Good morning Noisers, from the mountaintop of Baguio City, Philippines.. Hello, hello, long time no see.. 😁 Oh, I'm sorry it took me so long to come back.. but like 1 of those ungrateful 10, I have come back to thank Noise.app for being my source of inspiration during the pandemic time of overcoming those uncertainties lying ahead about my personal life, family and medical career. And yeah, through it all — as they say — faith truly moves mountains. By the grace of the Almighty God, I made it through one of the toughest battles of my life — conquering the Physician Licensure Examination last March-April 2025, one of the most difficult board exams in the Philippines. Looking back, it still feels surreal. Now, I can finally say it with a full heart — I am a doctor. 👩‍⚕️💖 It honestly sounds too good to be true, but every tear, every sleepless night, and every prayer has led me here. I will always come back to NoiseCash, even if there’s no more BCH, just to share my journey — not for recognition, but to remind others that God’s grace never fails, and that dreams do come true when you hold on with faith. I know the challenges don’t end here. There will still be bumpy and rocky roads ahead. But as they say, the beauty of life isn’t found at the end of the journey — it’s in the journey itself. Hello! Hello! Omg, such a long time... Finally, I'm back in Noise... How are you all doing, Noisepeeps? Long time no see. I hope everyone is doing well despite the recession( on BCH and tïp$). Hehe...😬 Salute to those of you who are still making noise around here! Umm, concerning myself? Whew! Still struggling with my career, while some progress has already begun to give me optimism and put me back on track with my medical career... I'm hoping that the big event, for which I'm now preparing, will arrive soon and be able to overcome. God, willing! And, while on my journey, I've considered coming back here from time to time to unwind... Yeah, there's no place like Noise where you can write your heart out freely and shoo the stress away. It's almost been a year since my last post, since that tragic tragedy with our our pet dog, Brownie... Of course, you couldn't just forget about it, no matter how badly you wanted it to be erased from your memory. Hence, you have no choice except to accept the reality and begin afresh... Hello Noise friends, how are you all? It's been almost a month since I posted here... I don't have much to share every day, but now I just want to release this pain and heaviness in my chest that I feel... It's good there is a platform like Noise where we can vent. My heart aches because we lost our beloved pet, Brownie, and I feel so guilty... She has been ill for a month as a result of my misdiagnosis and poor management of her medication. Last month, I told my son to pour over some flea powder on her fur, then after a day, she seemed to have a hacking cough as if something stuck on her throat, then developed a runny nose accompanied by sneezing. I immediately suspected that these symptoms were perhaps a side effect of the flea powder, so we bathed her to remove any remaining powder on her fur. However, she developed red eyes, periocular edema and itchiness which cause her to rub and scratch her face and eyes. So I thought she might have an allergic reaction to the powder. We then gave her an anti-histamine tablet that I read on Google to be safe for dogs. Afterwards, the sneezing stopped and she became drowsy, a common and harmless side effect of the medication, nonetheless she developed anorexia.  After a few days, Brownie was still not eating, and a neighbor informed me that there was a pest going on around and that some of the dogs in the neighborhood had died unexpectedly. it worried me because our dog was not immunized against the four most common dog diseases, such as distemper and parvo. I read that once an adult dog contracted one of those viruses, there was a 50% mortality, however, a chance of survival is possible as long as the secondary bacterial infection is controlled and supportive therapy is administered. I then gave our dog an antibiotic with Kaolin and Pectin, which are activated charcoals that bind bacteria and toxins out of the body. Brownie then improved, walked and barked more, and began to eat chicken broth and meat. However, after some time, she suddenly became lethargic again, and a neighbor suggested that I try Ivermectin (for human), which made her dog well after taking 1 tab for 3 days. Ivermectin not only kills parasites but also viruses. So I gave our dog 1 tab in the hopes that if she had caught distemper or parvo, it might help eradicate them. She improved over time, but she developed twitching of muscles in her head and jaw, hypotonia in her extremity muscles, and difficulty breathing. I wondered why all those symptoms appeared, so I researched and found out that they could be caused by both flea powder and Ivermectin adverse effect, however they were also seen in distemper syndrome. Whatever the cause, still that was so foolish of me to give her a human dose, I forgot that she was a dog. Worse, I tried my hand at being a doc for an animal. I was so irresponsible ... I had forgotten, having studied med, that human and dog species are very different. I was confident that I could treat a dog better than a vet. May God forgive me for my irresponsibility... for having harmed, not just any other dog, but our own... Unfortunately, on the afternoon of December 16, Brownie suffered a respiratory arrest and gave up. She died in my arms... As I looked outside, with tears in my eyes, it was the golden hour, with sunbeams dazzling around, peering through the window, and tree leaves swaying in the east wind... Looking sadly at our lifeless furry pet, she looked as if she were only fast asleep... so beautiful in her golden coat, all gleaming in the sunlight... After paying our last tribute and asking for her forgiveness, we decided to lay her in a small yard next to our old house, beneath our jackfruit tree. Now there's our beloved Brownie, sleeping peacefully and pain-free with nature all around her.

