We all know that we really need sleep, for our physical and mental condition, but waking up earlier can be very useful.
There seems to be a time-cutting moment in the day: one in which, although you live in a busy city, you can hear the rustling of the wind, because the streets are deserted and there is no one around, that hour is just you and the world still asleep. This is the ideal time to steal some time from Morpheus and dedicate yourself to something that makes you feel good (other than sleeping, of course): the ritual of waking up.
Many people who want to stay fit or just want to feel good take some time early in the morning to perform some movement, meditation and there are those who like me like to write; successful people always seem to be they greet the morning according to an ancient popular saying ... "The morning has gold in its mouth."
There is a reason why this should be done in the morning and not later in the day: this moment is the first blank page of the day, the one that will leave a decisive impression on your way of reacting to events, good or bad, that you will have to face.
If you started the day with yoga or meditation and a healthy colorful breakfast, you are more likely to start the day in a good mood and avoid the harmful effects of stress. If, on the other hand, you get up late, skip breakfast, or rush to eat a bite while leaving the house, it is unlikely that you will take a breath and count to 10 while traveling to work before cursing someone in traffic.
Rule no. 1: If you want to wake up early in the morning, respect your body and organism
Sleeping less than what your body needs to function properly is not recommended, it could be harmful to health: according to research by Harvard Medical School, too little sleep every night can be long-term.
lead to diabetes and cardiovascular disease, can also negatively affect mood and learning skills; the reason why if you want to wake up earlier in the morning, you have to go to bed earlier in the evening, maybe giving up some episodes of your favorite series. If waking up at 5 in the morning is a tour de force that sends you negative energy during the day because you usually wake up at 8, listen to your body. Wake up just an hour earlier than your alarm clock and maybe it will be enough to bring you countless benefits without the damage of a premature alarm clock and is definitely more feasible than waking up at dawn if you’re not used to it.
We live in our body and need to take care of it, respect its physiological needs and make decisions that will help it do its job best, which is why it might be helpful to use the morning hour to dedicate to your well-being: consider making a small investment in your physical and mental health.
Rule no. 2: start with the reward
The decision to wake up an hour early when you may be comfortable under the covers deserves a reward! Imagine something that gives you pleasure, makes you feel good, and is good for your mind and body: find your little awakening ritual. For example, I like to start the day by drinking a glass of water to dehydrate and practicing sun salutation. I prepare breakfast and sip coffee with milk on the balcony (yes, even in winter) while the city is still asleep. That moment is just mine: 15 minutes of peace and quiet. There is no traffic, the air is clean and breathing becomes a pleasure again. It allows me to concentrate, be grateful for what I have and start the day kindly to me.
So, ask yourself what your awakening ritual might be like: what do you like and what makes you feel good? What really feeds you? Remember that these precious minutes are dedicated exclusively to you and your well-being. Catch them!
