Knitting crochet slippers, to give as Christmas gifts.
🎄Beautiful child, before you I surrender.
Pretty boy, you are my God.
This is the verse of the most sung song in the Venezuelan Christmas. Christmas carols are beautiful songs that make us happy during the novenas de aguinaldos, the child's birth, the posadas, all of this is part of our traditions.
The Catholic Church teaches us many things about the season of Advent, which is the time before the birth of the Christ child and prepares us for his arrival.
When December comes, many of us start thinking only about the holidays, the liquor, the food and what we are going to buy for the first time during the holidays, I am not against it, but we cannot forget the best part, when Christmas comes we celebrate that God sent his only son to live among us, to teach us to love and to forgive our sins.
Thinking about that child who was born in some poor and humble straws in the portal of Bethlehem, I want to make some shoes woven with Christmas colors, I still don't know who I'm going to give them to, but I'm sure it will be someone very special.
So how are we going to weave them 🎄.
I'm going to try to explain as best I can, I tried to make them look as much like some of the things I saw on the internet as possible, but I put my personal touch on several little things.
Woven sole: ❄
1v. We knit 15 chains, put a high stitch in the 4th chain, keep doing high stitches until we get to the last chain where we are going to put 6 high stitches in the same stitch. We go back with high stitches and when we reach the place where we knit the first high stitch we knit 5 high stitches, we close with satin stitch.
2v. We go up a chain and continue making low stitches until the middle of the sole, then we knit a high stitch in each base stitch until we reach where we knit the increase in the previous turn. We knit 6 increases of high stitches, and return in the same way, when we reach the other end we repeat the increases but in low stitches and close with satin stitch.
3v. We knit low stitches until we reach two stitches before the previous turn's increases, we knit 2 half stitches and then 12 increases of high stitches, we turn in the same way we arrived and when we reach the other end we knit a low stitch in each base stitch.
❄ Top of the shoe ☃
4v. Change the yarn and make a high stitch in each base stitch, but keeping in mind that we do not grab the two base yarns but only one, which will cause a break to lift the shoe.
5v. We start this round with half a stitch until I have 10 stitches left on the base without finishing, to do this we fold the sole in half and count. From here we are going to knit 20 increases of high stitches in total, this will be forming the tip of our shoe, we return in the same way and close with a satin stitch.
6v. we knit half stitches and when we get two stitches before our increases from the previous round we knit 7 increases and come back with half stitches until we finish the round with a satin stitch.
7v. we knit 7 low stitches and then we make the shoe strap, for that we knit 18 chains, we go back knitting a high stitch in the fourth chain, we continue with high stitches until we finish the base chains, we cast on with satin stitch skipping 2 stitches from the base, we continue with low stitches until we finish the round with satin stitch, we make safety stitch and we cut the yarn.
We place a button or a pearl and decorate as we like. As decoration we highlight the back of the tongue that was formed by lifting the top of the shoe.
Those look adorable and cute :) The ribbon was a lovely touch.