The moon after the eclipse... gradually returns to its silvery color and form, first crescent, then full. It shimmers against the dark, cloudless night sky... They say that seeing a blood moon brings good luck, but actually, I don't believe in such superstitions. Though witnessing such an astronomical phenomenon is awe-striking and leaves you feeling surreal and full of wonder. The beauty that the moon emits at night gives us inspiration and serves as a positive vibe for all of the tasks we have to complete tomorrow. I woke up yesterday at daybreak to this magnificent view outside our window... The firmament was adorned with lovely mellow shades of various hues. After witnessing the blood moon on the eastern horizon a couple of nights ago, seeing this beauty at dawn, though fleeting (it only lasted a few seconds before it faded), really awed me and gave me good vibes. I hadn't seen any display of colorful morning twilights in a long time, either because I forgot to look outside since I was always rushing or because the sky was really gloomy. It's been raining a lot these past few weeks, so seeing such a beautiful sky was a privileged and it inspired me once more to slow down and look up... to behold the goodness of the Creator... and to reflect on His enduring love and faithfulness. This song comes to mind, "By faith we see the hand of God, in the light of creation's grand design..." Isn't that inspiring? Hi friends, Finally, I'm here in the wonderful new world of the Noise app! Thank you for a kind friend who invited me. I'm overjoyed to be here and to pour my heart out for such a worthy cause. I'd like to use this new post to share you about the Beaver Moon, a full moon that I witnessed a couple of nights ago on November 8. It also occurred during a total lunar eclipse, hence the name "Beaver Blood Moon." We're just lucky that it didn't rain and the sky was clear that night here in this part of the Metro. The moon was so red, glistening against a black, dark sky. It looked terrifying, but I didn't feel quite afraid; instead, I had some kind of happiness and felt surreal thinking that this could be a good sign—a lucky charm for all the aspirations that I had in my heart for the remaining months of this year and the coming new year. Of course, there will be no luck unless it is accompanied by action and faith in the Creator. So, good luck to me. P.S. I saw a rainbow the other day, and I remembered Noise... Though it was a little rainbow under a big nimbostratus cloud, because it was too faraway and seemed to be vanishing when I saw it, I'm still happy to behold it. The clouds looked terrifying, but because of the rainbow, it didn't make me anxious because the bow signifies that the storm has already passed. So it goes in life, beholding such a little beauty makes you happy already for it signifies a glimmer of hope. At the very least, it provides hope. Remember the light of a little candle? It illuminates a big dark room. And the cancer patient who has lost joy and is slowly dying? A smile from the doctor and her reassuring words are enough to give the patient hope, not only for this life but also for how to embrace death with a happy soul. So, I'm sharing this pic with you today as I come back and write my thoughts and heart out here. In my two weeks of absence here, I realized I've missed Noisecash... It's a special day for appreciating the beauty of nature around us, being grateful for life and all of its wonders and complexities, for all that life has to offer us, and sharing the bountiful blessings that we have. Actually, if you think about it, these kinds of gesture is already being performed by fellow Noisers every day, as they post their content here in Noisecash. Most of us post about nature, our daily lives, the things we have, and being grateful. I just realized that Noisecash is really a fantastic platform that has served as a conduit for people to teach and learn about goodness and virtues. I'm really happy that I'm a part of this incredible platform where I can write my heart out sincerely and share beautiful things that have become an inspiration and motivation to me and others to live life to the fullest. On this special day, I'd like to thank Noisecash and everyone else here. Let's continue to be "ambassadors of good will." Life has really been so wonderfully good! This was taken during the cold days of January, when the breeze outside was very cold and so my cat was just soaking up the sunlight that came in through our window. It's summer now, but every now and then it's raining due to some low pressure area forming in the Pacific, so the kitties can't go outside our veranda and bask in the sunshine. The