Walking Around Sagada

Our trip to Sagada is a quick one, we were only there for two days and one night. My husband and I stayed at Isabelo's Inn and Cafe at Poblacion, Sagada and it is just close to the Tourism Office and the main town, this made it comfortable for us to stroll around and navigate to wherever we wanted to go. The stay was worth Php 1,158.00 and it was booked online through Agoda.com.

Today, I'd like to share with you the rest of the sites that we have toured while in Sagada. I had shared some of the travels that we went to while in this cold place, you can find them in these blogs:

Sagada Weaving

One of the things that I appreciate as well during travel is finding a souvenir. Oftentimes, I'd bring something for my friends and family such as keychains, ref magnets, and others so, on our second day, after Kiltepan Viewpoint, we just freshened up, had breakfast, free from the hotel, and then got ready to go explore more of Sagada.

The first was towards Sagada Weaving.

I can't remember if there was an entrance fee. I guess it was free as this is a store with actual weavers at the back of the store. We were able to see the actual weaving activities. It was just unfortunate that taking photos and videos of the workers and their work was not allowed. I do hope the owner allows taking videos now because it is a good way of marketing their products especially nowadays where vlogs and video posts are already a trend.

Photo taken before I was asked to stop taking pictures.

Anyway, we watched the weavers do their thing and we were amazed, it was our first time to see these wooden pieces of the machine, if there's such thing as that, making these rolls of cloths. I enjoyed watching them pull and push and these threads from all over the sides just coming together to become a patterned cloth!

Unfortunately, the items are just too expensive. They didn't have anything that we felt friendly to our pockets so we left the place and moved on to the next spot.

Local Market

Just a few walks away from Sagada Weaving, we found fruits, vegetables, and other kinds of items being displayed right in the road. There were also locals just roaming around, asking for the price and buying this produce.

Fresh cauliflowers, broccolis, melons, mangoes, and a lot more fruits and vegetables were just on the road, with only plastics protecting them from the cement! They are very affordable here and so fresh!

I badly want to buy these vegetables as they were cheaper here than in the city but of course, I can't because I might only spoil them. We ended up getting a buko instead which was sold out after a few minutes.

It was still early and yet a lot of people had already flocked here.

Right next to our hotel is also a mini-market but they have more items here like lemon pie, packed coffee beans, tea leaves, local rice, and some smoked meat which I didn't recognize until I asked the seller of it.

Photowalk

Of course, walking around Sagada requires taking photos of everything we could see, the pine trees, the houses, the building around, the hotels, the people, etc.

This is also the reason why we have to bring with us a handy camera which means a small and light one. An action camera such as GoPro is perfect but it has limitations in terms of taking nice pictures. Mirrorless cameras with small lenses would be perfect but we don't have that during that specific travel.

Anyway, these are some of the photos I took while we were walking around. These are unedited pictures, straight from the camera.

Sagada Lemon Pie House

Our check-out time was at eleven in the morning. After walking outside, we headed back to the hotel and checked out but left our bags at the counter. I highly recommend this hotel because of its location and price as well as the accommodating staff. Plus, they have free breakfast for two where the brewed coffee was legit!

We walked towards Sagada Lemon Pie House which is a well-known place here in Sagada for their authentic lemon pie, a delicacy of Sagada. There's a lemon farm here in Sagada which I wished we had visited but it was not season and it takes a lot of effort to go there.

So, we ended up here to try out their lemon pie, we also planned to buy some more for our friends in Cebu.

But unfortunately, when we arrived, they were already sold out. This pie house is a small one and they only bake a certain number of boxes. Most of the time, they are already closed after lunch.

Thankfully, they still have a few slices left which were intended for dining in. I asked the counter staff if I could get a box instead of as I bought six slices and they were so friendly they packed it for me. Then James and I had one slice for each of us and we spent a few minutes enjoying this restaurant.

It has a low table and no chairs, guests can just sit on their lap, use a comfortable pillow and eat, Japanese or Korean style. The restaurant can only accommodate a few heads and I guess they left it that way although there are a lot of tourists because of the town population.

I applaud the owner for keeping it that way, they go for the quality instead of the quantity, that's the reason as well why they are a hit.

Conclusion

Sagada, a small town had made a great name for itself. Thanks to our entertainment industry, it had helped boost their tourism. I am not sure about their situation right now, I don't know if they still allow tourists to get inside the town due to COVID 19.

Although we only stayed here for two days, we already had experienced their culture, explored their tourist spots, tasted their food, and became like locals here. Whenever we are traveling, we don't act as tourists, we want to be like the locals so that we could dive into how it really feels to be living in this area.

I know two days is not enough, I appreciate Sagada's local government unit for keeping their tourism very organized and for providing their people jobs to sustain their daily living.

My husband and I concluded that this place might be overrated but it has its own beauty and we could still consider coming back with Matti in the future, post-pandemic!
