Good evening read- friends! How's your day? The rain has stop pouring here in our area but I can still feel the coldness of the air.
I was fast asleep last night and woke up at half- past nine to the news that our barangay was badly affected by Typhoon Jolina. My friends on Facebook were posting photos of the typhoon's aftermath.
I was worried about my family since we live by the river. Though there is a dike that separates the houses from the river and over the years I can't remember when was the last time our house was filled by mud and water.
My brother wasn't online so I assumed that the water really made its way inside our house .True enough, he wasn't online because he spend the entire morning cleaning our house which floor is filled with mud and water.
This was the level where the water reached. But my family didn't vacate the house. I'm not surprised. When we were young, when there is a strong typhoon forecasted, my grandma would fetch me and my sister and bring us to her home to keep us safe. My parents would always stay.
The last time our house was filled with flood water was when I was a kid. I'm twenty- two years old now and it only took a signal no. 1 typhoon to have the same scenario again.
Good thing, everyone was fine and even managed to sleep when the rain stopped pouring. I was worried about my niece and I wondered what would be her reaction seeing a brown swimming pool but I was relieved that she slept soundly.
Well, I just reconnected with my family this very moment and as of writing, I learned that they were just sleeping the whole time. It was 12:00 a.m. when my mother got up from bed to prepare milk for my niece when she felt that the flood water is almost in the same level as her knee.
My brother too was still awake scrolling at his facebook feed the whole time but he didn't notice that there was water below his bed. Ohh noo!!
The floodwater has made its way to our house almost reaching knee level but my family is still sound asleep. So chill. They assume it is just a heavy rain.
Our neighbor was busy carrying their refrigerator too placing it in a more elevated space. My friend's old man was even surprised that my parents took too long to notice that the flood water has already made its way inside our house.
On the other part of our barangay and the neighboring barangay you could see a lot of damages.
As you can see the darker color of the dike indicates that this is the level where the flood water reached last night.
Another house by the river. Another family unprepared.
This chicken coop was not exempted too. Chickens were washed by the flood.
This house was not even finished yet but the floodwater already washed and ruined parts of it.
This is the recently finished Flood Control Project in the neighboring barangay which costs 3 million. What can you say?
This road is washed by the flood too and is not passable by any kinds of vehicles. This same barangay is the place where the municipality gets its supply of gravel.
I could still remember dump trucks would pass by our barangay carrying loads of gravel.
The typhoon that hits us was not that strong but it left lots of damages. Not to mention the ponds of tilapia, the cows, pigs and chicken that were also washed by the food water.
Typhoon Yolanda was declared to be the strongest but it didn't left damages like these.
Our barangay didn't experienced strong winds last night only continuous rain from the mountainous part of the neighboring barangay which cause coconut trees to be uprooted which also blocked the original path of the river which then results to the water making its way to the houses.
The typhoon brought damages that people never thought of having. In fact, these very people were not even prepared because they never assumed that the typhoon would go extra mile to damage this far.
Everyone was angry too to the people behind sub-standard projects. Goods will not be easily delivered to the next barangay as of now as the road is still not passable. Everyone are pointing fingers. One resident said that the road won't remain that way because election is coming. Surely, politicians will make use of this opportunity to make their names known again to the public. Let us see.
Despite the damages, we are still thankful for all the lives are spared especially those of unprepared. God has appointed angels for them to wake up and notice the floodwater and vacate their area.
Hello friends! Good morning! I'm trying to tell you what happened in our place the other night and today but I'm not that good in organizing and choosing the correct words so please bare with me. I did try my best.
Thank you so much everyone! To my sponsors, upvoters, to the people who spent time to read and comment, you made my soul happy! Thank you heaps!

Glad to hear that your family were safe. Judging from the photos I think it was almost knee deep. I think the reason that your parents did not want to vacate before was because they were also worried about the things in your house. And probably they might be thinking that the flood will not increase. But with the talks about climate change, we should never underestimate the typhoons now. Sad. If only people would realize the importance of Mother Nature to us.
