One Way to Deal With Inflation Inflation is here to stay for a little while and it is an issue that pretty much everyone across the globe is having to deal with. Forget the reasons it's here and why we have to deal with it. The fact is that it *is* here, and we have to deal with it. So, what does one do? You simply have to be more on top of things, especially in the area of spending, and particularly in the area of food. Because for most of us it is going to be one of the…

Inflation hits everyone. But it does not necessarily have to hit everyone in the same way. There ARE actually ways to think about it, and ways to get around at least some of it and give yourself a little bit of a boost in the pocket. I just offer a few thoughts here. It's not a solution, but rather a way of looking at it. https://read.cash/@Porwest/one-way-to-deal-with-inflation-39795891
Sorry I don't have a "plated" picture. But then I rarely do. But I am making boneless, skinless chicken thighs sandwiched with stuffing in the middle tonight for dinner. These are about half done and I have no doubt they should be delicious. Going to have the rest of the stuffing I didn't use on the side with some baked beans. This is what I call good eats. What's going on your dinner table tonight?
I was never able to fully distinguish the difference between a lazy river and a regular river. I mean, as far as rivers go... None of them ever get out of their beds. 🤷♂️
In my sales job I have enjoyed two record months in the past two months and it looks like I could have a fairly good month this month as well. But of course I never plan for that nor expect that to be the case. Even when they are not record months, but still good months, you always expect a couple of less than good months to follow. Not sure why it works that way. It just does. It does, however, keep you grounded.
Investing successfully in the stock market does not depend on relying on how well the market overall does. But what the individual companies you are invested in do. Even in the worst market conditions, many companies come out way ahead because their ultimate valuations are not defined by the market itself, but by how well it operates and generates revenues and profits. You don't invest in stocks. You invest in businesses.
My can crusher took a crap, so now I have to buy a new one. It should be here tomorrow. Bought one on Amazon for $18. Not always a fan of Amazon, but sometimes it is just easy and so long as the price is right I don't mind.
I do not like my things being messed with, especially on my desk. But my co-worker insists on continuing to mess with things. He is playing with fire. I think I may take him out fishing with me on a boat. I will have a present for him. They will be concrete shoes—and I will toss him over the side. Consider the shoes a going away present. 😈😈
The stock market has been a real bear lately. But it is nothing I did not fully plan for about a year and a half ago when I started putting more cash on the sidelines. For just this sort of an occasion. The best thing to do when we see drops like this is simple. Keep buying good, solid companies, ride it out, and make more money on the way back up. That being said, I do not believe we have seen any correction yet. That's still coming. But I will pay it no mind. It's a part…
Giving an Ear to the Oracle Is it ever a wise idea to argue with one of the greatest investment minds the world has ever known since Benjamin Graham? Even more, is it wise to argue with someone who has not only learned from Benjamin Graham's ideas, but perfected them and put them to work in a way that produced results that put him in the top ranks of the world's richest men? A position that has fluctuated a bit over the years, but has still firmly planted him within the top…
It goes without saying that when it comes to any investment, the current price you pay is not necessarily reflective of the true value. If you have done your due diligence the true value is calculable to some degree. And therefore any time is a good time to buy if the future value is apparent despite the current value. In other words, you keep buying good investments even when they are down. https://www.mylot.com/post/3507767/if-the-ride-gets-rough-hold-on-tighter-to-the-bars
When you are on a site like this it is of course crypto oriented, and it's going to have a lot of people very enthusiastic about everything crypto. I never aim to diss it or be a naysayer, but I do like to offer a different perspective. My views are simply something to consider to help weigh in on your own decisions and feelings about crypto. In any investment, perspectives are important. Sometimes you can't see everything, and looking at a different perspective sometimes…
I have to spend a crap ton of money tomorrow. Please be kind. Donations encouraged and welcome. Tip well my friends. I will remember you. 🤣🤣
Over the short span of time since the IPO of EV automaker Rivian, it has been an interesting ride so far. But I am still long Rivian, and one thing I am seeing is a good indicator to me of it's truer current valuation. Stabilization of its stock price. It has been hovering around about $29-$35 per share for some time, and so it at least gives me a good idea of where its support and resistance levels are, which is important as I make future decisions to DCA down on my current…
I am curious anyone's thoughts. Currently there is some talk among crypto enthusiasts that converting crypto to fiat is bad for crypto and counterintuitive to the "purpose." However, in the current environment, if crypto is spent in a business that accepts it for payment, isn't that in a sense an instant conversion to fiat? One presumes that currently much of the business' suppliers and employees, and other payments of services like electricity, network services, telephone…
Holy moly. We went for new glasses today and I knew it was going to be expensive as glasses always are, even with insurance. I planned for about $1000 between both mine and my wife's glasses. But she needed special lenses, so hers were over $1000 by themselves. Oh well. She has to see. The total bill came to roughly $1400 all said. It is a real pain in the ass to have to spend that kind of money, but at the same time if you can't see, the hospital bills from running into…
