 6:00 p.m. They have the solar panels as back up. In school, I was part of a singing group and we would be traveling to places along with teachers and some parents. Fast forward to high school.
imanagrcltrst talked about preparing yourself for school which reminded me of my time in high school. Days before school day, we would be buying the things we need and start packing along with clothes and other things I will be needing that year. https://read.cash/@imanagrcltrst/how-i-ready-for-every-next-years-and-semesters-of-schooling-cf86ec2c My older siblings spent their high school away from home and they would only come home during breaks. I find that fun and interesting for they will come home with lots of stories to tell. It's a whole new experience I thought and the more they talk about it the more appealing it was. So I studied there in high school too. It was an eight-hour travel by bus if there were no mishaps but it could take double that time if the road situation was that bad. We stayed in dorms during my time there. I would go home during breaks, semester break, Christmas break and summer. There was one time I didn't go home during semester because of a storm that caused road travel unsafe. That made me miss home big time. During my years there, I belonged to a singing group and we would be visiting places singing in churches and homes. There were occasions that we traveled home so I had the chance to see my family. In school, there were field trips and one time it included visiting Baguio City. I finished high school and would visit my friends there from time to time. Three years ago was my last visit there. I came back home for college.
Looking back, I guess it was those things above that made me love traveling. When I travel, I like sitting beside the window where I can see the scenery passing by. It's like watching a movie. When I was in college, I didn't get to travel much for I was more of a home buddy. Only when I visit my friends back where I studied high school do I get to travel but nowhere else. When I started working, that's when I started traveling elsewhere together with some friends. There were times when we would go for a quick dip at the beach just to satisfy our itchy feet. And the rest is history. What is your travel story?
There are many places to travel. So may things to see. I haven't traveled outside Asia yet. I have been out of the country twice. However, it is my goal once pandemic is over to start visiting every places here in my country. Thank you for taking time to read. I would also like to thank my supporters and sponsors. May you continue supporting and sponsoring others as well.

Cge sumarnuak agpost. Urayem hehe.
You had quite an adventurous childhood :) Puro beach or swimming pool lang kami :D
Sadyang gala! I never got the travel bug until my first work. Before that travel is mostly with family and if not ilocos (mom's side), iloilo (dad's side) .. Waha.. lakas maka reminisce ah! You had a fun travel stories from childhood!
Oy sama ako jan! Haha basta sa pilipinas lang! ππ
It's great that your parents allowed you to explore, stay with your tita and grandma even a neighbor when you were just a kid. I think that's a good thing every parent must do so that kids will not be too attached to them and will have an idea about how it feels to be away with them.
I think ako nagstart dahil sa parents ko .. lagi kami nagtatravel kahit nung maliit pa ako.. and was glad it was them who introduced travel to me even lahat ng mode of transpo napa try nila sa akin hihihi.
Ano po work nyo?
I travel dati through bus or jeepney out of my province to relieve stress and for an adventure :) Being away from the family for the first really sucks though.
Ingkab kaubingan gayam ti nagpaspasyar sir, no doubt po mahilig kayo sa nature, agpada kay gayam ken ate bloughound nga adda talent na agkanta..sana all nalang po hehe
I only have travelled experience North and South of the Philippines. In the future I will share it too, going yo look for the Photo first.
Canβt wait to make money so I can travel to different places in the world I would miss home but I mean I really want to travel π
I can't say travelling is my thing so I'm not really eager to travel. But, I really enjoyed reading about your experiences
I fractured my leg multiple times while climbing mango tree.. I living away from home experience is not so good. I can't sleep away from home.
That must have hurt. Ouch! Sooner or later you will have to move and leave :)
4 hours being alone in the bus! good thing the driver didn't miss dropping you off. I had my own share of similar stories except that it's a ship.. I boarded a ship alone to cebu to visit my cousins.. i guess that helped me a lot in my love for traveling.. like you, i also love watching the scenery outside the window so i would always request for a window seat... hopefully, the pandemic will end soon so we can all travel again..
I would have asked the conductor anyway to drop me off if he missed my stop :) I just can't contain my excitement as the bus drew nearer to my stop that if it didn't stop, I would've jumped off lol! I have yet to try traveling by ship. I think the closest is a ferry that we road in Indonesia.
oh i know that feeling.. my heart beats fast when i see my stop is just on the next block..hahaha...
i like your stories, i like to tell them too. i had my own badges too, i have one on my head and on my leg, hehehehehehehe
I have lots on my head too :D I guess we are accident prone :D
What memories come to mind reading your youthful travel adventure. I traveled a lot after I turned 18 years old. And from then on I did not stop until my country fell into this nasty socialist system of government.
I'm really sorry for what happened but I really do hope things will be better again so you can travel more.
Travelling makes me feel nausea. Being in the bus for long affect me in such a way that i can't explain but that hasn't stopped me from travelling. Moreover we move from state to state at interval, so it's already part of me.
I used to be that way too when I was younger. I get sick a lot but good thing I outgrew it. Good for you for continuing on.
Same! I am a home body so I havenβt really been explored our country π but hereβs to the future! May we get the break that we deserve and I look forward to the photos that you will get to take
Yes, I am hoping for a wonderful future ahead that we can travel more.
I am traveler since college, every vacation time, I look forward to go to my relatives which is a 5-6 hour ride from our place. I like to go to their place and enjoyed going to their farms. I like to pick watermelons. What I love most is that when its time to go home they will give me rice, mongoes and malagkit to bring home. many memories.
It's our culture to give our visitors as gift when they leave especially in the province.
Since childhood, you were a bit of an explorer. ;) When I was a child, I traveled a lot to different parts of the country with my parents. My dad really liked road trips, and we got to know a lot of places. Maybe that's why my love for travel is due. I love visiting new places, other cultures, trying new foods. But I also like to travel within my country. Although lately, that is also quite complicated.
It's really nice to have road trips especially with family and loved ones. I forgot to include our road trips with family too. There was one time that was tragic for we had an accident. My sister and aunt were the ones who suffered from that. Thank goodness they survived that.
I am a home body, a bedroom body specifically π.. I just have a vacay with family but not yearly.. and my parents don't allow me stay far from them when I was still young.. that's why when I stay in Rizal for a year, they keep sending money and load for me π.. they're really worried.
That's what parents are they will always look after their kids. We just have to show them that we are okay so they will not be constantly worried.
They worried because of my crooked foot. Imagine, ayaw nya ipatiles and banyo namin sa likod dahil baka daw madulas ako ππ.
I also love to travel sana kasontamad ako, ahahaha.
Kagaling nila umakyat kasi e hehe.
Wahaha. I like how you being proud of your wounds, Kuya. I'm planning to visit some places here in the Philippines too after the pandemic.
Tas babalik pa kami nyan the next day at ganun pa rin kadami makukuha namin.
Oo nga eh sa amin rin. Walang ubusan π
Lovely read. Your wonderful days from school to college should be a real adventure Hope u will be fortunate to accomplish your goal someday after lockdown.
I hope so too and wish you all the best as well. This pandemic has put a lot of things on hold for most of us.
I'd wanted to skip through the nail and mango tree part but I managed to read it. That could have been disastrous. An angel must have intervened but let you have a battle scar to remember not to be so naughty in the future. I wish I could travel more. I love traveling.
I believe that an angel was there. I felt like someone was pushing as I slid down the tree and cushioned my fall. I just found myself on the ground wounded.
Awesome testimony.
Napakaganda talaga mga travel blogs nyo sir.
Maraming salamat, sir!
