Kitchen Knife, so sharp but teaches a great life lesson.
“Sharpen your mind with the beauty of knowledge and the tears of experience to be wise”.
There are different kinds of accidents that causes a lot of injuries to humans, but I will be talking about the home accident which can be caused due to our carelessness and most times, they are unintentional. Someone lifting an object upstairs unintentionally stepped on an object and falls, is an example of a home accident.
Accidents, mostly happen in the kitchen, especially when handling a knife. I have had injuries through a knife and you know how painful it is for a sharp knife to cut through your palm, hand or fingers.
It was a sad day when the knife cut my hand while removing coconut from its shell. Ever since then, I am always afraid of peeling coconut with a knife. Even if you give me a coconut, I will tell you to peel and remove it for me or else, I will not collect it from you.
We have been made to know that the king of tools is the Knife and the most important in the kitchen. In our everyday life, it is the tool (knife) that anyone cooking would pick up. Also, the sharper a knife is, the faster we can cook and when a knife is sharp, even when cutting an onion or vegetables, they come out in perfect shape.
This means that the knife must stay sharp for it to do the best job/work for you. This is also the reason we need to keep sharpening it, perhaps once or twice a month when you see it needs some sharpening, but when a knife is blunt, it will not do a clean job and you won't enjoy using it.
What does this teach us in our daily life?
If we try to apply the use of the knife as a rule to our life, we can see how it is very important and necessary to sharpen our minds.
The mind is one of the important parts of our bodies, as it goes through so many thoughts and actions.
As we keep moving, every day of our lives, it is expedient and required of us to sharpen our minds to work effectively and if we do not sharpen our minds, it tends to become like the blunt knife.
How do we sharpen our minds?
Meditation: This is an act of contemplation. It is a process of focusing the mind on a particular object, thought or activity to help train attention and awareness, and in the end, enables you to achieve mentally clear, calmed emotions and a stable state.
Setting a particular time every day to meditate becomes a habit for us and it is a good exercise because it does so much good in our lives. Even if there are millions of thoughts crossing your mind, because it is normal to experience that, do not be worried.
Exercise: Any kind of exercise will help sharpen our minds. Early morning jogging, stretching our body as we wake up, skipping, jumping, squatting, etc are kinds of exercises which we can engage in our lives. For me, I love holding the iron rim on my window and going up and down. Many times, I jump, stretch my body and I feel better. Do not forget that taking a glass of water very early in the morning helps energize your mind for the day.
Yoga: Yoga is much more beneficial to the mind than to the body. Yoga refreshes and brings in so much positivity, as it brings a good connection to ourselves.
Reading: Our minds need information and it is always active all the time. So the more and constant reading of books means we are feeding our minds and to help sharpen them.
Sleep: Many of us are guilty of sleeping late and still wake up early because we want to survive. We have been told that a successful man does not sleep at night when others are working but what we don't know is that, we need to sleep to help our minds process some information.
We need to sleep even if it's eight hours a day and not deprive ourselves. The mind does not sleep when we keep engaging in many activities and it may affect your mind if you don't give it a processing time and that can be possible when you sleep.
Positive affirmations: Speaking some encouraging words to yourself will keep your mind sharpened. I love waking up and looking at the mirror with positive words for the day and my mind has always received that as it makes me productive in the end.
It is good to be positive and say some words to yourself. You are helping your mind and with that, you start to stay happy all through the day. Occupy your mind with positive affirmations instead of negative words.