sky is overcast, and there aren't enough sunbeams entering the window either. However, we're hopeful that when the rain stops, the sun will shine again and the kitties will be able to enjoy sunbathing outside. Yeah, life, just like the sky, has both bright and dark moments. These are continuation of my sunrise shots yesterday which are heralding the comeback of a sunny, cheerful summer. Yeah, summertime is warm and beautiful but can also become hazardous to humans and animals alike when the heat rises up above the normal 'heat index,' so it needed the rain to cool down the environment. The summer of our lives, of abundance and fun can be dangerous too at other times... Why? Because, we may tend to lose sight of humility and we become haughty. Hence a little downpour is needed to bring our arrogant heads back down to earth. Sometimes, we need a problem like for example a 'financial' need. This makes us realize that money isn't like water, which flows continuously from a well. You see, the well also runs dry... Of course, we become stressed but this will teach us not to become spendthrifts and believing that we will never run out of money! Someday, it will.... As a result, we must take good care of our source of income. Stay humble and be honest. This will free us from the danger of pride, which suffocates our virtues. Do you agree with that? These are some of the photos I took this morning at the crack of dawn. The sun was already rising in the east, with glimmers of warm colors beginning to appear above the horizon. Unlike yesterday, when there was no sign of the sun because the sky was so densely packed with stratocumulus clouds that when you looked up, everything was pale and bleak. Today, from the full blast of sunlight, summer looks has just returned with the display of cerulean shade of the sky and lovely hues everywhere. Even the birds, gleefully gliding with the summer morning breeze, basking in the sunshine. We're back to savor again the tropical sunbeams that dries our laundry and warms our rheumatic muscles from yesterday's cold. However, we will be concerned again when the scorching rays become entangled with moisture and peak and shoot up, causing heat-related health issues. You see, the sultry weather could potentially cause heat exhaustion and I heard people suffered from heat stroke already. So, it's important to watch the 'heat index' if it gets high. How would you know and do that? This would be another topic again, of course. Haha! Yay, a lot of things to talk about, but the space is limited... Is there any limit here In Noise? This was our sky yesterday, overcast and rainy. It had been raining all day, so the weather was cold at 24°C, which we enjoyed because it relieved us of the heat we'd been experiencing during this dry 'hot' season or as we colloquially termed as 'summer.' You see, even if it is the 'dry' season, and not yet the rainy or 'wet' season, we still get rain every now and then due to the effect of the LPA or low pressure area. The Philippines is vulnerable to typhoons due to its proximity (slightly above the equator) to the Pacific ocean facing it eastward. And it is in the warm waters of the ocean where these storms are brewing then being carried by the wind as it hurtles towards the archipelago. Actually, the country is hit by about 20 typhoons per year, which occur during both the dry and wet seasons. I read in the news yesterday that there was an LPA somewhere in Mindanao. So this would have brought the scattered rains and thunderstorms across the country, including here in the NCR or National capital region. So, even if it is the dry 'hot' season, it isn't a guarantee that we will not experience rains and typhoons because of our geographical location. Keep in mind that we are also part of the 'Pacific ring of fire,' which is why we are prone to earthquakes. But, of course, this is a different topic... Yay! Back to the 'summer rains'... You see, people were ecstatic about the cold weather yesterday, despite the gloomy dark skies, especially those without air conditioning, like us. The cold temperature has been a great relief from the summer heat that we have been experiencing over the last few weeks, as the heat, particularly from noon until afternoon, had become so unbearably stressful already. ©Mitochondria Original content

The third of April is 'Find a Rainbow Day... 'So, gotta catch up! However, what I've found in my gallery was a picture of a black and white rainbow that I edited sometime ago. I've been looking for the original colored one but I couldn't find it anymore. That was actually a beautiful double rainbow overhead Bali Oasis during the rainy seasons that I snapped a few years ago by our apartment's window in the 'shoe capital' of the Philippines. I'm just wondering if how does a rainbow after the rain looks like when it has no colors such as this picture? Of course, it's no longer a rainbow because it has become all plain black and white or gray... But, hey wait, look, it's shiny...! Yeah, It's gleaming...! It could be perhaps due to the reflection of the sunlight. So, it means that if we don't see anymore rainbows or colors in our lives, we shouldn't feel blue and dejected... Why? Because, life hasn't yet completely darkened, there's still that glimmer of light and color shining through, albeit flickering faintly but at least it is giving us hope that somehow, sometime