The Farmboy Who Changed the World at 14
The day started like any other for this young and capable land in Idaho. He woke up early in the morning and had some humble breakfast which was prepared by his loving mother.
Just before the sun fully rises up, he and his father would go on to work on the fields. This young lad has a thing for tinkering with things and for thinking about big ideas. His mind was never idle and there weren't enough things to do on the farm aside from farming.
While helping out, he takes the time to make his mind work as his body was doing manual labor.
One day, he was plowing a potato field. He walked over to the edge of the fields and looked at the lines he made with great curiosity. The lines were parallel to each other and they were all lined up perfectly fine. Amidst looking at the lines beautifully next to each other, his mind was wandering freely into the future. He thought that this beautiful pattern can help him with a vision in his mind.
He thought that he could slice up an image into parallel lines and he could somehow assemble them again in another place to display and essentially transmit the image.
And that's how the modern TV as we know it was born. That young lad who was plowing the potato field that day was the 14-year-old Philo Taylor Farnsworth. Yes, just 14 years of age and he was already thinking about such complicated stuff. Historians recall that Philo was really a curious boy and was really inclined to inventions and stuff.
Sharp, Sony, Phillips, LG, Devant, Samsung, and all other brands that provide us with Television sets have this farm boy to thank for the millions they make for selling TVs.
Of course, it wasn't at all smooth sailing for the young genius. He was sued by RCA for patent infringement. RCA holds the monopoly on almost all broadcasting technology back then. And I guess that history repeats itself as we witness time after time these kinds of legal battles like Microsoft and other startups.
But boy, 14 years of age? What was I doing back then? What was I thinking about during those formative years? Some are thinking about how to shape the future, some are thinking about how to rob the world of all its riches and I was there, making poems for girls to make them look my way. Crazy time.
Who would have thought that a young boy on a farm who was plowing the grounds for vegetation would come up with an idea that would change the entire world? I can just imagine that if he wasn't able to invent that stuff possible, I think that we have no Kdramas and other shows today. Who knows? Maybe mobile phones, laptops, and other gadgets wouldn't even be possible today.
Actually, there are countless technologies being invented every single day. What made Farnsworth's story special is he was young and the invention he was able to come up with was so huge that it took the world by storm. But I think that it would still be an amazing feat regardless of his age. I mean, dude! It's TV!
Can you imagine living without your favorite TV show?
Hi!!!
So let's try to be a bit creative and imaginative at the same time. Without worrying about the cost, the logical intricacies, and all the nitty-gritty details, what would you like to invent?
What does your invention do?
What does it look like?
How can it help people?
Will you sell it to a big company?
Who would you like to collaborate with? Tag 'em.
Who would you like to try the invention first? Tag 'em!
Well, that's it from me and until we read again...
Cheers!!!
