I don't want to be part of the problem. Greetings reader friends, my apologies again for not being so active lately. My multiple tasks keep me a bit away from the networks. Today I bring you a topic that I know that for many will be easy to master because it is something that can be observed every day in our media. I have been commenting on it in the networks in the form of short comments but today I have decided to talk a little more. I realize that there are many young people on the streets, passing by houses or vehicles that stop at traffic lights, or in places where they dispense food for sale like restaurants or fast food places where they are able to eat on the spot.
And it is not that these young people are passing by to say hello, but that they pass by asking for help on a situation or other personal problem. This, far from bothering me, worries me because a wrong idea is being formed about what is better, to ask or to work. That it is better to reach out to a heart that is empathetic to their problems in order to find quick solutions to their personal life stories. In many occasions I know that it is about personal tragedies where we all get involved to help but the most frequent thing that happens nowadays is that they come every day to do the same thing, to ask for help. It’s then that I realize that many people don’t try too much to develop ideas as to how to create opportunities and do things that help them to get out of their precariousness. Many years ago I was moved by the situation of these young people who learn to manipulate the minds of others towards the easy achievement of their goals. I even realized that I was being part of the problem, because I gave money without saying anything. There comes a time when something happens and it clears your mind and I started to think about the reason for this daily activity of asking and not working. And by working I mean of course, participating in any activity that generates a personal income, whether or not you pay taxes. These young people who come to the buses to sell their products is something I collaborate for, I buy their products to the extent of my pocket change. Those who want to sell something that I can see the sense of my use or that of someone I know to give it as a gift later. I happen to see many physically and mentally complete young people who only come with sad tales of their life asking for food or material things. None of them tell me that they need to work and how about if I give them some work to exchange for food. I don't see them wanting to get ahead by their own means if not by calling the attention of the sentimental part of others and bringing stories. Gentlemen, there are bad conditions in all the families, all of them work hard enough every day to maintain themselves. Generally we work to achieve an economic benefit. I am a senior citizen, but I still have a lot of strength to work, I do it in my garden every day. I plant my plants, take care of pests and weeds, transplant, reproduce, harvest and sell many of the plants that I have taken care of. I also sometimes make jams and cakes, donuts and cupcakes for sale, as well as crackers and cookies. I don't go out on the street to beg. I also searched the networks for ways to work online even if I struggle constantly with a terrible internet connection God rewards the effort to seek daily bread. I went through a very bad situation when we entered the pandemic because I couldn’t continue working as a doctor in my office. In the word God tells us what we must do to have a worthy path guided by him. He tells us that we must teach how to fish and not just give the fish. It was my mistake for a long time, giving the fish without telling how to catch it. At a Sunday mass a priest said some words that disturbed me and I learned my lesson, sometimes we make mistakes just to get by, but I don't do it anymore. He pointed out that we commit sin when we allow people to abuse our humanity. Because God has his work entrusted to each one and when we do not allow people to go through their ways of living in a dignified manner, we are against God's work. It is not that we do not see particular cases of people in the street with truly precarious situations and yet we do not help them, they are different situations that merit urgent measures. I am referring to those who come to us constantly in the streets and homes and we know that they are using our resources to support their addictions. The manipulation of our feelings is becoming more and more specialized in those people who are skilled at being unsuspecting, I have seen young people with children in their arms pretending they are their own and then return them on the way to count the seized loot. They do this with the slightest discomfort only to make up sad stories that soften our hearts. Throughout my life I have seen how people have abused the good intentions of others. Let's take a good look at what we are doing. We are not being part of the solution but increasing a problem, allowing young people, instead of working for what they need, to study an imaginary theatrical career to pretend situations that they are far from suffering. Many years ago I used to buy paintings from artisan painters. I liked their paintings and they would present them to me and I would buy them, one day I saw one of them with his reds as red as fire and with his nose running. It was as if from one day to the next he had developed a terrible case of the flu. I even asked him what was wrong and he answered me vaguely, he didn't even tell me it was allergy or flu, he just smiled wiping his nose. At that moment I thought about what some of my friends had told me, that these men used to get together to use drugs. I didn't feel bad but sad for them. They spend so much time working painting and then with the profits they get high, I just buy the paintings they sell and I like them, they will see what they do with their money. I wonder what they will do now in these pandemic times to survive, unable to sell, unable to work. Will they be on the streets begging under the concept of a sad story? Or will they have seen a way to work on other things? I don't know. There is much poverty in the world, there are many sad stories in the world, we must learn to discern who and how we help our neighbors so that we do not fall into the clumsiness of getting involved in their low passions. May God give us the ability to discern how to be a good Samaritan and not a collaborator of sin. Thank you my dear reader friends, I would like to know your opinions. Begging is now a normal thing to some. You'll see a complete person – and by complete, I mean not handicapped or mentally challenged – coming to you with stories and trying to play at your emotions and empathy just to get money from you. It's sad really, that even those who ought to strive and struggle much as they can for daily bread do not want to even try, because they feel there is no job for them. So their best course of action is to employ themselves on the streets dutifully asking those struggling for themselves and their family for a share of their money
I think they get together and strategize to reach the hearts of those who have shelter and food. That's how they reach the hearts with twisted stories.