it will eventually restore the full colors and brilliant luster of our lives. For a while, just embrace the serenity and placidity of the moment and take some time to rest. Use it for meditation, for recharging energies... I've just discovered this beautiful sunset on one of my afternoon walks around the neighborhood last year. We've just moved into this new place in the biggest barangay in the Philippines and so needed to roam around to get acquainted and be familiarized with our surroundings. The sunset here was really stunningly golden..! But I was a bit disappointed because I couldn't see it clearly due to the obstructions infront of me. You see, there were electric cables and wires dangling everywhere. I wasn't able to get a good shot either. However, I've attempted to counteract these impediments to my view by blocking the negativity that arose within my mind so that I could at least enjoy the beauty of the sundown. I took several deep breaths and dreamily imagined myself atop a hill overlooking a blue ocean with a clear wide view of the dazzling sky with the sun sinking below the horizon beaming radiantly! Yay, it somehow worked... Then I was just being grateful that, despite the urbanization of this hilly place, natural wonders of God's creation still existed to fascinate us everyday. That no matter what man does to the environment, cutting down trees, dumping garbage into rivers, and building houses all over the place that become overcrowded... Nature's true beauty cannot be concealed. Just like in real life, goodness always prevails and triumphs over evil. One night, we had a visitor... It looked like a cockroach. But, I guessed, it looked more like a beetle, or maybe a species of it. So, I decided to take a snap of it. My tablet had no macroshot so I just took a picture of it the standard manner but from the best angle and lighting that my camera could provide. After it, I almost swatted the beetle... but I just thought it was harmless so I just gotta let it fly out the window and there the poor cutie guy landed on the grasses...! I just hoped, it hadn't been found by those frogs that appeared during night time from the canals and ate it. I was reminded of a favorite poem we memorized in school as kids that taught us to be kind to all living things... I still remember it word for word to this day. March 30 is #NationalDoctorsDay! ⚚⚕ https://nationaldaycalendar.com/national-doctors-day-march-30/ In this day during the year 2020... It was the most unforgettable 'Doctor's Day' entire the world! Most of our doctors had celebrated this important event in the frontlines while combating the Corona virus pandemic... At.that time, there was still no cure💊 nor a vaccine💉developed against the contagion but they had already selflessly given all the supportive care they could offer to those who had contracted the deadly COVID and fallen ill... These Doctors are our modern day heroes! They deserved our respect and our support... May the Lord God Almighty continue to bless them more with an enduring love & a strong spirit, mind & body... May our frontliners be given the utmost help with their needs especially those personal protective 'shields', so with endurance, stamina, energy &... isotopes.. 💊 (Marvel's Avengers fan here!)😆 Hehe.. este er, i mean hope, faith & love... In March 26, 2020 (exactly 2 weeks after the WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic)... In the Philippines, in 5 COVID mortality, one was a doctor... that was 5:1 ratio. In Italy with almost 8,000 mortality, 20 were doctors, that was 400:1 ratio.. 😏 tsk.. tsk... So heartbreaking, because of the lack of PPEs or personal protective equipments. Here is a poem that I've made in March 2020 as a tribute to our fallen healers so we all may live... Bearing the staff of healing ⚕ as descendants of Aesculapsius... Yet not as invincible as the gods, But just mere mortal men, vulnerable to the forces of nature... Still courageously fought till the end, fulfilling the pledge and duty as true sons & daughters of Hippocrates... This was my view of the Sunrise in the eastern sky outside our window earlier this morning... Beautiful blue sky with golden sunbeams gleaming radiantly! And a flock of birds gleefully hovering above the housetops... Their sweet melodious chirpings were the only sound that resounded in the stillness of the sleeping world below. It looks like the sun was ablaze but actually this morning was unusually cool unlike the previous days. And the crepuscular rays of the sun was not glaring but dazzled a luminous golden glow. I was wondering though, as to why there weren't barkings of the dogs and no car noises. Everyone seemed to be still in REM sleep and dreamily enjoying their unicorn cruises on slumberland. The blueness of the firmament was quite soothing to the eyes and purging to the soul as if removing all the impurities of doubts and fears that were lurking inside of me. Likewise, the golden sun beams were sending me positive vibes filled with optimism and an indomitable spirit as I looked forward to a promising and bountiful future. The flexibility and softness of the clouds sailing lazily with gaiety taught me calmness of spirit... Yeah, we must be adaptable to every circumstance be it rainy, sunny or windy. As waiting and patience were synonymous in every aspect, we must learn to be calm and accept things with a grateful heart...💙 ©Mitochondria #originalcontent