Rivian Plumments, But I am Still in it For the Long Haul I call them short term hiccups. Or maybe they are better described as "growing pains," but of course that's a bit cliché. I am talking about the plummet this morning of EV automaker stock, Rivian, which only recently began trading publicly in the stock market. From its IPO price of just around $78 per share the stock is now trading below $30 after the announcement by Ford Motor Company that they would be unloading 8…
Gosh, the stock market sure is taking a beating. Oh well, ultimately nothing changes even if the paper losses hurt a bit in the short term. It is what it is. As the old saying goes, when the going gets tough the tough get going. I've been investing in the stock market for many, many years and so I feel like I can hold my own just fine. On top of that the entire crypto market is total crap. Luckily I have only allocated 2% of my portfolio to THAT crap pile. lol
Considering the direction of the stock market AND the crypto market, looks like I may have to resort to eating hot dogs for dinner for a while. Hell, who am I kidding? Even those are too expensive now. Lots of squirrels running around the yard though and they are really easy to catch. Might have to get to work on catching some and finding some good recipes for squirrel. 🤣🤣
I am starting to wonder if this crypto thing is a road paved in nails. A table without legs. A chair without a seat. A bird without wings. A door on a second floor without a staircase. A greeting card with no message. An expired gift card. A checkbook without an account. A piano with no strings. A shopping mall with no stores. A hot sauce with no heat. A car with no engine. A coyote with no teeth. A skunk with no stink. A comb for a bald man. A gas pump with no nozzle. A key…
Ivan S. Graves. Back in the late 90s and into the early 2000s that's one of the pseudonyms I went by. Back then, founder and editor of the very popular FrightNet Online Magazine which started out as a monthly online horror fiction magazine, but eventually shifted to bi-monthly. The magazine featured great works from some great writers of the time. Douglas Clegg, T.M. Wright, Peter Straub, Michael Laimo, J.F. Gonzalez and many others. I was also editor of the horror fiction…
Gosh. I feel like some days lately I am just chasing my own damn tail. I mean, stock market's down, crypto market's down, inflation is just eating away at every paycheck. Oh well. It is what it is. Just have to hunker down and be creative and find more income sources to hedge against it all until things return to normal.
LUNA's fallout today, and perhaps what is happening across all crypto, is a stark reminder that investing is not always about just buying and HODLing. It's never a set it and forget it approach. I tend to think that part of what happens too often in the crypto world is that more "investment" approach is a product of enthusiasm, hype and hope without much else backing up the decision to invest than anything else. When I evaluate stocks in the stock market there are a…
Had some free time, so I decided to mess around a bit with my guitar, recording software and my new drum program—still learning my way around it. In any event, I uploaded this kind of curious if anyone wants to play around with it a bit, you know...add some lyrics, a bass line, or cool guitar solo, all of which I left absent on purpose. Not a song. Just messing around and decided to share it anyway. https://soundcloud.com/porwest/jim-bauer-rock-project
Elon Musk Knows a Thing or Two The more I listen to what Elon Musk has to say, the more I like the guy. I mean, I have always said he's a bit nutty and I still stand by that. But I have also been very clear to say he is also a genius. I admit to becoming more and more fascinated, so to speak by the whole Musk persona. Forget that he's essentially a democrat. I happen to be a republican. But when he talks politics I like that he doesn't necessarily take a side—he's much like…
When it comes to money, Elon Musk knows a thing or two. You don't get to stake the claim on being the richest man in the world not knowing things. And when you understand money, you also understand economics. It is part of the reason the Trump economy was so gosh darn successful all other things Trump notwithstanding. In this newest article I just share some thoughts on why I like what Musk has been saying lately and why I think what he is saying is important enough to…
For anyone that is curious or wants to know, Amazon's trade-split day is June 3rd. They are doing a 20 for one 1 split. Considering the depressed price of Amazon stock recently and the future prospects of the company, and taking into consideration what became of the share price post split on the last split in 1999... I am calling this a buy. This is just my personal opinion and not considered advice. Do your own due diligence. I think in 5 years the stock once again trades…
When the Well Opens, Bring Buckets Some days I think I might just be king of idiotic analogies. But hey, so long as they still work to get the point across—why not just go with them? If you have followed me at all, of course for some time I have said that I was making some major shifts to my stock positioning, and I was doing it because I felt like a change was coming. You can never time these things and nothing is ever certain of course. But if you have been doing something…
I guess, while the link to my article below relates to the current bear market in the stock market we entered into yesterday here in the U.S., the principle certainly could also apply to the crypto markets which have been in a bear market for a while already now. Either way, I hope it is an enjoyable read if you find time to have a peek and of course I always look forward to hearing your comments. https://read.cash/@Porwest/when-the-well-opens-bring-buckets-593a6be0
I Finally Have the Covid Most of the time we say "third time's a charm" or "three strikes, you're out." When it comes to Covid, over the course of this thing, I have been directly exposed to it no less than six times. For a while I was becoming more and more convinced that I was probably just somehow immune to it. I mean, I never got vaccinated and continue to have no intention to do so. I always felt there was a relationship to Covid and vitamin D deficiency and continue to…