I couldn't agree more. Perhaps they agree to use a story and experiment it out to rate its success by how many would fall for it
Sadly, this is how it is. They get together to do misdeeds and I think they also do it to laugh at the people who believe the stories they tell them and give them the money.
It is only the last stage of helplessness to take the savings that people have gained by working from them by exploiting feelings. Here, the person who will help is responsible, and we all have to be followers of the use of our aids.
Now we are the ones who must learn to see who we are really helping and not be manipulated to deceive us and achieve the objectives they have.
I was watching kids cartoon programe and I was stunned with the content. That day they were talking about earning money and saying that kids don't have to depend solely on parents. I was surprised and happy. I was never taught this as a child. I only grew up to understand it. People like taking advantage
How nice. I haven't seen that on my TV either. I wish they would teach that here so that they learn the value of work from a young age.
Some people won’t bother to work or look for opportunities when they have someone they can run to for help at anytime and the person will deliver, not knowing that the person is human too and is bad to ask too much especially the person know that he or she can do it themselves
There are many people specializing in how to deceive the unwary. Instead of using that mind to fight and move forward.
There are a lot of people who are trying to manipulate other people’s feelings and get money out of their pocket. If we are a little more emotional, we will feel sorry for them, but that is wrong. The saddest thing for me is when I see them taking children with them and forcing them to beg and sit on cold concrete all day. I do not give money to such young people who have the ability to work and who should return to true values because they have strayed from the path.
Yes, I agree with you. I don't give money to them either. I see that taking the children as a way to manipulate the hearts grieved by seeing those children on the street.
God is a great provider ma'am. Woww you are a doctor maam gertu. So cool! Its good for you that you are enjoying staying home like you will do planting and many others that will give you more productive. Take care always ma'am and with your health also.
Thank you for your good wishes but I am still active. I spend my practice in the mornings and in the afternoons I dedicate myself to my plants.
Good to know that maam
I witnessed the same situation with my co-worker. A friend of hers is always relying on her to feed them during her day off. Sometimes asking for money most of the time. I didn't know it happened for a long time. But when I discovered it, I advised her not to tolerate such actions for she is just making her friend rely on her more. It's good to give but some people abuse it and want to have more. I agree when you said why aren't asking for work instead in exchange for money or food. It could be better. There are people with disabilities that struggled to live decently and they did. Why beg when you have complete body parts?
What you have written is something I always admire in people who lack limbs, always struggling and manage to live with dignity. But there is a lot of mental poverty.
You're right most people who are wandering around the street begging are just manipulating others to get their money they should instead ask for how to catch a fish rather than collecting.
Many people prefer to beg because they have no dignity and prefer to be beggars.
These kind of people will never take the effort to make their own money with their work. I was happy to learn, that you create your own income by baking and selling. It shows, that you are not only making effort, but you have creative ways to earn cash.
Nowadays I do very little in relation to baking, but I do get more involved with my plants. I did a lot of activities while I was not opening my medical practice. Now I am in the morning with patients, in the afternoons with plants and writing among them.
I can sadly relate to this because this is what the problem that I'm having right now. I am annoyed by my group mates because they won't do anything to help and will only react when I tell them or give them the answers. They don't even bother helping me and doing some research for our group.
This is called manipulation to try to achieve their goals by adding themselves to the group where there is a person who is a hard worker. In this way they achieve their objectives without making any effort.
From where I come, this is indeed a very obvious trend. Infact begging is now a job someone wakes up on the morning to do. It's indeed sad how people have killed their hearts and rid their souls of their God given dignity to do such kind of things and again you see cripples people who still strive on their own to make a living. What sad opposites.
People who fight have more merit because they have dignity and although they have physical limitations, they make it clear that they do not have mental limitations. That makes them grow and be valued.
I'm also the type of person who is fond of helping on stray people on streets or beggars I'm get so emotional to see their situation but sometimes I encouter thos people who just want money and not food because one time I gave a beggar a sandwich that suppose to be my pack lunch but then I just gave it to him since it seems that he need it more than me but when I almost few steps away from him, he just throws the food I gave him, and it really pains to see that and I'm mad at that kind of people, if they just want money then work for it, not just begged, come on people if you really want something in life you will do everything regardless of.