My kind of 💙Blue Tuesday... But not the 'blue' that most people usually thinks of... as when you're feelng down, gloomy or sad. Of course, absolutely not, but for me, it's the other way around...!😎 Yeah, promise... I guessed, I still haven't gotten over 'Color Month' yet, especially 'Fragrance Day' because of Victoria's Secret... Nope, I'm not an endorser of Victoria's! But it just so happened that this tote bag which my sister bought me as a gift had a VS print on it. Although this is only class A and not an original brand, I'm overjoyed because I no longer have to worry about carrying my belongings or fitting them into my small backpack. I thanked my sister for being thoughtful enough to know what I really needed. We're admonished not to complain, right? And remember to be grateful at all times so that blessings will continue to pour in... And no matter how big or small they are, we must be thankful! I'm in love with this bag... not just because it's blue, which is one of my favorite colors. But even more so because it's bulky! It's large enough to store and transport a lot of items, especially my books and reviewers! That is fantastic! And so, it plays a significant role in my attack on studying... You see, there are times when I need to get out of the house and study at a nearby library or coffee shop such as Starbucks, and even at a McDonald's outlet. And this large, handy bag is the perfect carrier for me. Yeah, I was often spotted at the 'golden arches' even when I was still a med student because I needed to have a 'pasalubong' (presents) for my little sons and those Happy Meals were just readily available to buy. Catching up on 'Color Month'... still got lots of colors to share! Whew... When you're dreaming of the Golden Arches... you become all yellow!💛 Aww, what does this mean? Of course not jaundice... which is one of the most popular color in medicine aside from bloody red! I didn't have liver problems though... Hehe! Nor it means the yellow code used in hospitals for an impending emergency or external disaster. I, on the other hand, was not a missing person...😁 Neither the yellow in the triage for emergency medical response, which indicates priority number two (for moderate to serious injury or illness)... However, I was not sick nor injured... But got the universal feeling which all of the med people have after a 24 hours shift... "Hunger pangs attack!!" Ouch! Being so groggy, hungry & tired, all at the same time from my duty status the whole night, all I ever wanted to do first was... not to go home and sleep... but, to go and eat at McDonald's!!😆 Yeah, absolutely! In honor of "National Physicians Week," here are some memorable moments of me in a Mcdo outlet a couple of years ago... (I'm not endorsing Mcdo... But believe it or not, even the name of the street in Marikina City was McDonald's Avenue!) It was only a block away from the hospital where I was doing my internship, so I had to stop by there first and eat breakfast before heading home. Since off-duty Interns no longer receive free meals from the hospital's cafeteria, dropping by at Mcdo had become a habit for me every morning after my shift. It was simply relaxing to sit and hang out there for a while, sipping my hot chocolate drink and munching on my hot cake, McMuffin sausage and hash brown.😋 Yumyum! Each bite felt very soothing, as if the night's hard work had finally paid off... Yay, 'ang babaw lang talaga ang kaligayahan' (happiness was really shallow), but it had made my day! I'm still not done with the 'Color Therapy Month'... And, since it's still 'Meteorological Month', I'd like to share with you some 'sunset' pics which I snapped from my roof deck afternoon musings two years ago. Have you ever seen green skies?💚 We've got some of these sky scenes during the rainy season in this part of the world. Before a thunderstorm starts... a green sky is formed because of the combination of the golden-reddish light from the sun low in the horizon and a natural bluing effect of the air. The second reason is that storm clouds with blue waters are illuminated by the golden light of a low sun, producing the color green. Well, the exact cause is entirely unknown, but aren't they spectacular like the northern lights of the Aurora borealis? And yeah, there are green skies... Since it is still 'Women's History Month' and the start of the 'National Physicians Week,' which runs from March 25 to 31... I just wanted to share this pic with you... One of my favorite selfies during my clerkship in Pediatrics at a private hospital in Manila was with a cute and cuddly newborn baby in the NICU and nursery unit.👶 You see, aside from sunsets,🌄 blue skies,☁️ flowers,🌻 kitties,🐈 and moonlights🌜... the birth of a human being is without a doubt one of the most beautiful things in the world!!😍 And though there are many roles that a woman is assigned in society, giving birth is one of the most core aspects of being a woman. Did you know that there was a meteorological day? Yeah, there is, and it is celebrated on March 23... So, catching up, I hope, I'm not yet too late to wish you all a Happy 'World Meteorological Day!'🌌 The first weather organization was called the 'International Meteorological Association' which was founded in 1873. But the name was changed to 'World Meteorological Organization' on March 23, 1950. And the first celebration was observed 11 years later on March 23,1961. And 56 years later in 2017, they added a theme in the commemoration of the event called, 'Understanding Clouds'.