This is my entry to ecotrain's question of the week.

https://3speak.tv/watch?v=leeart/sljoembc

I was actually planning to make a post about this once I am done with our Kalinga trip. There is one more post about it that I am supposed to write but then I read Jane's post about Ecotrain in hive. You can read Jane's post here.

I also posted that same video in my youtube account.

You can check out my post in hive.

Whenever I see destruction that is sugar coated as development, I always wonder what kind of future are we leaving for our kids if we continue to do what we are doing now.

All around us are construction. Here in our neighborhood alone, a dozen of houses were put up since moving here. More and more are being constructed every day.

When some residents of the city learned that a mall is going to be constructed here in the city, many protested for hundreds of trees perished. It turned out to be biggest mall in the city. When people learned about its plan of expansion, they protested again to no avail for the mall successfully carried out its plan.

When an owner of a private land (where thick trees used to grow) decided to cut those and built a hospital there, it was met with protests even the mayor was involved in filing a case against the owner to no avail.

Although we have environmental rules and laws that one must follow, those are just pieces of paper it seems for the law has no teeth or claws.

Owners of private land can do what they wish on their land.

These are just the bigger fish. How about the small pieces of lands being sold every day and in place were houses built? More and more lands are being sold in the city and the surrounding areas. These are the ones that are making a huge impact much more so than the malls or hotels or hospitals. A piece of land here and there sold every day until all the lands have no more trees and in place where man-made structures. Do you know the movie Lorax? Try to watch that for that is what is happening now. Soon not only food or gas or water will be scarce but also fresh air.

Every house built should have at least one tree planted. Every property should have trees in them. What causes flood? Landslide? Climate change? When mountains and lands are used to be barren of man-made structures, when it rains, water is absorbed by the earth. We created roads and canals and gutters so water can easily flow. No earth to saturate just free flowing water.

We keep building roads such that we want to flatten all mountains it seems. We weaken nature thus causing landslides and erosions.

What are the consequences of these actions? Death and destruction.

So the question remains, what kind of future will you want your children to grow up to?

But this is all because of those people who make a law that it's just like a piece of paper that they do whatever they wanted even if it's harmful to the environment. But then who suffers from their wrongdoing probably our society. But even if they are aware of it but still they only think about the money, not about the future of our today's children.

Plants are very important for human life because without plants humans will not live because the web of life will not be separated from plants such as trees.

Absolutely! We all should know the importance of nature and take care of it.

Tree are most important for our future life and good health . We are week aware of the fact that how trees play important role to secure environment. Here in our country our beloved former prime minister took the step and started project called billion tree Tsunami. It is working. In our country no one is allowed to cut tree if anyone do this he must be punished. And government provide plant to public for planting trees.in our university it is a society who held activity to planting trees. Go green society.

Imagine if every family plant even one tree, napaka laking tulong na. We are lucky because in our local area madami pading puno.

Indeed. Such a big help if only we can do that.

Well, it has been like this that a little percentage of people are the ones considerate in securing our earth. Most of us are just after our benefits for the main time, cutting trees without planting back and burning bushes.

Destruction sugar coated as development... environmental laws without teeth. This is so powerful! I actually did see the movie, Lorax, and I agree that it seems that we are headed there all in the name of progress. We are already suffering the consequences of some of our actions, with rising temperatures (we are practically burning up in the heat), sea level rise, the destruction of natural habitats and so on, and still, we continue because we are driven by greed. This is so terribly sad.

It is so sad that some of us are hypocrites urging everyone to at least make a change but when no one is watching we go back to who we are. Sana talaga magtanda na lahat tayo.

It does seem as thou a lot of people do not really care about what is gong on. The whole deforestation and not enough afforestation to match up. Just the other day I saw a truck carrying trunks of threes that do not meet any standard for it to be cut down. Sad really.

My dear friend, you said great. Unfortunately, today, all over the world, we are witnessing the destruction of the environment by humans. People build big buildings for their business purposes and cut down a lot of trees because of it. Mountains and forests are being destroyed for urban development and human comfort, and roads and buildings are being built in their place. This is very painful because people don't care about the consequences of their actions, which can be floods, water shortages, fault openings, air pollution, and many other environmental problems.

Unfortunately money is more powerful. Even here in the metro, you can already see some of the mountains were developed into villages. Before you can still see some greens while looking up, but now you'll see more houses.

Actually I am too , is really guilty for I am working in a construction firm where every place being developed is a blessing for us since we'll be having project and the job and good salary continues. But overlooking some business centers near me with no trees left to watch I can say that this ain't right but I can't do anything about it I guess

I think that kind of question will remain just a question as no one can even stop those who had power to do their wants. People that has money, wants to grow and develop more, on the other hand the people who loves to keep and to protect the nature will remained unheard.

Time will come all of us will be washed away by floods because of different constructions and cutting of trees

This is so sad. Probably, 1000 years from now, there will be no mountains and trees anymore. Just all buildings and infrastructures.

Go green, we should support the movements to protecting the mother earth. I've watched the movie lorax and it's so scary when it will happen in real world, so it's better to do what we can before it's too late .

I love the green places sir lee. Malaking tulong yun sa mga disasters kaya gusto ko talaga sa province namin compare sa cities. Napaka fresh ng place. I love the green one sir lee. Sa cities mostly wala ka ng makitang trees puro nalang buildings sir lee.

actually all of that is because of the human activity itself that makes such a disaster by destroying nature, or purely natural disaster we don't know. What is clear is that we hope that nature remains friendly with us

We are now in a situation where it is clear that if we continue to produce and consume at the same rate, the next generation has little chance of surviving on this planet.

Recently I visited a friend of mine whose husband was lucky enough to get a cheap land on an estate in a developing part of the city. This was a place that was a big Forest two years ago..She complained bitterly that this was the fourth time she was seeing snakes around the property. As someone who have a strong fear of reptiles, this has seriously affected her state of mind... I thought to myself " where would you expect the poor animals to go to after their natural habitats have been taken away from them". Lol

Same goes to my place. Factories had been busy building here and people tripled in numbers. Not only the trees were damaged but as well as the river. The land had been poluuted with people's waste as well as sin. Many has turned bisexuals, even the sin of coveting is great.

My native place is surrounded with thick massive mountains and once it was amazing to see from up top and now when we see, we see lights.. not green.. The rate of deforestation humans are doing now is alarming and that is the reason why Mother Nature is punishing humans often with droughts, extreme heat or floods.. if that is not the wake up call, I do not know what is.. In one hand, we have so many thousands of abandoned buildings and towns, other hand, they are never stopping to construct new houses, I mean.. where is the balance?? or logic behind this? why not use resources that already there?

Hopefully all companies cutting down trees will replace them with 3 or 5 more plants. Floods are heavily a big problem especially our country are experiencing lots of rainy season every year.