What a hard face that guy has. By God, I wouldn't ever give him anything else in my life. It's sad to see how they waste their lives. They have potential in their minds and mental poverty only leads them to ask for money.
In our country, the situation is a bit different. There are "beggars" on the streets but they are being used by a syndicate. They are herded to one area - usually a busy intersection with stoplights - and there they badger people, knocking on cars, entering jeeps and buses since they are open, and ask for money. Many are able-bodied. And like you, I hate those who use children for this nefarious practice. But I agree with you about those young people who manipulate others just to avoid working for their keep. And I feel just as bad and disappointed because they waste whatever potential they have.
Different countries even from different continents and they are the same stories with some variations. They study us and create the sad stories to reach a humble heart. Then they even laugh at us when they see tears in our eyes and they reach their goal.
Yes, that's true. They keep on asking for help from people they see or passed them every single day without doing anything that can help them to get out of that sad situation. They should help themselves as well to have a better living.
They have their own limitations. Their poverty is in the mind and they fail to overcome it.
It is a way to get easy money without any effort. A disabled man in the city of Carupano remained in my mind, without arms or legs, selling various items, they took him early in a wheelchair, he stayed there all day until the afternoon they went to look for him. I saw another person without legs doing auto mechanic work, worthy of admiration.
That is the dignity ahead of these people I do help them by buying their products and seeking their services. They are examples of overcoming physical limitations. But the mental limitation is the one that prevails...
When I was reading this article. Something striked me. During the pandemic period there was a man who came home and was saying sad stories probably in the hope of getting something more. So I just told you are looking healthy and why don't you take up some job. He was just smiling and asking for alms. That's it. This man was quite healthy and young but he was lazy because he was making incone this way.
It's a way of thinking of those people who learn the craft of manipulation so they can earn money from charity by telling their tragic experiences. That may even have been created both physically and mentally by themselves to achieve their goals, to get easy money.
Exactly for sure this is one reason.
Thank you for your comment. You are welcome to my posts. It is a prevailing social type problem we have here but there is no interest either on the part of the authorities or on the part of the person himself to fix it.
This is very common in my parts of the world. As a matter of fact , grovelling is seen as an occupation for alot of folks. Some even looks healthier the person they were asking for alms.. illiteracy and ignorance is another contributing factor. I remember there was a time that a sitting Governor promised to rehablitate such people but there was such a huge outcry from the beggars community which almost cost him his re-election. He had to rescind this decision immediately. So, I think it's a way of life for some and also a problem of the mind.
I do believe in what you say. It is a mental poverty that drives them to their livelihood.
Sometimes people just love the easy way out of their problems and misfortune that's why they love to ask and beg. There's a minority group here, a tribe in the southern part of the Philippines, that the government always try to help and provide livelihood projects for them to learn, however these people would still go back to the streets.. Laziness is a curse!
Begging has become most people's profession in life, they'll beg to eat, beg for cloth, beg for this and that. It is sad truly when I see these people and you are right about them bringing babies that aren't theirs just do have pity faces ready to make their day. I once did give out to them but I stopped years back when I realized most of them use it for bad things while others have built big houses with it but still couldn't desist from the act of begging.
Hello mam nice meeting you . It is really common in the society we need to learn from what you say let us not be a collaborators of sins
There's a lots of options just to earn money and ever since I struggle a lot in money few years ago but I was selling a lots of stuffs to a big store here. The salesladies in a store is my varied customers. I need to earn that time so that I can buy milk and diaper for my eldest. Gud evening sis and have a great day ahead.
I have seen a lot of people on the streets begging for money from people. I feel sad for them in someway. But one of my professors told me before that if you teach the people to beg and just beg, they will beg for the rest of their lives, but if you help them how to live a good life, they will do the same.
Exactly, I agree. We help them find a trade. We help them by putting them to do small jobs that will earn them money. That will be our biggest contribution.
Sorry to say....I seldom offer help to such People. It gives me headache why a well bodied individual would be roaming the street to beg. I know we are in hard times but we have little little ways we can work to earn even if it's little.
I agree. There are old people working in small things and there are young people begging. It is unfair to give to the young and forget the old. I prefer to help the one who helps himself by giving a little more.
I have a soft heart with this kind of people, yet I also realized that I am.just tolerating their laziness. So if ever I saw a beggar I no longer give money..instead I offer food. Though I had an experience that a beggar refused what I had offer. It was a sliced bread from well known company who sells bread (gardenia) and a bottle of water. She told me she needs money to buy food. But I am offering her something to eat. I was mad that time yet I chose to leave that woman.
These types of people only want money because they buy their vices with the money we give them. Indirectly we are part of the problem that they are.