Well, it looks like it was simply my turn. After 6 direct exposures to Covid and no vaccine, it finally caught up to me. Tested positive on Wednesday night and have an interesting week in front of me on top of everything else. https://read.cash/@Porwest/i-finally-have-the-covid-41d4e153
Investing In Stocks Has Nothing to do With Stocks When it comes to investing in the stock market there are a lot of reasons why people get it wrong and never quite find themselves investing successfully. One *key* reason, though, is that when people are investing in the stock market they are investing in a stock. You heard me correctly here. I made no misstep. When you invest in the stock market the last thing you want to consider is the stock itself. Don't get me wrong. The…
When you publish an article with a title like, "Investing In Stocks Has Nothing to do With Stocks," it almost begs to be read doesn't it? I mean, isn't this akin to defying the laws of gravity? WHAT? How can this be possible. But please do give it a read and hear me out. I am quite serious when I make the suggestion that if you are investing in the "stock market" and buying "stocks" and expecting to get rich... It won't happen. The stock market is simply the means by which…
When the dot com era was afoot, top money people and super rich were saying, "This is not real. You can't have value if you don't produce something." All the dot commers laughed and said, "You are wrong." The top money people and super rich turned out to be right. Now with crypto the top money people and super rich are saying, "Crypto is not real. You can't have value if you don't produce anything." Since nothing that has ever produced nothing has never succeeded in…
Covid positive on Wednesday and traveling for business on Tuesday. Ah, this new cycle of life I suppose. But the CDC says I should be fine and not spread anything around. I mean, after all, the experts got everything else right about Covid, why not this too? :::Obvious air of sarcasm here::: But life must go on, bills must still be paid. It is what it is I suppose. At the end of the day my only complaint is that I feel tired and not quite up to travel. Maybe once I get on…
Never consider that anything is a guarantee. With the falling crypto markets and Marc having vocalized significant pullback from BCH interest as well as having said he is very disappointed with read and noise results, slow adoption of BCH etc... We cannot find ourselves surprised if the pending tips situation is not a glitch, but a notice.
My aim is not to be a gloom and doomer and I may be way off base in my thinking. But I am also one who observes, has been down similar roads in the past, and ONLY advises caution. We are still receiving "free tips." The "pending tips" are still being accounted for, accumulated, and "paid out," at least to our pending accounts. BUT, we may simply be operating on an algorithm that is still working, but funding that has stopped. Until the pending tips situation is resolved,…
One Myth About "Store of Value" Some people call them "safe havens." Others call them "hedges." But mostly people refer to these as a "store of value." I bring this up because "store of value" is a term often applied to cryptocurrency these days and is often used to define an advantage that crypto supposedly has over traditional fiat based investments. Most of the time when we are talking about store of value we are of course talking about precious metals. Most notably,…
One question I am curious about is that if noise is the "beacon" of BCH as a viable crypto, and the entire project of noise has failed, what really is the future of BCH and what is the future of crypto as a whole? If noise fails who will promote it? Who will care? How will the message get out? And who will listen? If noise fails, being sort of the "voice" of crypto, doesn't the entire project fail?
Super 8, 301 Jason Way, Davenport Iowa I stay in a lot of hotels since my job requires some travel and even though I can choose to stay in any hotel I choose, I tend to choose the Wyndham Hotels brands simply for their economy—even though my employer reimburses me for all of my hotel costs. This is not to say that I have any complaint nor dissatisfaction, overall, when it comes to Wydham branded hotels. But one thing I have made note of is the inconsistency of "quality" when…
When it comes to the economy and the stock market all I am seeing is opportunity. When it is ugly that's when you buy. You buy good, solid companies and you hold, you sit out the paper losses and keep on. In the end you walk away with more money than you ever could have dreamed of.
Let me start off by saying I was glad to be wrong about the end of noise during this most recent payment glitch. But let me also say that it would behoove the admin to be more proactive about communicating with users, especially considering that it is obvious that admin was online during that time and had to be aware of the pending tips dilemma. What lack of communication leads to is tons of speculation and negative posts—of which even I am guilty of. THAT'S what outsiders…
Be careful. I lost $60.00 trying to send money from read.cash to my Coinbase account. When I clicked on "receive" in Coinbase, it gave me an address to send the money to. When I put that address into read.cash to send the money it said it was not a proper address and sent me to cashaddr.org and gave me a "conversion" address. I sent it to that address but the money never made it to my Coinbase account. The money is gone. I have no idea where it went. Either read.cash is up…
Went for a Memorial weekend getaway to the Kansas City area for some gambling and to celebrate my wife and my 15th wedding anniversary. Brought mom along with us since it is always fun for us and her. Stayed at a hotel that was converted from an old high school in Leavenworth called Local which is part of the Wydham Trademark brand hotels. Didn't do too bad. I came out ahead over $400. Perhaps the highlight was Sunday night when we got back from Harrah's and mom tripped over…