☁️ Wow, clouds, one of my favorite sky phenomena!😍 There's no explanation for why they chose that as their theme. I just figured out that it maybe because since the clouds are the most visible things in the sky and always changing, hence it was the focus of their study. You see, the sun rises and sets at the same time every day, as do the moon with the same phases every month... The earth rotates around the stationary sun, and the moon revolves around the earth. But what is changing and has a different course everyday are the clouds which are distributed on three levels within the Earth's firmament.☁️ They act as a curtain or umbrella for the sun's light... And they take the form of canvasses on which the colors of the sunlight's palette are painted. We see beautiful and stunning sunsets and sunrises because of them. Their formations are also a sight to behold, adorning the sky like gleaming jewels. They're also the ones who give the moon a lovely glow, much like a veiled bride. However, they do not only make the sky resplendent but they can also become gloomy and ferocious making the sky threatening... Although these cloud characteristics are influenced by important interconnected factors such as humidity, barometric pressure or air, gravity, and altitude, all of this contributes to the weather and climate that we have, which is often observed on the clouds.🌀 There are a lot of interesting and fascinating facts to learn about clouds. And so the study on these clouds that the Meteorological agency do is very important. It helps us plan our daily activities in accordance with the weather and warns us of impending disasters.☔ We'll be able to tell when it rains or if there's a thunderstorm by simply checking the weather forecast.⛈️ We also know when a typhoon or tornado is on its way. Isn't it incredible that we already know what the weather will be like...?😃 While we marvel at these clouds, it's also fascinating to know Who has the power over these heavenly bodies.... Today is 'National Puppy Day', March 23rd...🐕 This is absolutely a paw-some day to celebrate with our adorable little four-legged furr-friends! It was created by animal advocate and pet lifestyle expert, Colleen Paige in 2006 to raise public awareness about stray or abandoned puppies and encourage people to adopt them. She is also the founder of 'National Dog Day' and 'National Cat Day.' https://nationaltoday.com/national-puppy-day/ I just wanted to share this photo of me and this adorable 'mestiza' (mixed breed) puppy, Brownie, from a year ago... With her thick brown coat and beautiful features, big eyes, and chubby cheeks, she indeed looked like a pure bred! But, actually at that time we didn't know yet what kind of dog she was because 'Lola,' the old lady who sold baby Brownie to us, didn't know what kind of breed her dogs were. So we assumed Brownie was an Aspin or 'Asong Pinoy' (Filipino dog), but as she grew older, she exhibited more the characteristics of a Gollie, a mixed breed that was a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Collie. She had been very friendly and gentle with the cats, never biting them. She'd always been playful and energetic, running around the house. And as she grew older, her coat thickened and shed heavily. Brownie didn't like being alone, she enjoyed to be in the company of others. She was a picky eater too, with chicken meat being her favorite. She was also very smart as a puppy... when she'd been being naughty and we wanted her to calm down, we'd just say 'tali' (tie her) and she'd then behave. When we'd arrived home from outside, she would greet us with joy, jumping and barking and wanting to hug everyone. Brownie had been such a sweet little puppy, even now that she is a year older. On my last week of rotation at the Department of Surgery in the ER during internship, I had this rare encounter... I stumbled on this 'lotion' inside a crowded drawer full of surgical needles and sutures. Imagine a 'cosmetic product' among surgical tools? I just wondered why it was there and who put it?🤔 Especially that it wasn't just any lotion, it was a Victoria's Secret brand and even the name in big bold letters was eye catching, 'Endless Love'... Wow! I opened it and sniffed the content, umm... That was the first reaction when you see a 'cosmetic' right? It smelled so 'heavenly!' So I looked it up to see what scent it was and I was surprised to see 'Ylang-ylang' written on it. Incredible, Victoria's Secret used Ylang-ylang on their cosmetics!😲 You see, this is a native flower to the Philippines which has a distinctive sweet fragrance. It's actually made into a perfume and very popular locally that it is called the "Queen of Perfumes." No wonder, Victoria's Secret had sought after it... Of course, I didn't apply it to my skin without first asking who owned it, that would be impolite. So I asked who owned it, and it turned out to be one of the ROD 'Resident On Duty' surgeons. She was a female, so it was no surprise that she had a lotion, but why even when she was on duty...? Well, I just thought that since our hands were frequently dry as a result of constant washing, she may have thought lotions would soften them... And why hadn't she just used a moisturizer? We all know that most moisturizers had no scent and since most of the time we were "amoy hospital" (smelled of hospital) literally...