Tunes in the Streets

She ran the moment the clock showed 6:30pm. She was supposed to be in the River Plaza by that time but the nine to six calls for an extended wrap-up meeting. Sometimes it happens when you have something planned for the night, the nine to six mocks you and says, "You got plans after work? Oh, no you don't!" So that happened. The River Plaza would have been a five-minute ride from her office building but because she came out of the building right when everyone else in the other buildings was going out and racing to get their rides home, she was doubtful she can get a ride. Well she can if she pushes everyone.

Without much thinking she ran the 1.5 kilometer distance from where she is to where she has to be. It is pretty much half of her mileage during her jogging days so it was supposed to be easy. But maybe not if you have your laptop bag and your camera with you.

She was out of breath when she reached the River Plaza. She was there the other night and she was able to talk to one of the musician buskers who agreed to let her in on their story because she wants to do a little write up on them. Thankfully, he agreed.

guitar busker

She arrived just in time when he was about to play his first song. She was aiming to cover hopefully their setup, but she missed it. She will just make up for the shots during their pack up instead. She quickly turned her camera on to take videos.

As most days or nights, the buskers will start with no audience and then middle of their playing, the audience builds up. He starts playing "La Vie En Rose" and singing to it as well.

You best be visiting these lovelies :) They have wonderful stories!

On the second verse, she was surprised to hear a saxophone play along. She looked around to spot where the sax was coming from and took a shot. The mix of both instruments fill the air and everyone who were supposed to be busy slow down with their gaits and turn around to the direction of the music.

busker on sax

They did a second round of the same song. After that they proceeded with "Let's take on the world". The music played on with a few cheerers in the crowd now.

Later on the guitarist asked the audience for some requests and they did well - both the sax and the guitar. Then they later topped the night with a Michael Jackson's Billy Jean and it was a rave!

She did get a lot of shots that night. From the smiling crowd to the musicians and others dancing to the tune or singing with them. It was a moment of fun. She did get her stories from the musicians as well - what made them decide to become street musicians, including some sensitive topic like if it is the only thing they do for living, when did they decide they wanted to do it, etcetera.

It was a heartwarming night just because someone had it in them to make the world smile through music. They may not have enough coins to bring home with them but knowing that they have made some people's night lighter through the show, they are feeling super with it.

...Or so I imagine. I am yet to really have a chance to talk to at least one. I always love seeing buskers. What's their story? What made them decide to be?

They really play good with just their instrument and their other thing-a-ma-jigs (repeaters, midis, etcetera). They put in a better version of the pop songs they play. They have better rendition sometimes.

Some even play their local instruments (I think) that I have no idea what it's called.

I wonder what it's like to see or be part of Fête de la Musique.

Some facts I have learned so far is that some cities do not just allow musicians they have to have permits. That surprised me. Hahaha. I thought they can just pull out their instruments and start playing and belting out whichever songs. That they also have groups.

Anyways, I just happened to browse through my photos and piled these up. It would be nice to come up with some story of some sort one of these days.

So, do you like seeing street performers? Not confined to musicians though. In some areas I see the robot-statue, mimers, etcetera.

Good evening dear read-itizens! Monday is ending .. yey! That is one day down and four more days to go before the week to the end! How is your Monday?

We see buskers a lot every time Session Road is closed to vehicles. Along with stalls there, there will be musicians scattered the whole stretch of the road. It is fun! I was just thinking about doing an interview with these or street vendors and post it here :D

Hello, before the beginning of the pandemic I used to see in a shopping mall some guys playing robot statues. There are no musicians or musicians who play musical instruments in my city.

I love to watch buskers play their instruments too. My preference gravitates towards those who have unique thing-a-ma-jigs like this one - https://youtu.be/FqJdzYY_Fas. This is just one such example.

It is amazing to see buskers and hear them sing their own renditions. Encountering and listening to some also made me wonder what made them decide to do that, maybe they just want to share their music with passers-by :)

I love to see musicians or performers on the streets too. When I am walking alone and then I saw some musician it makes me happy just by hearing and listening to what they perform. Before the Covid comes up, there's a lot that too in our plaza. But there's no one now. And for me " La Vie En Rose" is such a really really great song.

I have not come across street musicians that often but here in India, we used to have Snake trainers as steet performers. Like, the play the flute for which the snake will dance appropriate to the music, I always found it fascinating. It was so good reading ur post and made me remember my childhood days.

unfortunately, as the modern life started to unfold in even rural villages, sadly, the street performers has become more like extinct these days, It's near to impossible to catch even a glimpse of that amazing ness these days. How sad is it? as technology grows, we have been becoming distant from our normal lives. Thank you for the generosity, greatly appreciate it:)

I've never had the chance to see a street performance, as an indoor person my life is really limited to so many things and I don't have the fun opportunity that every other owrson around me has. I think it's time i changed my lifestyle so i can have more fun.
