Be Effective, III.
I shared the first and second parts of this title yesterday and for those who missed it, kindly read them here:
Be Effective.
Be Effective, II.
It's a continuation and it's easier to understand based on the title. I have been explaining the importance of setting goals, staying encouraged and stepping outside our comfort zone. We need to set the kind of goals that would make us effective because what's the point in setting a goal without a difference? We need to stay motivated in life and that's how to grow.
4 Ability To Increase Beyond Your Former Limit:
I said it earlier that today’s achievement is tomorrow’s mediocrity. Once you settle for what you have achieved before now, you will soon be relegated because most people seek to push themselves harder and better. With goals, you make it progressive. Some might decide to increase the savings they make in a month. Assuming you decided to start saving every month, make it realistic and attainable. You have to push yourself and do it from time to time. Once you have gotten comfortable with a particular level, seek for ways to set new goals and it has to be better than the previous goal.
5 Undue Influence Of Others:
When you set goals, you have this sense of direction and a mind with the future in mind. Setting goals keep you glued and protects you from undue influence of others. Imagine having an examination and someone is asking you to follow him or her to a party or go on a date? When you have a focus on what you want to achieve, you naturally filter the unnecessary and decision making becomes easier for you without any sense of guilt.
Imagine trying to save certain amount for the month and while trying to stick to that, a friend of yours comes around and tried luring you into unnecessary spending by dragging you to a club or an outing that takes more from you that what it adds, you will and should gladly say no and it becomes easier when you know you have no extra to waste. It helps you cut your coat according to your size. A lot of people try to fix their routine into yours, don't allow them.
6 Look Into The Future:
Setting of goals will help you to take a look into the future. You cannot feature in a future that you cannot picture. With goals in mind, you already have a desired target in mind about what and who you want to be in life, so anything that is dragging you away from that path you will learn how to stay away from it naturally.
7 Sense Of Fulfilment:
There is one thing about achievement; once you have attained a certain height, you have this sense of fulfilment and excitement, and which is why many people settle on a particular achievement. There is no denying the self confidence that comes with achieving a particular task or goal; it fuels you to know that there is nothing you can’t achieve. It's always tricky and a comfort zone, so try not to settle there...
8 To Create Targets:
Setting goals enables us to set targets. Banks have goals too and this is why they set targets for their staff members so they can meet up with the organizational goals. Setting of goals helps in creating targets to which you can extend and expend your energy. You can't set targets without a clear goal in mind. There must be something you are aiming towards. You never really know how far you can go until you set your goals.
Principles Of Goal Setting:
1 Time Bound:
When setting a goal, always have the timing in mind. We have four categories to this:
A. Life Goal:
Life goals are the goals that take up to 10 years to 25 years to achieve. They are called major goals. They take longer to actualize and they are long term goals. They are the goals that take a sizeable portion of your life to achieve and we should all have this long term goal in mind.
B. Medium Term Goal:
These are the kind of goals that take up to 5 years to 10 years to achieve. They are not short term goal, neither are they long term goals.
C. Short Term Goal:
They are called mini goals. They are the kind of goals that ranges from 1 year to 5 years.
D. Here And Now Goals:
These are the goals that can be broken down into daily, weekly, monthly and even quarterly goals. They are usually less than a year and maximum of a year.
2 Set Goals For Every Area Of Your Life:
For every area of your life, you need to set goals, ranging from your finance, education and even reading pattern. Any area of your life that you don’t set goals for will always remain underdeveloped. Pick an aspect of your life that is not up to what you want and bring it up to speed. Never forget that you need to constantly review your life and set goals for every area of your life that's why we reflect...
