Stop Over at Barili Milk Station for Lunch
Trip to Moalboal via Busay - Balamban - Toledo road continues
Written April 21, 2022
Our journey to Moalboal came to a halt as our growling stomachs asked for food. I knew that there was a restaurant in Barili, we are just around halfway or more toward our destination for that day.
I could still remember how the weather had been so unpredictable. Cebu City had sunny weather while traveling from Toledo to Pinamungahan was cloudy and then it rained too while we were entering the hills of the latter town.
So, we saw the sign and thankfully, there was only sprinkling when we arrived, still we had to bring our umbrellas because the baby has to be protected at all cost.
On this curved road, we pulled over at the side, it was spacious enough for parking the car. This place brought memories. Back when I was still working in the BPO industry, I have friends who were very eager to go on road trips. They were the reason why my husband and I became outgoing, they had influenced us with motorcycles and visiting new places within Cebu.
So we had passed by this milk station quite a few times before when we visited Sayaw Sayaw Beach in the said town as well sa the Mantayupan Falls. They were the same friends who were with us as well when we visited Moalboal on motorcycles. It was a wild ride as it was pouring real hard!
Anyway, the station still looks the same, there were still tables and chairs, perhaps these were new ones. I believe the old were wood, now they changed it to plastic materials.
They now offer rice meals. I remember before we only get to try their milk, ice cream, and some pasalubong items. But I did find out from their page that there are now lunch options, just limited though.
There were no other guests around, we went inside and approached their staff who referred us to their building below. I was surprised and didn't know there are still dining areas and we were advised to just go down and straight towards the house.
There were no signs and we were like going into a forest but we spotted a roofed house so we believed we were on the right path.
And then surprisingly, we found animals, peacocks, some cockatoos too and I can't wait for the rain to stop so we could take photos. The fowls were wet though so they were not very happy.
However, near the counter was a noisy cockatoo and it kept on shouting. I was almost annoyed while we wait for the food to be served.
We ordered sisig, humba, and ngohiong too. And later on, we asked for their famous ice cream and milk.
The food here was very affordable. In fact, it was much more affordable a few months ago. It was obvious because they just cover the old pricing with the new one. They were only worth Php 120 while two ngohiong with rice was just Php 50.
They were all good too especially the ngohiong, a warm ngohiong is always a good treat! Also, the humba was really tasty!
The rain stopped finally before we finished our lunch so we headed to explore the place. There's a wide ground before us, the house by the way is like an ancestral home but they turned it into a restaurant.
But there's another vacation house at the distance and it looked really interesting. This is actually a farm now. And we didn't know that there's a road from the highway going here. I guess we missed it because we were focused on getting to where the sign was located.
We enjoyed taking photos of the place, the birds, there were so many of them actually, there were some peacocks which were caged, some were just left to roam around. They got chickens too, and the cockatoos were all caged and they really are interesting, they even got a pair of Black Palm Cockatoos, they were not moving when we passed by them but they look scary, their eyes were just focused on us while not moving a bit.
There were also birds who were friendly and would fly to the cage's sides next to the road to greet the people around but we have to go already as it was past two in the afternoon and there was no good signal here either.
My husband's daily meeting was at 3:40 PM but he also has a short meeting with his group by 2:30 PM and we were still halfway through to Moalboal.
We hurriedly went back to the car and went our way. Thanks for reading!