😷 So perhaps, our ROD thought her fragrant lotion would be a better option... And we were thankful because she let her interns used it as well. Our group then smelled amazing! The scent of Ylang-ylang had drifted and wafted through the air, that the other doctors and patients would even turned their noses up when they passed our table. Yeah, this had been an unforgettable experience for me. The fragrant scent left an imprint on my mind...It was redolent with my internship in Surgery... You see, the receptor cells at the lining epithelium of the nasal cavity are true neurons and are the only neurons in the body that replace themselves.👃This is a 'must know' board question... This could explain why our sense of smell is so strong and frequently associated with our emotions and memories.🧠 What do you think Noisemates? This was my view of the full moon on its third journey across the night sky... It was strikingly brilliant and vibrantly yellow, in stark contrast to the previous night's peak, which glowed with a dull reddish hue. This full moon in March is known as the 'Worm Moon'...🐛 Literally... Eww...!😝😁 The native American Indians named it as such after the worms that emerged from their hiding places when the snow melted and the soil warmed in preparation for spring. This is the last full moon of the winter heralding the arrival of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. 🌷🌻 Actually, the full moon in March is known by a variety of names... This is the only full moon that has multiple names... Why? because of the various changes in events that occur during the transition from the cold winter season to the warm springtime.☘️🌥️ The return of the animals from their long winter hibernation or quarantine gave rise to the names 'Eagle Moon,'🦅 'Goose Moon,'🦢 and 'Crow Moon.'🐦 It is also called the 'Sugar Moon,'🍁because this is the time when the bark of the maple tree begins to emit syrup which flows freely. Other names include the 'Wind Strong Moon,' which was named after the windy days at this time of spring and the 'Sore Eyes Moon,' due to the glaring and blinding rays of the moonlight reflected in the melting snow.❄️ And since it usually occurs during the 'holy week,' it is also known as the 'Lenten Moon.' Isn't it amazing how many names there are? And, in comparison to the January 'Wolf Moon' and February 'Snow Moon,' which were silvery white with softer gleams... This March 'Worm Moon' was golden yellow with a brighter beam!🌕 This clearly demonstrates the beginning of the season's warming up! Gotta catch up for 'World Sleep Day...' The 18th day of March is National Sleep Day! This is a holiday that has been observed since 2008 and is celebrated all over the world. It was founded by the World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM) to raise awareness about the importance of sleep and rest, as well as to support scientific researches on sleep health issues. So, what about sleep, that is so important? Isn't this just a common activity that both humans and animals do everynight and day since time immemorial? After a tiring day, it is just normal to rest and sleep... Yeah, it is a normal physiologic process just like eating. But, there are more than the closing of the eyes and cuddling up in bed that we aren't aware of. There are lots of events happening at the cellular level ranging from the neurotransmitters of the brain to the rest of the body. Yay!🙄 We can't understand all of these information, unless you're studying for the boards and need to know all those medical jargons! 😬🤣 Hehe! It is true what the wisest man on earth, King Solomon, said in Ecclesiastes 12:12 (KJV) "And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh." However, isn't it fantastic to know a little bit of these vast scientific marvels that they study about sleep? Ok let's dig in to the basics... Sleep has four stages. The first three stages are known as NREM or Non-Rapid Eye Movement. This is usually dreamless or where unremembered dreams reside. However, the 3rd stage of this NREM is what they call the 'DEEP SLEEP'... which pertains more to the inactivity of the body rather than brain activity. And this is important in order for the body to get rest and repair itself while substantially strengthening the immune system. A person in this stage is difficult to be aroused by any sensory stimuli. The 4th stage is the REM or Rapid Eye Movement where vivid and active dreaming occurs but the muscle tone is reduced throughout the body which is good because it prevents you from acting out your dreams. Can you imagine waking up in the middle of the night and jumping out the window, dreaming you're flying?😬🤣 Oh, my! What a ridiculous disaster... Hehe!😆 Well, there are those who actually walk while sleeping, they have a condition known as somnambulism. But that's another story... This REM actually is sometimes considered a continuation of deep sleep because you are more difficult to wake up in this stage. The active dreaming here restores brain health... which is essential in learning and making or retaining memories. So, those people who dream on their sleep, the experts say, are smarter and more creative.😁 Wow, isn't that amazing? Now, take a power nap and be a dreamer!