Slovenia is known as a land of exceptional natural sights, but unfortunately sometimes it seems that we do not know how to appreciate what we have. This year is a great opportunity to explore Slovenia and its beautiful corners. This time we looked for the 7 most beautiful gorges, gorges and canyons in Slovenia, which are definitely worth visiting.
Great Soča riverbed
The Soča is considered to be one of the most beautiful Slovenian rivers, which is often called the emerald river due to its color. The large Soča riverbed is one of the most beautiful natural sights on the Soča River. They are located in the heart of the Triglav National Park, about 11 km from Bovec (towards Vršič). As the large Soča riverbeds are not completely accessible, they can only be seen in some places marked by a forest footpath that leads on the left from the beginning to the end of the riverbeds.
Tolmin Gorge
Picturesque and wild gorges are the lowest and probably the most beautiful entry point into the Triglav National Park. A 2-kilometer-long circular path will lead you through the wild troughs of the Tolminka and Zadlaščica rivers, which merge into the only confluence in the troughs on the territory of Slovenia. Visiting the troughs is chargeable, hiking shoes are mandatory for the route. In addition to the confluence, the biggest sights to see along the way are the Devil's Bridge, Bear's Head, Dante's Cave and the thermal spring.
Vintgar Gorge (Bled Vintgar)
Bled Vintgar or Vintgar Gorge is located on the eastern edge of the Triglav National Park, 4 km northwest of Bled. The 1600 m long and up to 250 m deep gorge was formed by the river Radovna, which flows into the Sava Dolinka soon after leaving the gorge. There is a footpath through the gorge, along which you can admire waterfalls, pools, erosion pots and other masterpieces of nature. You will need 2 to 3 hours to view, and the price of a ticket for an adult is currently 10 EUR.
Kokra River Canyon
Just below the old town of Kranj is the Kokra canyon. There is a circular promenade along the Kokra River, which will take you about 1 hour. The path, which also leads twice across the river Kokra, is flat and suitable for younger children. There are many benches along the path where you can rest and relax while the murmur of the river Kokra, and on the gravel the bravest can dip their feet into the river.
Iški vintgar
Iški vintgar is located just a few kilometers outside Ljubljana, near Ig. The image of the Iška Vintgar, which is up to 400 meters deep, was formed by the river Iška. Along the river you can walk freely along the path that starts at Dom v Iški vintgarju. Along the way you will look at the beautiful pools and rocky shores and also at the diverse biotic world.
Mostnica riverbed
In Bohinj, more precisely near the village of Stara Fužina, you can see the beautiful Mostnica riverbed. The troughs were formed in limestone by the mountain stream Mostnica, which originates in the Voje valley. The troughs are up to 20 meters high, and the stream bed narrows completely in some places. To visit the Mostnica Gorge, you have to pay an entrance fee from March to October, but you can also visit them free of charge in the winter. At that time, however, we advise you to be very careful, as there is a high risk of slipping in winter. The gorges are about two kilometers long, and the path leads on both sides, so you can make a circular path or continue along the Voja valley.
Bistriški vintgar
The picturesque valley created by the Bistrica stream is located in Slovenska Bistrica. You do not have to pay an entrance fee to see the picturesque rapids and the crystal clear stream. The path is easy and suitable for children, only part of the path by the Šum waterfall is more exposed and requires more caution. You will need about an hour and a half for a shorter circular route to the Šum waterfall, and you also have longer routes available.

Happy Friday!
forget Pokljuka Gorge If we still stay at the Bled end, we will find another gorge in the immediate vicinity, through which a circular path leads - the Pokljuka gorge, which lies at the foot of the Pokljuka plateau. In contrast to Vintgar, the gorge is a bit wilder, as it is surrounded by dense greenery and steep walls, and on the 2 km long path you will have amazing views of the wonders of nature - rocky passages, tunnels, caves and beautiful galleries. Among the biggest attractions of the gorge are natural bridges, Pokljuka hole and Side gorge. No wonder, then, that it is considered one of the most picturesque in Slovenia. The easiest way to reach the Pokljuka Gorge is from the village of Krnica, which lies a few kilometers from Bled. The route is marked as undemanding, and you will need about a good hour of time for it. After the visit, you can stop in Bled or combine a walk through the Pokljuka Gorge with a visit to Vintgar, as both sights are only a few kilometers apart.
