What to do during vacation?
As a student, I have been waiting for a long break for a long time. I was able to survive a hellish semester because I kept telling myself this would be over soon.
And, here we are. We survived, and we can now enjoy the vacation we all hoped for. Happy holidays, indeed.
We all need a break—a long break where we do not need to think about our academic work. Yes, a real vacation with no stress is what we deserve.
Now that we’re here, we all have the time to do the things we like but couldn’t do before. We now have time for ourselves.
But, we may have a lot of things we want to do that we cannot even choose what to do first. There’s this slight worry that you may choose the wrong thing and just waste your precious vacation time.
For me, I also have a lot of things to do. But, I do not want to pressure myself into doing something. Here are the things I like to do during my vacation and things you should do too.
Rest.
First and foremost, you should use most of your time to rest. This year has been so tiring and draining. We all deserve a break, a long break even. Yet we only have this short, little holiday break at the end of the year. Nonetheless, we should take this little time we have to recuperate and replenish our drained energy. We need to rest our physical bodies from all the sleepless nights. We need to rest our backs from all the sitting we did from all those online meetings. I make sure to enjoy my holiday break by sleeping enough every day to make up for all those late nights I have survived.
Most especially, we need to care for our health. I use my little vacation to let myself off from the academic pressure and stress that have been piling up over the last year. It is a time to do nothing without feeling guilty. In this precious time, I won’t hold a pen or open my book. I will take my time thinking of happy thoughts I had this year to end it in the nicest way possible. While we rest our backaches, we should hope for a better year next year.
Go out with friends.
Scheduling one day to enjoy a vacation with your friends won’t be too much, won’t it? Let’s make time for our friends and share our stories in real-time and in person. It is also one way to relieve stress and care for our mental health. It was nice to see my friends after a long time and talk about random things that make us comfortable.
Watch and read your favorites.
Yes, it’s time to coop yourself up in your room and binge-watch all those series that you missed over the last year. I am catching up on all of those anime that I stopped watching due to the busy schedule. It feels comfortable to not think of some of your responsibilities and just think of your favorite characters developing into better people, maybe inspiring you even. However, you may have a hard time choosing what to watch first. Do not worry too much. Just pick one randomly and surely you will enjoy it.
These are the only things I do on my vacation. I make my vacation a time to be inside my comfort zone. It may be different for some people, but aren’t we all different?
What’s important is that we spend our vacation the way we want it too. You don’t have to feel pressured if you’re not doing anything productive. It’s okay to do nothing. It is enough that you get enough rest so you can be ready again for all the work you will go back to.
You don’t need to feel pressured when others are doing more than you. What’s important is who you are.

Vacation is necessary so we can have real-time for ourselves. I love staying at home when I take a time off from work.
