We all know how beautiful and special our kids can be. Don't mind the "our" I used because I haven't had any 😁 For the sake of this article, let me just maintain the use of it and I hope you understand I am referring to every mothers in the house including singles like me because I would surely have too.
Children are gift from God and until you see a barren woman who give birth after many years, you will understand how special they are to you. One of the responsibilities of parents is to take care and monitor their children, take note of what they do, how they behave, their attitudes before compared to now, only then will you notice what's wrong with them.
There is this recent case going on now which happened days ago and I was really pained and felt for the parent of the deceased. This boy was 12yrs old and attended a boarding school in one of the richest schools located at Lekki, Lagos State. You can imagine how rich the parent of the boy are.
According to what I heard because I was trying to get the full gist online, the mother of the lost son narrated how their boy was an extrovert before he started the school and when he came home for the term's holiday, they noticed his behavior had changed from being an extrovert. He became a silent and gentle boy, he doesn't say anything for the time being at home. School resumed again and the parent was driving him back to school and the boy told his mom to change his school for him. His mom asked what was wrong which he later said she shouldn't worry again.
They dropped him off at school and went their way. Few days later, they were called from the school that the boy was sick and that he fell down while playing with his mates but the truth was that he was bullied by some cultists students who gave him a chemical to drink. His mouth was swollen before he died. They already closed down the school and the father vows not to bury his son until those culprits are brought to book.
Seriously, I was so emotional to see a young boy's life been cut short and couldn't fulfill his destiny because of bullying at school.
What do I have to say to this? I would want to blame the parent on one side because when we were talking about this issue last night, I had to say some things which goes thus;
"A mother who heard the word from his son "Mom, pls change my school", shouldn't she understand there is something wrong for a child to say such thing even at that age? It means something is going on with him and just asking what's wrong isn't enough, but to follow him down to school to ask how are things happening in school. A parent who saw how extroverted their son was before going to school came home and changed all of a sudden, shouldn't they know something has gone wrong?"
Children are really facing bullying in school, not only in the boarding but day school. As parents, it is your duty to notice and observe your children to know what is going on before things get out of hand.
I really appreciate my Dad for his care and attention to us then. From our primary school down to secondary school, my Dad will always come around to check up on us. He was a musician and through that, he was made a permanent musician in our school. Everyday of the week, my Dad would visit his children in school and it got to a point, I thought my Dad was too over protective on us and made us like little children even when we were in higher college.
My elder sister was taken to my grandma when she stopped breastfeeding and my Dad would often travel home to visit her at her school. She attended a boarding school and he never stopped going to visit her. Thank God for who we are today.
Parents needs to watch their kids so they don't regret later. You have to monitor them especially their movement and how they act especially with behaviors they never put up before.
I really pitied Sylvester and I hope Justice is done for him and the culprits are apprehended. He was supposed to celebrate his birthday on the 4th of this month but he is gone. May his soul rest in peace.
Thanks for reading