😴 It's really nice to know all these facts. But the important thing is that we're aware that when we get enough sleep, we wake up feeling good, refreshed, and strong. So c'mon guys, let's join in... With the hot, humid, and steamy weather we've been having lately...🌤️ Summer has definitely arrived! And eating has turned out to be a real challenge...🤤 You simply don't have the appetite anymore for the warm meals that you usually enjoy, except for this cold, sweet, yummylicious 'halo-halo!'🍨 It's a good thing I've stumbled upon a 'halo-halo' stand outside in the neighborhood because I no longer have time to go to a fast food chain like Chowking, Goldilocks or Mang Inasal and buy. These three actually are the city's most well-known food stores for these icy treats. The home-made ones sold on the streets, on the other hand, were just quite as delicious and much less expensive. Each one only costs 25 pesos (US$0.50). And I assure you, it's clean...😬 Haha! Because I've inspected it with my diagnostic eyes!🧐 The lady selling it wore gloves, and the foods were kept cool in an icebox to avoid spoilage from the heat. The ice used was also clean because it was not purchased from ice plants in filthy sacks. They even have their own ice crusher or shaver. Seeing these for myself, at the very least, gave me the confidence as a consumer that what I was buying was safe. Well, I wasn't able to take pics because I was in a hurry and one more for 'delikadeza' sake (proper decorum), it wasn't nice to take pics without first asking a permission... Anyway, for those who are unfamiliar, 'halo-halo' is a popular Filipino cold or frozen dessert that is typically sold during the summer. It is the ultimate summertime treat in the country!🌤️⛱️ It is made up of a variety of colorful fruit ingredients that are layered like a rainbow and then combine to make a healthy and delightful refreshment. Actually, 'halo-halo' is considered to be the unofficial national dessert of the Philippines. Isn't this fantastic?🤩 For the street version of this ice cold treat, they use the traditional ingredients such as slices of boiled banana, camote (sweet potato), langka (jackfruit) and white beans, also boiled sago (tapioca pearls), gulaman (gelatin) and coconut strips. Then covered with crushed or shaved ice, drizzled with evaporated milk, and topped with pinipig (rice crispies), 'ube' jam (purple yam) and a slice of leche plan (creme caramel). Not all of the components are typically found in a 'halo-halo' from food stores because they are replaced with bottled ingredients such as nata de coco, kaong (sugar palm), and so on. They do, however, add one or two scoops of ice cream as toppings, making their 'halo-halo' more special and expensive. Before eating it, you must slowly stir and mix the contents, that is why it is called 'halo-halo' from the Tagalog word 'halu-haloin,' which means to mix up together. So it literally means 'mix-mix.' 😁 To our non-Filipino Noisefriends here, do you have any dessert similar with 'halo-halo?' Or have you already tried eating this?' This is a continuation of my full moon photos last Febuary 19th... After a few minutes, the linear fractus cloud dispersed and a new formation started to shape... Okay, Noisefriends, I'd like you to think once again about what you see in my moon photos...🤔 I'll give you a few seconds to look at my photos of the full moon... Clue, just look at that fractus cloud formation above the moon! What did it look like? For me, I saw a baby angel with small wings and curly hair looking down on the moon. Did you see it too?🤓 It was very vivid! It does resemble a child... As a result, I've dubbed this image as "moon child!" I'm just wondering how this sequence of images from the full moon happened chronologically some few minutes apart. And the image of this little angel lasted about 4 minutes before disintegrating completely. It was utterly fascinating! Hence, I just consider it as another unusual cloud formation. And I praise the Lord for the magnificent display of grandeur that the sky puts on at night to cheer us on.😃 What do you think the meaning of this image is? Do you have any thoughts on it? Before the full moon of March appears, I'd like to share with you all of the photos I took during the February full moon. Here are some photos that I took on February 19th... What image do you see that the moon and nearby clouds have painted on the black canvas of the night sky? For a few seconds, I'll leave it up to your imagination as to what you can see...🤔 Ok time's up! Let's see if we have come up with the same image. You can describe what you saw in the comments section, there are no wrong answers because we all have different perceptions that are influenced in part by our background. For me, with a medical background, I saw a picture of 'fertilization', an ovum and a sperm...🤓 Did you know that there are about 200 million sperm cells competing for one ovum? And the first to arrive at the egg wins and fertilize it. How lucky is the one who got to the ovum first! That's how we are created... And I just read an article about a new study that claims it isn't just any sperm that wins, but it depends on what the egg chooses. It appears to imply that the egg has the final say in deciding which sperm will fertilize it, regardless of how fast or healthy the sperm is. The study discovered that the egg releases a chemical that attracts the sperm towards it. Isn't this amazing?
